Q: alright, 5 speakers with 4ohm svc, what would my wiring options be?
With 5 speakers there won't be a symmetral wiring pattern for even power distribution. With 4 it would be 2 pair in parallel with both sets in series for a 4 ohm final load or all 4 in parallel for a 1 ohm final load.
Q: I am replacing an old outlet with a GFCI and I have encountered a red wire...what is the red wire for?
There might be a three way switch on the circuit,or a red wire can indicate a second hot wire. It gets complicated very fast, however almost all homes have these red wires in them, and they serve an imporatant service. Could be a red wire is used when you come out of a switch with hot and go into another switch as neutral.
Q: I'm trying to fix a light fixture for a friend. Her father-in-law gummed it up. At the fixture, there are 3 white wires soldered to a single wire. There are 3 black individual wires and one red wire. There are three switches that control the light. If I hook one of the black and the 3 white to the light, the light stays on constantly. If I hook either of the two other black individually, nothing comes on period.I'm pretty much at a loss. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
There are three switches that control the light? Remove the cover for those switches and check what color wiring is connected to them. If you have 3 blacks, two could be power to the switches, and the other is line voltage from the panel. The red could be a runner for a 3 pole switch. Whites are neutrals. Trial and error unless you start tracing out wires.
Q: i had a wired linksys router. can a linksys wireless network usb receive signal from the wired router.
Unless the adapter can break the laws of physics, then no. If the router doesn't have an antenna and a wireless radio, it won't broadcast any usable signal to your USB.
Q: Kind of a confusing question I guess. I want to cut a wire that contains 3 other wires and splice into them then reconnect them. is all I need relatively the same gauge wire or is it potentially different type like some sort of special speaker wire..? Should be one positive one negative and the other some sort of signal for sound. (Microphone to a speaker). All I need is standard copper wire?
i wont even begin to touch on this, leave it alone and call a pro
Q: i need to make a battery powered light bulb and i have copper wire at home...will it work?
Copper wire is rather orange in color. If it is insulated it will be surrounded by a coating of plastic for its entire length. If you cut it and then look at its end the copper wire should be in the middle with the insulation around it like a doughnut. Insulation can be of any color and is not always plastic. The copper wire itself can be either solid and made up of a single strand, or stranded and thus composed of numerous much smaller diameter strands. Stranded wire is more flexible and is the type used commonly for lamps, but sold copper wire, although stiffer, will work as well.
Q: I'm looking to install a ceiling fan in a fixture that recently had just a light (no idea if it ever had a fan). When I removed the old light, I found that there were three white wires from the ceiling twisted together and connected to the white wire on the light fixture, one black wire from the ceiling connected to the black wire on the fixture, and three black and one white ceiling wires just capped together, not connected to the light fixture.Any idea what the last 4 wires are? I would think that I just need to leave them alone, however, I have to replace the box in the ceiling with one that is rated for a fan, which means I need to (temporarily) disconnect them. I have the breaker turned off that turned the light off, but can I be 100% sure that power to those other 4 wires if also off?
Cotton is right and even though you have low voltage I shut the main off to for sure when I am on a ladder because even the little shock might be enough to make you lose your balance and fall
Q: could someone teach or explain to me how to hook up the 1st one, i do not understand what is happening there. How do you connect thoes wires to the main wire??? the distribution?
Ok, first thing you want to do is, for each subwoofer, wire a negative and positive together. You can use regular speaker wire to do that (well you're supposed to anyway). After that, you will have a negative and positive terminal left on each subwoofer. What you need to do is run a speaker wire from each of the terminals, so you have 6 different wires from 6 separate terminals. Make note of the 3 positive wires and the 3 negative wires. Now what you do is simply twist together the 3 positive wires together, so you have 1 positive wire. Connect that positive wire to the positive terminal of the amp (if it's a 1 channel amp. If it's a 2 channel, connect it to a bridged channel on the positive terminal. Or however you want.) Do the same for the 3 negative wires. Twist them together to have 1 negative wire, and connect it to the negative terminal on the amp. Finished! That kind of wiring is called Series wiring, by the way. The other kind is called Parallel wiring.
Q: do i need a wiring harness or can i use wire crimps and do it w.o on a 2000 blazer 4wd if u think i need it plz tell me thanks
unless you known what each wire does get the wiring harness or you very well may destroy your head unit
Q: I want two lights on two 3-way switches.1. Power from basement box into light #1 with 12-2 wire. 2. Another 12-2 wire from light #1 to light #2.3. A 12-3 wire from light #1 to switch #1.4. Another 12-3 wire from light #2 to switch #2. Will this do it?
nevermind what I think....the guy under me knows EXACTLY what he is talking about! Do it exactly like he says. His way is better than mine was, honestly, because he has more experience. Thats why I deleted my own answer----we call that professional courtesy to seniority and its what electricians do when someone has more experience than we have speaks up. Now it doesnt matter what I think....I only have 22 years experience and someone with more experience than I has given better, sounder advice than I did. You should listen to him, not me.......or anybody else whom cannot match or exceed his experience. Or didnt you know that all Electricians are part of the same Brotherhood? This is why we always agree (or agree to be wrong). I was wrong, obviously, and my advice, second rate, compared to the advice you are about to get. So.....Pay attention! Wisdom follows!!!!
