- Q: The noise it is making is a high pitched sound that sounds like a squeaky wheel. Gets worse in 4x4.How do I change the bearings or do I have to take the truck to the shop. I can do most basic repairs and have access to most tools needed. Thanks
- If it was 2wd I would say you could probably do it yourself. However, the locking hub assemblies on 4wd need special tools and are a lot more complex than a standard truck front hub. This is definitely a shop job. Also it may not be the bearings themselves but the front driveaxles may have some problems. Ask a shop to verify exactly what is wrong first. Good luck.
- Q: when im parked on a flat surface my tires sit perfectly straight and look completely normal, then when i park on a small incline the tires and wheels spread t outward really bad, it turns and drives fine, it has 35 inch tires and 16.5 wheels and ive heard 4wd can cause it to do that but if anyone can give me some info thatd be AMAZING..lol-thanks
- Could be wheel bearings, upper or lower ball joints... Either have an alignment shop check, or jack it up and check all of them yourself....
- Q: what are skate board bearings?
- skateboard bearings are small metal balls in a casing that help the wheels roll faster[=
- Q: could you please tell me what other things could i use to clean my bearings so that they roll like new! jeje.... i mean if there's a better one than DW 40..... and where can i buy it ( not DW40) n_n'
- first of all it's WD-40, which supposedly stands for water displacement. WD-40 works well at first but it doesn't last very long. you're better off using actual oil or grease or something like that. you know what would probably work great, lock oil like a locksmith uses. go to your local locksmith or hardware store and ask about it, that stuff lasts forever.
- Q: I work with publix supermarkets. my manager is being a stickler all of a sudden about not stashing floats in the freezer eben u go on break because it ruins the bearings .. I dont know if thats the actual name of the carts that we use.. They are for our stock and have a center wheel set for pivoting. Can anyone confirm if it is bad? if not, where is a source I can shove in my bosses face
- Yep - bad news for the bearings. The wheel bearings in those things are unsealed ball bearings and are susceptible to getting water inside. Freezing makes the water crystallize and when it melts the dispersed water is changed to droplets that rust the balls and races. Bicycle wheels have the same problem. The carts belong to the store and the manager is responsible for seeing they are treated properly. As an employee your job is to treat them the way the manager says. If he says pour acid on them, pour acid on them.
- Q: Im just wondering how important it is to clean and regrease a cars wheel bearing. Working as a bicycle mechanic, this is something I do on a daily basis to every other bike we work on. And so Ive always wondered why I dont hear about wheel bearing going out on cars, or why I dont hear about having them serviced...Im assuming they are sealed bearings, but still it seems like they should need serviced every so often. I drive an early 90s ford truck, nothing fancy. Is this something I should consider doing, or should I not worry about it unless they start making noise? Thanks!
- Bikes and cars are 2 different animals, wheel bearings usually last for a long time, I wouldnt worry about them,
- Q: i was planning to buy a new bearing, but do they have different sizes? (sure answer pls......)
- Lets see... For a good deck I'd check out Plan B, ZooYork, or Zero they're all 3 pretty good brands. For trucks u have either Silver or Independent, I think Silver is better but that's my opinion. For bearings I'd go with either Bones or FKD saw blade. For wheels Bones would be a good buy as for grip tape u can either check out mob or check out Torey Pudwill's new brand called Grizzly Grip but it just came out recently so it may be hard to find in stores!
- Q: i just bought a new set of bearings and put some lubrication on 'em. but when i put them in my wheels and spun them they make a little grinding noise. i don't know if this is normal or not but any help would be appreciated.
- What kind of lubrication did you use? It sounds crazy, but with some bearings, if you used motor oil (as in 10w/40 or whatever) you can actually ruin your bearings. I killed a set of tensor bearings this way a while back. Same thing too, bad grinding noise and they kinda seized up a little too. They'd still roll, but not very well at all. Once I figured out that plain old OIL can be bad (which I still can't believe), I've just been sticking with Bones Speed Cream because I don't want to have to think about it too much.
- Q: I soaked them in alchohol overnight and then dried them out for 30 minutes and i blew on them and stuff. then i applied 3 drops of lubricant to each bearing with bones speed cream. i also removed the bearing spacers. they seem slower, maybe by 20 seconds when i spin them. i havent skated them yet since i cleaned them. possibly i should put back the spacers? i have bones spf wheels with bones super swiss 6 bearings.
- yes when you clean out your bearings they slow down a bit at first, they shouldn't take long to break in once you start skating, although it might seem like your going slower because your bearings will be silent compared to before
- Q: I currently own a 2009 Lightning Long SS, it has just a bit over 5000 miles on it. I was riding it down the freeway the other day and the rear end started to wag around and progressively get worse. When I got it to the shop I looked at the rear wheel and the bearings on the right side where the belt is were ground up and gone, just metal shavings. So my question is, should/could that have happened on its own without anyone screwing with my bike or a mechanic messing something up when I got my tires changed or during the regular maintenance? My riding habits are normal, I have never laid it down and it has been in for all its regular maintenance.ThanksScott
- It sounds like the pre-load on the bearing was wrong. In between the bearings there is a spacer that sets the load on the bearings. It sounds like it's wrong. Or it could have just been a bad bearing. It does happen. I'm amazed it didn't chew the belt up and break it. I'd check the belt very carefully to make sure the teeth aren't chewed up or missing. Changing a belt is an expensive repair due to the amount of tear down to replace it. Make sure the belt is good before you put it back on the road.
