Q: Hi there,I have a very old house which only has 2 wires (1 white, 1 black) coming out of the wall.The ceiling fan / light has 2 red wires, 1 black, 1 green.What is right way to wire for this to operate?Thanks,: Most fans have a wiring schematic and this will tell you how to wire it. Normally black is the power, green is a ground, which you don't have, and as for the red wires I'm not sure. Is this a new fan or one that has been used before. In the USA we have a white wire which is a neutral. I'm puzzled about the two red wires, these may have been added at a later date. If your in a country that has 240 volts then this may be an explanation. Regards, Dale

Q: I'm replacing the door speakers in a 2001 Coupe Camaro with the factory sound system. I needed to know which wire was positive and which was negative so I bought a circuit tester. However, I keep getting the reading that both wires are positive. What could be causing this? I know the circuit tester works because I tested it on the battery terminals and it worked fine.: If you power it up, and go from one wire to ground at a time it will work, if you use the tester between the two speakers wires it will be positive both ways you hook it.

Q: I'm not sure what kind of wire to use to make wire rings. I had found 50ft of thin wire for a cheap price from city mill. Is there a difference between wire from city mill and wire from Walmart or Ben Franklin? I went to Walmart yesterday and the wire was expensive for such a short length. Am I able to use wire from city mill or is it different from wire you would get from a craft store? To me, wire is wire but i really don't know much about crafts.: There okorder /

Q: coil wiring diagram: The two small wires are positive and negative. Most are color coded and if it's a OEM part, the negative will be the same color as the group of smaller wires connected to the negative battery cable. Each manufacturer uses different color codes and for instance, Kawasaki uses black with yellow stripe. The other wire will go to the positive side. If the coil doesn't have wire coming out if it, it may have a + or - sign by the terminals. In actuality, it doesn't really matter which way you hook it up because a coil doesn't really care which way the electricity travels. It's the collapsing magnetic field that creates the spark and not the direction or movement of electricity.

Q: EL wire, or electroluminescent wire, is a wire which... well glows pretty colors lol. I want to buy some to make a costume, but I have some questions. I have a feeling that it will degrade over time, but how long will it take? Or do they start to degrade immeidately like glow sticks? Q: The infamous headlight switch please help: What is so infamous about plugging the wiring to the switch? It will only plug in one way. UPDATE 8/6/11: In over 45 years, I've only replaced one headlight switch that had melted and that was on a 1994 Plymouth Acclaim and the driver had left the headlights on all night and yes it drained the battery. The plastic plug had melted but the wires had not burned through, so I had something to work with. There is a possibility you can find a wiring diagram on Auto Zones website for your car, they do have an extensive library or you could try to find a Haynes manual for your car. Or if you are low on $$ if you tell us what manufacturer, model, year of car you drive someone here might be able to help.

Q: I bought a new light that holds two light bulbs for my bathroom and quickly took off the old light. I then noticed that wall had three wires coming from it, a black, red, and white. The light however has four wires coming from it, 2 whites and 2 blacks. How do i wire this properly so both light bulbs can be turned on and off simultaneously?: I'm going to assume that you are in the U.S.A. (if not, then disregard the rest of my answer). On the new fixture, twist the ends of the black wires together and twist the ends of the white wires together. Connect the white fixture wires to the white wire in the wall (I hope it is in an electrical box). Connect the Black fixture wires to either the Black or Red wall wire. To determine which one, you will need to know which one is controlled by the switch on the wall. You could just pick one and see if it works. If it does not, then try the other wire. Do not use the cheap crappy wirenut connectors that usually come with these fixtures. Go to the hardware store and buy a pack of tan wirenuts (red will work if necessary.)

Q: I have two kicker cvr 12s looking to wire them to an acoustic 601se amp can someone please tell me how to wire them like by matching the dots up and stuff.: Do not know the specs for your current amp, but the spec for the soundstream allows stability at 1 ohm with 1600 rms, hope this helps. Q: tryin to move dryer approx 8 more feet but existing wire not long enough have 12/2 wire can that be used to run 220 dryer: 12 wire is not heavy enough to pull a 220 dryer under any circumstances, and is against ANY code in America; and is a severe fire hazard. Besides, you need to have three wires - 10/3 0r 8/3 wire, anyway, so you would have a ground. Papaw
