- Q: Or can stranded wire of the same gauge be subsitituted for solid wire without any consequences? The reason I ask is because its for a massive 4kJ capacitor discharge circuit, and I need all the energy delivered to the power coils im using, cant afford to have much leakage inductance.
- Stranded wires have slightly higher inductance than solid wires, but this is noticable only on transmission lines and larger conductors. if you are only using a short conductor, i don't think the inductance of the wire will affect the system, unless the wire is coiled.

- intreped said it well but i want to know how did you run the wire through the wall switch . hopefully you ran it direct with the switch breaking the hot wire . so you will have one black and one white wire . before you hook it up use a lamp to make sure you have the right wires . and you don't have to worry about polarity the fan has forward and reverse and the light buld dos not care.

- Too big of wire is just a waste of money. As Rick said, 12-16 is ideal for subs. 10 AWG would be the maximum size required.

At 175', you're going to use most of a 250' roll, which is the way most residential wire is sold. A 250' roll will run about $35 - $40 depending on where you live and whether you buy it at a wholesale electrical supply house or a retail store. Buying the wire by the foot will most likely cost about the same as the price/ft. for cut wire goes up.

You are looking for donations of end-of-life cables to make the baskets, I recommend trying some of the electronics recycling organizations that are becoming more and more prevelent. Electronics put tons of bad chemicals in our environment when they are thrown away, so more and more efforts are coming up to find ways to recycle them rather than throw them in a landfill. - I love wiring questions :) do you want to use the PTT? If yes you can assume it is a switch and solder it inline with the lead the other end (after the switch would be connected to the lead end of the 1/4 if you have a pigtail 1/4 then this would be the insulated wire, the ground would simply connect to the uninsulated wire if you are actually using a do it yourself 1/4 plug then the same rules apply only you are soldering to the terminal inside the plug sleeve rather then to bare wires (I always prefer this its cleaner). Please Note: The PTT switch will cause a loud pop when it is engaged and released on a Hi Gain guitar amp and sometimes this can damage the speakers as well as delicate internal components so do this of coarse at your own risk.
