- Q:buying my first skateboard.
- the bearings are what make the wheels move on the trucks and it holds the wheels to the trucks .. its the thing inside the wheels and it can be any color like mine are red
- Q:Which one is the better of the two? im looking mostly for speed and for them to be waterproof
- you shouldn't be riding in the water and that will ruin all bearings and make them rust. The Bones are faster but if you are going to ruin 100+ $$$ bearings just get Sector 9 greaseball bearings.
- Q:I have been cleaning my bearing about every two weeks. I have been using plain tap water, and a Q-tip. How often do you clean yours, and what do you use?
- lol, first of all it is good to clean them even if they are sealed, that seal doesn't help that much water gets into everything it'll help keep out the dirt but not moisture. You don't really need to clean them as often as you have been, it's good to lube them that much if you skate a lot but you don't need to clean them everytime. Tap water is a bad choice and so is a q-tip. Use 99% isopropyl alcohol(rubbing alcohol), it'll dry quickly and a can of air(duster) and that is all you'll need.Kerosene or mineral spirits is also a good choice. It's quick an easy. If you have cheaper bearings a quick method of cleaning is all you'll need because they won't last very long anyways, but if you have expecive bearings you'll want to take the shield off and clean them throughly. A can of tri-flow is a good easy quick way to clean them, spray them good wipe them off lube them up and you're good to go. Always lube after a clean, and use a good quality lube, like speed cream or rockin ron's rocket propellant is highly recomened. stay away from wd-40 and other cheaper lubercants they'll attract dust and dirt and make your bearings crap out in a month. I clean mine about once a month but lube them about 3 times a week because I skate a lot. by doing this you'll extend the life of your bearings by 6-12 months longer than normal.

- Q:I have a sector 9 Cosmic 2 board and one of the bearings messed up. i need to buy spare bearings. i can't find longboard bearings while skateboard bearings r easy to find. r they the same? and whats a good place to buy beartings
- the guy above me is talking crap, they have the same kind of bearings, on my friend's longboard he uses bones swiss, that is what i would suggest, you can find them at a skateshop or on the internet.
- Q:im trying to open like a bike shop kinda thing, and i was wondering if like any kind of grease or lube will work for bike bearings and the handlebars.? help?
- To answer your question, here is a basic list of lubes for bikes... 1) Chains and external drivetrain parts, brake levers, shifters- light machine oil (NOT motor oil) or appropriate silicone or parrafin based lube depending on riding conditions; 2) Bearings (roller): if exposed to the elements (like the top of a cable detangler), use silicone based oils or something that is easily washed out and replaced. If protected (like hubs), use white lithium grease. NEVER pack the areas full of grease... once clean, wipe in a thin layer of lube on the cups and cones, then roll each bearing around your fingers to give that a thin coat and install; 3) Sealed bearings- NEVER try to lube a sealed bearing. Most have seals which deteoriate when exposed to foreign lubes or degreasers; 4) Cables- apply a thin layer of white lithium grease on exposed cables. Do NOT lubricate inside housings... most have a teflon or delrin sleeve which will soften and get sticky if exposed to lube. Best option is to use stainless cables and forget lubing the cables altogether; 5) seat post, handlebar stem to steerer- if METAL, use white lithium grease inside the seat tube before installing seat post, or when installing stem in (or on) the fork steerer. If carbon/carbon or carbon/metal use the specially prepared assembly grease. Um, how can you open a bike shop kinda thing without good knowledge of bike repair? Lubricants are a FUNDAMENTAL part of repairs and it scares me a little that you want to work on other peoples bikes and put them at risk without knowing your stuff. I assume you mean the headset when you refer to the handlebars. Another fundamental part of bicycle repair is that you know what the parts are called and how they might differ between bikes. I strongly suggest that you spend some quality time with your bike and maybe some $10 junkers found at yard sales to practice on before you get yourself into trouble.
- Q:and what are they used for?
- the bearings are inside the wheel. depending on the abec rating depends on the speed. two bearings for every wheel and your set.
- Q:if not can you tell me what are some good ones
- If you are talking about roller skate bearings I absolutely love my bones bearings. All of their bearings are great! Kind of pricey but well worth it if you can take care of them. Also Sure-Grip ones are great. I like to go with either 7 or 9 ball bearings in them.
- Q:This is a mid-1970's Schwinn. Obviously, if there is grit or dirt or rust I will clean them. My instinct is to use 3 in 1 oil if I must, then repack everything in good old reliable bicycle grease. But if there is just old grease without anything gritty, do I even need to clean the bearings etc., and if so, what cleaning agent do I use?
- To clean bearings of grease you want to use a solvent. Several are available. Find one of these; mineral spirits, kerosene, or brake wash (aerosol). Use a parts cleaning brush and don't drop a bearing. Once they hit the floor they run and hide. Hard little critters to find, too. I use a magnet to pull the bearings out unless the old grease is too thick. The balls themselves can be put in a jar or tin with the solvent and soaked. Clean the race with the brush. I use an old metal coffee can to place the hub over and dip the brush in the can. It runs back inside to contain the mess. If you have compressed air you can blow them dry. If not you can force a piece of clean rag through the hub to dry. Inspect the clean race for pitting. (If there is pitting the race needs replaced and in most instances that will require a new hub.) Press the new grease in the race with your finger and place the balls one by one into the grease pressing them in. The new grease will hold the bearings from falling out. Don't worry if you think you are using too much grease, the excess will ooze out as you install the axle and you can wipe it off. Don't over tighten the axle nuts. There is a fine touch between play and over tight. With new grease I tighten them them to space the balls properly, then back off and tighten them for the proper feel.
- Q:I need to know how to install cam bearings in a 5.7 L engine 1998 Chevy.I need to know about the oil Galleries specifically
- you use a cam bearing installation tool... i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself if you've never built an engine before. remember the rear bearing goes in first and you work forward toward the front of the engine.
