Q: does it matter what gauge speaker wire to use when hooking up a powered subwoofer?
A Powered subwoofer does not use speaker wire - it usually uses a RCA cable. EDIT: Ok - some older subwoofers only have speaker inputs and speaker outputs. You run speaker wire from the Left/Right speaker outputs to the sub, it strips off the sounds it wants to produce, and it passes the other sounds onto the other speakers. I suggest some good oxygen free 12 ga wire. There is a roll off effect with higher frequency sounds and long runs of speaker wire. It usually does not matter for a Home Theater system, but you can hear it with a high-end music system. Thicker wire reduces the effect. Since with a sub you would be running wires to the sub, then back to the L/R speakers, you could be using 15-30 ft of wire. Get a spool of good 12 ga from a speaker building site or get some of the Carol 12 speaker wire from Home Depot.
Q: If someone were holding onto a high-voltage wire by both hands, why would his/her body have the same potential as the wire? How come his/her body would attain the same potential as the wire?
Any open ended conductor (a human body in this case) making contact with another conductor will automatically attain the same Voltage potential as the other conductor with respect to the opposite terminal of the source Voltage that supplied the Voltage. For example if you make good contact with your finger to the positive terminal of a 12V battery then that puts your whole body at 12 Volts above the negative terminal of that battery. Two conductors in contact with each other will always be at the same Voltage potential at the point of contact. The fact that both hands are on the wire makes no difference because the resistance of the high Voltage wire between the hands is so small compared to the resistance through a human body from one hand through the chest and out the other hand that all the current if any would go through the wire and not through the human body. If however the wire was cut in two at any point between the two hands then one hand would have the full positive source voltage and the other hand would be at reference 0 Volts. Consequently the body would most likely immediately burn to a crisp due to the current through the body. If the body did not disintegrate and current continued to flow through it then a Voltage gradient would be established from one hand to the other with one hand at full wire Voltage and the other hand at 0 Volts.
Q: voltage regulater wires get hot when bike runs 86 yamaha v max. why do they do this?
If the wire connectors at the regulator are corroded or not making a good connection, that can cause the wires to get hot. On my Kaw, I ended up having to remove the connectors and solder the ends together to keep them from getting hot enough to melt the plastic surrounding the connectors.
Q: I own a 1990 Toyota 4runner 6cyl, 3L. it had a few performance issues when i bought it. ( just didnt seem to have any power idling at around 200), so before spending money on expensive items, i figured spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. So i just changed the spark plug wires today, and immediatly the truck was runnin much better idling at 800-1000 , about 5 minutes into driving, the problem started again, i parked the truck, it was idling at 200-300 again, opened the hood saw a bit of smoke coming from one of the wires, so im hoping and assuming it was just smoking because the wire was touching a hot surface, i can hear a bit of a clicking noise that i dont remember hearing before, almost like a spark. what could cause the sudden problem, is it possible the wires could be connected to the wrong spark plugs ( i replaced the old ones one by one, so i know i didnt connect it wrong) any tips would be great
in case you seem on the wires at night you will see them arc on the hours of darkness what form of wires are you employing u want the terrific ones for that motor vehicle what does Toyota say approximately you situation you are able to desire to have yet another situation because of the fact this in no way has been a situation till now what have you ever no longer carried out that could desire to be carried out the race type wires could desire to splendid your situation get them a velocity save and ask for there opinion the radiator sounds love it extremely is stopped up so., while replaced into the final time you flushed the device thoroughly as reported by employing Toyota it extremely is a ninety two and that makes it 15 years old 08 are out now.what form of plugs are you putting interior the engine right here lower back basically the terrific will artwork reliable success
Q: I have a 98 oldsmobile intrigue. Stock radio was taken out a while ago so all there is are wire hanging out. I don't know what I need, a wire connector or wire harness. Honestly don't know what's what. Also need to know how to use the wire connector/harness.and what goes to what
First off, if there are bare wires, meaning they are all loose and you see copper then you are in for a rough time. If they are still wired into the stock harness and connectors it will be much easier. If you have a stock harness and connectors, you should buy a vehicle harness adaptor that is correct for your car. Just about any stereo shop should be able to get them. This will plug into your stock harness and give you labeled wires to connect to the harness you get with the new head unit. Just splice them together and you should be good. Very straight forward. Just follow the instructions. If you have bare wire then you will need to get a chilton's or haynes manual for your car. There should be a wiring diagram that lists the color codes for the what wire is what. Use that to splice into the deck harness. This is the harder route because you don't have a lot of slack on the stock wires and its a headache to keep it all strait in your mind.
Q: 1 green wire, 1 black with red stripe wire
Take a AA battery and put the green to positive and black to negative. if speaker pops out a lil thats the correct way. If speaker goes in, its the oppisite way (meaning black would be pos. and not neg) but normally in cars, Black is NEG. I don't have a book and i'm at school with the site i need to look your info up blocked. I google it and it won't even let me google. sorry
Q: I did an engine swap with some friends and everything is in place, from the rebuild 700R4 w/ a shift kit, to the rebuild 350 bored .30 over. But all I have left to do is the wiring, but have no idea how to. So about how much would it cost to have a professional finish the wiring?
The wiring on a basic carburated non emissions engine is pretty basic...it's something you could do by yourself in your garage. Anyone that has any knowledge in wiring and electricity could wire it up. Don't let it scare you! :)
Q: I have a 3 wire source I want to connect it to a switch on/off and then make it 2 wire to the light
A three wire source generally means hot (white or red), neutral (black) and ground (green). If that's the case, eliminate the ground wire. It's not as safe, but will let you hook up using the hot and nuetral wires.
Q: Just bought a new amp for my truck. The speaker outputs needs to be indiviually wired to the door speakers. Do you splice into the speaker wire or the trucks harness?
ideally you want to wire directly from the amp to the door speakers with new speaker wire but doing this properly requires removing some of the trimming and passing the new wires throughout the car. you can also take the easier route and pass the wires from your amp up under the steering wheel behind the center console and splice them into the existing wires going to the door speakers. as long as the wattage isn't very high the latter shouldn't be a problem. however, if it were up to me i would use new wires and pass them throughout the car, removing the trimmings, etc. this can be somewhat of a pain to do if you have never done it before though.
Q: Hi, I'm extending my pc 5.1 sound system stereo cables. I have a M/F extension wire which I will cut to solder a seamless wire to the system. Problem is that in the system cable I have a white, green(or red) and bare wire. and ont he extension I have a black red and white. Which wire do I connect to which?thanks
I'n not sure I understand the problem. In my view if you have 3 wires -- ending in, let's say, three plugs -- and want an extension it doesn't matter what colour the wires are as long as you end up connecting the original wires to the same plugs. So if you have white, green and bare on the original cable, when you cut the cable you have white, green and bare on both halves. Use the white, black, red extension cable to connect the two halves. I'd suggest white white, green red, and bare to black at one end and the same at the other ... but it doesn't really matter. Hope that helps.
