- Q: how do you get red stains off the carpet?
- What are the red stains? If you could tell us, we may be of more help to you. If you are not exactly sure, then a guesstimate would be good. Wine? lipstick? juice? paint? etc
- Q: I have an ajoining living room and dinning room, should the area rug in the living room match the area rug in my dinning room?
- I would simply get different rugs but have them compliment one another... similar color schemes. Maybe one could have a larger patttern and one a smaller pattern so it's not too busy.
- Q: are house is getting new flooring and i was wondering wats better hard wood flooring or carpet?
- Hardwood floors. I had a choice, hardwood floors or carpeting. Made the wrong choice and picked wall to wall carpeting. Too much work for me. Don't like to vacuuming, it's a pain in my butt. When my cat gets sick it's always on the carpeting even though tile is right there. I think she does this on purpose. I'm convinced she was out to get me. I finally said, ENOUGH! and had to admit once again I made the wrong choice. Ripped it all up and put down laminate. I love it. It's strong, doesn't scratch, easy to clean, especially with cat around. Give me a soft dust mop any day. Easy clean all the way around. Don't have real wood floors. Chose laminate because it's stronger and doesn't need to be sanded and redone. My opinion, my opinion only.
- Q: theres a burn mark on my carpet about the size of a silver dollar and i want to try and replace it whats the best way to go about it?
- Do you have any spare carpet from when they installed the carpet? You can cut a small section out and match it to the spare carpet, then use carpet tape to reapply it. Or you could cut a small piece out of the back of a closet and use it to patch. It would be a lot easier to just put a nice throw rug over the burn mark though.
- Q: We are in the process of evaluating the replacement of carpeting on the top deck of our houseboat. The area is 560 sq. ft. and is glued down. The present carpet suffers from sun rot. 1. In the process of replacement, will we need to strip the old carpet from the surface of the fiberglass? a. What chemical would release the old glu without damage to the Fiberglass. b. Can a product be overlayed on the present surface? What kind of adhesive would we use? c. Scraping the glass surface could scar the surface. 2. Replacementa. What type of fabric would you recommend? b. What adhesive could we use to insure edges and corners will stay down? c. Exposure to the intense sun is six months per year (Lake Powell Utah). The boat is docked in a covered slip most of the time, receiving only partial weather.
- To get up the old adhesive the best product to use that won't harm the surface is charcoal lighter fluid. Buy an Indoor Outdoor carpet and adhere this with an exterior Liquid Nail. This should do the job!!! Good Luck!!!
- Q: I am making my own rug with a random pattern. One of the strands broke on the canvas and i have a large area i can't work. How do I repair this? Any help or suggestions (other than start over) would be appreciated!
- I used to make my own hooked rugs...just cut a patch of canvas the approx. size of that damaged area and incorporate the patch into the rest of your wool pattern...you could thread some thread first so it will stay in place as you are hooking the rug...Since it's a random pattern it will not be noticed (only from underneath) Right?
- Q: or any carpet for that matter disintegrate around the edges near outer doorways? It hasn't been wet either. I mentioned cheap because my Land lady doesn't get the expensive anything. What could cause it?
- Sounds like a really old or really poor quality carpet. Even the cheaper carpets should last a long time if there is no traffic. I suppose it is possible to find a carpet material that is so bad that it will begin to rot away after only a few years, but normal landlords don't buy that kind. The want the kind that will last for a long time. I can't think of anything that could cause the problem you described other than extreme age or extremely bad quality. Mayan
- Q: I have burns in my landlords carpet from cigarettes. How can I remove the burns short of replacing the carpet?
- Snip away the dead carpet using fine manicure scissors and tweezers. You want to remove only the dead (bunt) carpet and nothing more. Surly not inch by inch more like millimeter by millimeter! After removing all the dead carpet. Find an unnoticeable area in the carpet such as the back of a closet and remove bits of good carpet using the same method. Try taking samples from multiple areas. Roll the new samples up to fit the hole, apply carpet glue to the base of the hole. Careful not to get any glue on undamaged fibers. Place the samples onto the glue cover with a piece of paper and a heavy book. Allow to dry for several hours. Remove the book and paper and blend the carpet with a wide tined comb. Also if there are singed but not burnt area try using a solution of 2 parts hydrogen peroxide 10 parts water. Dabbed the solution on the fibers spray with water and dab dry with a paper towel. Wait until the area is thoroughly dry before proceeding with gluing in new carpet samples.
- Q: I built my own box, sounds great but looks terrible without carpet.
- simple.just get the carpet you like.buy some contact cement at local hardware.apply cement to both carpet and box.you can use a small paint brush, but buy cheap ones you can only use it once.allow to dry to a tacky finish.stick carpet and trim.be carful once its stuck its there to stay.also have you thought about having bedliner sprayed on or do it yourself spray liner.check atoumotive supplier or local bedliner co.
- Q: Yes... i have been staining a part of my wood closet doors. While this has happened... i had accidentally gotten a few small spots of stain on the carpet. Does anyone know how to get these out?
- If you have olefin carpeting you can use anything to get it out. If you have a blend then you are out of luck. If it can penetrate wood to stain it, it will penetrate carpet fiber. We use a solvent to break down oil stains. Water based cleaners will not work. Like takes out like. Be careful with solvent cleaners. If you use too much it can beak down the glue on you carpet backing. You can get solvent spotters from carpet cleaning supply stores. We consider this to be carpet damage not a stain.
