- Q: I'm replacing the ground wire in a chandelier because it has been cut by the previous owner when it was removed from the ceiling. Overall it is pretty simple and I have everything diagramed. When I went to Radio Shack and bought the replacement wire they gave me 18 gauge solid insulated hookup wire. It looks totally different. The ground wire is a braided copper wire (7 strands). Should I go back and take my copper wire with me and get copper or is what I have just as good? An electrician will do the installation of the chandelier into the ceiling.
- Radio Shack's hookup wire is copper, but it may be tinned so it has a silver/chrome color instead of a copper color. Tinned wire is more expensive but is also more resistant to corrosion. Braided wire is more flexible than solid wire, but either will do the job. The only real important consideration is the gauge of the wire. You want to make sure your new ground wire is at least as thick as the old one.
- Q: You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.
- Increasing the diameter of a wire while maintaining a constant density is equivalent to connecting another wire in parallel with the present wire. Each wire contains a certain end to end resistance. The total equivalent end to end resistance of two wire resistors connected in parallel is always less than resistance value of the wire with the smallest end to end resistance. Another way to look at it. The larger the wire the greater the cross sectional area. The greater the cross sectional area of a wire the greater the number of parallel paths the current can take. The more parallel current paths available from one end of a wire to the other the less the overall resistance of the wire will be. You stated There is 3 Volts going through each wire, to power your 1 Volt LED. If this is true then you must have a resistor of roughly 100 Ohms that is dropping 2 Volts connected between the 3 Volt source and the 1 Volt LED. Either the 3' wide wire or the .3 wire would work fine in this application. The .3 wire would be a tad less cumbersome than the 3` wire I might add. Response to additional details: Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance and is independent of the applied Voltage. More length of a given wire would mean more resistance. More cross sectional area of a given wire means less resistance. Any wire has resistance but the conductor wire resistance itself in an LED circuit is of no consequence I believe.
- Q: i want to attach a wire to my new speaker but when i cut the wire taken from my headphone, there are 4 wires in it, 2 are golden colored and the other two are green and blue but the speaker has only 2 points to connect the wires.Someone plz help me.
- Use your the teeth, or placed money into some $2 twine strippers from the ironmongery shop. Its additionally a stable theory to apply some Banana Plugs to characteristic to that speaker twine, this could make it plenty greater basic to hookup on your receiver and audio gadget. not all structures are waiting to apply Banana plugs, yet while your gadget accepts them, then this grants the main shield connection.
- Q: trying to put in a different radio, and take out the original radio, but don't know which wires are which. i tried doing it myself already, and now when i turn on my headlights, the taillights don't come on? but the turn signals come on and so do the hazards. did i snip a wrong wire or did one come loose?i only cut the wires that were attached to the stock radio.help please!thanks!

- Q: I have a 98 oldsmobile intrigue. Stock radio was taken out a while ago so all there is are wire hanging out. I don't know what I need, a wire connector or wire harness. Honestly don't know what's what. Also need to know how to use the wire connector/harness.and what goes to what
- First off, if there are bare wires, meaning they are all loose and you see copper then you are in for a rough time. If they are still wired into the stock harness and connectors it will be much easier. If you have a stock harness and connectors, you should buy a vehicle harness adaptor that is correct for your car. Just about any stereo shop should be able to get them. This will plug into your stock harness and give you labeled wires to connect to the harness you get with the new head unit. Just splice them together and you should be good. Very straight forward. Just follow the instructions. If you have bare wire then you will need to get a chilton's or haynes manual for your car. There should be a wiring diagram that lists the color codes for the what wire is what. Use that to splice into the deck harness. This is the harder route because you don't have a lot of slack on the stock wires and its a headache to keep it all strait in your mind.
- Q: How can it be possible to create a high voltage and have a small gauge wire? Example: 3gj or 3000mw in a small wire (just an example)
- The limit on the size of current carrying conductor is the heat produced due to power losses which leads to failure of the conductor, the power losses depends mainly on the square of the current (P=I^2R) so in power transmission voltage is being stepped-up to high values to decrease current and, in turn, the conductor size is reduced. Theoretically we could step-up the voltage to extremely high values and thus we could have a very thin wire to carry the small current because P=VI so at constant power as voltage V increases the current I decreases. But there are also limits for stepping up voltage as the insulation is directly affected by the voltage. In case of insultaed cables, the insulating material (PVC or XLPE) will fail if the voltage reaches its Break-down Voltage. In case of overhead transmission lines (OHTLs) the conductors are insulated by air between phases and the suspended disk insulators each has their own breakdown voltages. It should be noted that safety regulations determine a safe distance of 1 cm per Kv that you should keep from high voltage conductor. This means that for a consductors carries voltage of 500kv you should allow a distance of 5 meters away from it for your safety as its magnetic effect is not exlusive on its surface but for a distance around it proportional with the voltage.
- Q: the sensor part has 4 wires,(2 white,1 black and 1 red)each light has 1bl.and 1white
- If all else fails read the directions! Please read the directions that came with the motion sensor/outdoor light. They should have a color code in them somewhere that tells you what each color is and what it should be wired too. If you have any doubts hire a licensed qualified electrician to do it for you. You would be much better off if you don't think you are capable of doing it. If you do think you are capable make sure you turn off the breaker in the breaker box. (Not the light switch on the wall)
- Q: if a wire of initial length, and radius has a measured resistance of 1.0 ohms. the wire is drawn under tensile stress to a new uniform radius of 0.25r. what is the new resistance of the wire?
- Wire resistance =( length/area) x a constant When drawn, the wire radius is 1/4 of original, and it's length is 16 times of original (because volume is unchanged). Solve for new resistance/
- Q: What fabric is the wire made of? What are the advantages and disadvantages?...
- Metal wire fabric is made of polyester cotton, brocade cotton, brocade polyester and cotton wire fabric. The wire content is usually around 5%. Wire fabric refers to the metal by high-tech drawing treatment of metal fiber into the fabric and formed a high-grade fabric,
