- Q: I'm trying to use a stereo wire instead of a mono wire for an output from a circuit I've built. The problem is, the gold wire has been cut too short, and I'd rather not strip it back any further since I don't have a lot of cord to work with. Since there are three wires (red, white, gold - ground) can I use either the red or the white as output, and the remaining color for ground, or do I have to use the gold cable for the ground and let the remaining wire dangle (taped)?Thanks
- The gold wire is actually copper. It is braided and surrounds the red and white wires. It not only forms the common return for both the other wires, it is also a screen which eliminates unwanted pick up. The right channel signal appears between the red wire and the sceeen and the left channel signal appears between the white wire and the screen - which is usually grounded. If you use the red and white wires on their own you will probably get pick up on them. The screen really is necessary. If you have access to the screen at only one end (it sounds as if you might) then connecting the screen to whichever wire you choose to be grounded might be sufficient.
- Q: Hello, i am trying to hook up power windows in my truck. the motor has two wires and the switch has 3 wires. i just need the relay. i just need to know what kind of relay i need and how to hook it up. i know i need a reversing relay and that it needs to use the 3 switch wires along with the two motor wires and the two power wires. does anyone know what this relay is called and where i could find it online? thank you.
- Hold your horses here as this gets real complicated real fast Motor has two wires one is pos and the other is neg on the down stroke. Reverse applies on the up stroke. Three wires from switch. Center is supply (either ground or 12 v.d.c) Other two are outputs from the supply. (ground is suggested) There are literally 50 different relay types you can use depending on the application. Some are three pin some are four pin and some are five pin. The five pin is the most common type used for power windows. I suggest going to the local junk yard and find a ford F series truck with fuel injection Open hood and look on drivers inner fender well on back side of air filter box. There will be two or three relays under a small plastic cover mounted on slip mounts and if you pull up hard enough they will come off. Cut the wires to these relays as far back towards the dash as you possibly can (to get the most wire possible) You will need two of them per window. These are the commonly sold five pin relays and once you have them then e-mail me through my avatar and I can direct you exactly what wire to what pin to what wire on switch and then to motors.
- Q: I want to connect one of my rear sony speakers along the baseboard to my receiver. The specs say that the wire comes with 4 terminal blocks, with 4 connections on each terminal. My question is what will connect to what? Will the speaker attach the the flat wire cable that will attach to the original speaker cable which will connect to the receiver? - The flat wire is what you run under carpets, along baseboards, etc. The four wires allow you to run a pair of speaker wires (two sets of two) from your receiver to the general location where the speakers will be. The terminal blocks allow you to run regular speaker wires from the receiver to the flat wire. The terminal block at the other end then lets you run speaker wire from a terminal block at the other end of the flat wire to the pair of speakers that wire feeds. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which speaker, as long as you wire it up correctly. That is, you can have the first terminal be the + wire for the first speaker, the second the - wire for that speaker, and the third and fourth wires being the + and - wires for the second speaker.

- you cannot simply go with matching the colors factory radios have extra wires that are not needed with an aftermarket install most of the time (wires that control the dimmer on the radio, speed sensitive volume) you will need three power wires (constant, ignition, and ground), plus your speaker wires use a test light to test your wires, usually at the radio the yellow wire is your constant, the red is your ignition, and black is always ground to find your constant use the test light, it will be hot at all times so that your radio can remember the time, and your settings- next you need your ignition, it is only hot when the key is on or in the accessory position, to tell the radio when to come on- the ground is self explanatory to find which wires go to what speakers all you need is a 9v battery, put the positive end to a wire and test all of the other wires to the negative side and you will hear a crackling noise from a speaker when you have the right combination

- These are all probably hot-side wires. If you have the knowledge and the tools, find out which wire or wires is/are hot in the box with the switch off. If you have no idea what I am talking about, you REALLY need to find someone who knows electricity. BTW, the wires in the fan are quite simple to decode. The green wire is the ground and attaches to either the box or a ground wire in the box. The white wire is the neutral and attaches to the white wires in the box. The black is the hot lead for the fan and the blue is the hot lead for the light. These two can be combined if you have only one wall switch. Where they attach in the box will be determined by which hot lead is switched. I can probably guess how the box and switch are wired but I may be wrong and that would be dangerous. Call an electrician so you don't burn your house down.

- U don't need the diagram u can get a plug that plugs to the original wiring on u'r dash port, just ask for it by u'r cars year make and model u can find it at Walmart or whatever car sounds shop for around $10., get a wiring kit of 4 gage cable to power u'r amp around $35., 10 gage is too thin for any amp if u are using it for bass.

- Resistance = rho * L/A where rho = resistivity of the material, so it's the same for both wires. You've doubled the length, and you've divided the area by a factor of 2^2 = 4. Calculate rho * (2L)/(0.25A) and compare that to rho * L/A.
- Q: I have two low voltage wires that run from one side of a building to another. The insulation on both wires is the same color. I eventually just walked an additional wire around the building and checked continuity. Is there an easier way to differentiate between the two wires?
- 1. At one side of the building mark the two wires. 2. Connect a battery to the two ends noting which is positive. 3. Go to the other side of the building and use your voltmeter to determine which wire end is positive. Mark that one the sameas you did the other end of the positive wire.

- Home okorder /... (spanky, well trying to run solid wire in a car would be a real task! lol) And, 4 gauge can handle more than 95 amps.
