- Q: Can I use a fabric dye (RIT), and just paint it on the 3quot; wide border? Want to change from present light blue to dark brown.jackie
- I have worked with Rit dyes quite frequently and although they are good dies for natural fibers, I am not sure painting a boarder will net the results you desire. First of all, the dye has to be mixed with salt. Because you will not be able to rinse and spin the dye out of he rug, that salt will just remain in your rug when the dye has dried. This may leave salt crystals in your rug along with making it quite stiff. And,because the dye is wet, it will certainly bleed outside of the boarders of the rug. Another problem is the dye bleeding onto the floor causing permanent damage. Even if you can jump over these obstacles, the dye will remain in the rug, full strength because it can not be rinsed and spun out, so it can easily transfer the color from the rug to your shoes to other areas of the house. And, heaven forbid, if the rug gets wet at a later date it will reactivate the dye and boy I will hear you cursing from here. So, you see, using this type of dying process is really full of challenges and there is too much to go wrong so I do not think it is worth the risk. However, there may be other dyes I am unaware of. Do an internet search on dyes and also rug dying to get some helpful hints and possible products that will net you the results you are after. I have lots of resources that I will check on and edit my answer if I get more information.
- Q: I live in Denver, Colorado. What is the average $ amount per yard of carpet for apartment grade carpet? What are some prices? I know they don't all go through the same company, but at about what average price is it sold at per yard for apartments?
- I don't live in the states but if you are looking at carpet... I would look at the density of the carpet and the material used to make it. in the synthetic material you tend to have the Olefin being the bottom end, polyester being the middle and Nylon being the top. If you want to save money but let it last longer upgrade the underpad and use a less expensive carpet. The extra thickness in the underpad will extend the life of the carpet
- Q: Their is a black spot on our white carpet. I think it's been their for at least 2 years, but we never realized it was their. We've tried 2 brands of carpet remover, and it only faded a little bit. We tried oxy spot remover, and it didn't do anything, please help.
- buy a stain devil thats made for biro nailvarnish or paint make sure you rinse well. its worked on everything ive needed it to even hair dye!!!!
- Q: What is the carpet under the sofa and the tea table
- Explain the use, sofa blanket and other carpets, floor mats,
- Q: I have been looking in stores and the only ones I have found were ones that were really elaborate and I want more of a simple one. What is a good place to find area rugs. I dont want one from online.
- Pier 0ne imports has pretty nice rugs, more on the consertive side.
- Q: We had to take our area rug outside for a cleaning and now it is raining. The rug probably will remain wet for at least 36 hours. Are there steps we can take to prevent mildew from setting in?
- Another tip: Allow your carpet to dry flat... dont roll it up or anything... maybe get a hook hanger and hang it by your dryer... so the heat can dry it a bit faster! :) thats all i got! good luck! :)
- Q: i have a old rug its a shaggy type rug that i got when my great grandfather passed away and im not sure what year its from all i know is that its way over 20 years because he had it when i was born, and it was old then. i want to know what i can get to clean it with out it messing it up, right before he passed away he had put it in a box out in his barn and it smells its not really dirty it just smells and i've tried many things and all they do is just cover up the smell for a little while, if anyone know how i could get it cleaned please let me know, thanks
- It is dirty and really smells. You need to lay it out on the ground and shampoo the living snot out of it. Rinse it off and do it again. After a few workouts of doing this it will be fine. Unfortunately, when you are done you will ask the question, Why did I do this? Why didn't I just throw this away? This rug sucks and it still smells.
- Q: what carpet cleaning services are good and affordable in the Jackson, Tennessee area?
- you can seldom go wrong with SERVPRO. they're on Miller Avenue in Jackson.
- Q: I used one of those machines to clean a rug and it's left it all streaky. I want to start again when it's dry and not using the machine..so can anyone tell me what carpet cleaner to use or has any tips or suggestions. Any help appreciated. How do you clean your rugs/carpets?
- If it left streaks you should have gone over the carpet again with the machine. They are more effective and your hands. If you use the machine again boil your water so it is super hot and then go over the floor again.
- Q: I have an ugly pink-tan carpet that has to go. Underneath the carpet is wood. But the wood is a bit rough and doesn't have any color to it. How do i remove my carpet and fix up the wood floor underneath?
- The carpet need to be pulled as you said. Start at a corner with a pair of pliers to get a grip and pull back. If the room is of any size, I pull back along one wall and use a utility knife and cut through the backing rather than through the top. I cut in strips from 4/8 foot wide depending how long the room is. Roll up with carpet side out for easier handling, I use duct tape or strong twine to tie the roll. Then remove the pad and tack strip. A floor scraper will remove the stapes. If there is hard wood under it, call a flooring guy/gal to refinish it. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.
