Q: I was doing some homemade circuit wiring and had a plug wired to a push button switch, wired to the load,(lamp light) then wired back to the plug. My question is the first time around I used 14g wire and it worked fine, light came on at the push button. Second time I used the same plug, 16gauge wire wired to the switch, to the load(this time a miniature bulb that sat in a smaller version of those pull lights in closets) and then back to the plug. When it was switched on nothing happened. So I went back to the 16gauge and wired it up and the bulb popped. Is this because the wire used is to small and not rated to carry the amps provided by the wall receptacle?: No. If the wire had been too thin, the light would still have lit and the wire would have become warm if you were passing too high a current through it. The wire will only carry the current demanded by the load. An internal lamp draws very little current. If the lamp didn't light, it was for other reasons, not the thickness of the wire.

Q: What wires plug in under the center console of a 2000 firebird, there is a 5 wire plug that I can't figure out where it plugs into: +1 for the LS1Tech site. I am a member and there is tons of info there and great people to help you out.

Q: You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.: Because there are a lot more electrons available in that ridiculously large wire.

Q: I am replacing an old outlet with a GFCI and I have encountered a red wire...what is the red wire for?: Just loose in the box or was it connected to the receptacle? If connected, it could be a switched wire to control half the receptacle. That won't work with a GFCI receptacle. Wire nut it off in the box.

Q: installing whelen car strobe lights.the directions say to wire the power to the battery with wire that can hold 125% of the power: Go with a guage bigger than the wire harness on the strobe. If you go too small of a wire it could put too much of a load on the wire. That will cause it to heat up and can catch fire if it gets hot enough. Like what sparky said, use a relay. I installed neons and strobes in my car using 10ga wire relays, and a power distribution block.

Q: Im installing a motion sensor which comes with 3 wires,red black and white and want to connect it to a indoor light that only comes with 2 wires white and black.How do I go about installing them and powering them?: Hook the white wire to the white on the fixture and the white coming in. The black coming in gets wired to the black wire on the detector. The red gets hooked the the black in the fixture.

Q: Suppose we have a 10v battery.one end of the battery is at 10V electric potential and other is at 0V Hence,the potential difference is 10V.if we measure the voltage( p.d.) across positive terminal at 10V and the middle of the wire connecting both ends of battery will it be less??I mean,at the middle of the wire the electric will not be zero,right??(correct me if am wrong)Thanks!!: If the wire had some reasonable resistance which prevented melting of the wire and explosion of the battery; the middle of the wire would show half the potential difference between the terminals. The wire connecting the terminals becomes a potentiometer with Voltage falling linearly between the terminals (assuming uniform resistance along the length of the wire). In practice, Voltage drop on a wire supplying power to a load is proportional to the resistance of the wire divided by the resistance of the load. When the wire is the load, all Voltage drop occurs along the wire.

Q: installing ceiling fan, when remove light fixture, it has 4 wires system, wires used: white red and green with one light switch, what is black for, it has a wire nut, but has nothing connect to it: Before I answer this again I would like to know. What has 4 wires the ceiling box or the fan/light kit. Are they comming out of a three wire together? (one piece of romex) from differant directions? Black is hot. colored(other than green) is wired to hot and may be hot also. White is neutral same as ground but should not be wired to or with a ground Green or bare copper is ground
