- Q:I have a 2000 dodge 1500 the water pump is leaking and the belt is real squeaky. Are these related?
- The water pump is worn out and you may actually be hearing it sqeak.
- Q:Hi, what is the difference between an Air pump and a Water pump. What are the functions of each? Does a tank filter come with an air pump? Is an Air pump or Water pump required?
- Air pumps basically do two things. One is power undergravel filters. The motion of the bubbles traveling up the tubes draws water down into the grid and creates a biological filter. The other is to power an air stone. Air stones break the surface tension, allowing for the air/gas exchange to take place. Filters clean the water biologically, mechanically, and chemically. Bacteria will grow in your filter and keep the ammonia and nitrite low. As the filter operates, it breaks the surface tension of the water, allowing for the air/gas exchange. Because an air pump by itself does not grow bacteria, a filter/water pump is much more important. Most tank kits do not come with an air pump unless an undergravel kit is included.
- Q:It DID start after the Water Pump was put on. And i have not yet been able to detect a vacuum leak. The quot;whistling noiseseems consistent with RPMs, and the quot;dieseling(run-on) stopped in all but a rapid succession of 5 quick ~1-minute start/stops when the engine was fully warmed.. then it minorly ran-on.Could i be driving myself nuts over a Water Pump sound, and if it IS a Water Pump bearing, do i need a new Water Pump?1984 Chevy Camaro. 2.8 V6 carb'd 165,000 miles Auto.
- nicely, whilst you're like me you should make effective your self which you're turning out to be performed what ought to be performed. So, to locate precisely the place the noise is coming from, get your self a stethoscope. we are going to use component of backyard hose for this and it artwork great, 3-4 feet long. place one end on your ear and flow the different end around the engine (being careful of all shifting areas) the place you think of the noise is coming from. this variety you would be waiting to pinpoint the place the noise is and what section is making it. you would be attentive to you have discovered it whilst the noise is loudest. get rid of and replace. attempt this and that i assure you will locate the priority. you will be able to choose help revving the engine at those rpm you indicated. sturdy success!
- Q:How do I check my well water pumping system to see if there is a leak? I have terrible rusty water.
- The radiator surely holds the water/coolant and the pump circulates the mixture via the engine. Upon returning to the radiator, the water is cooled from air passing via the fins of the radiator. The pumps job is to flow the mixture to verify that the nice and comfortable water to relax subsequently, the engine is then cooled.
- Q:I just noticed a slight leak from my water pump. About the size of my fist. I called one mechanic and was told the 2001 BMW Z3's water pump seals are tight and do not leak with the car is running (engine is hot) but once the car cools the water pump seals expand resulting in the small leak, that I shouldn't worry about it unless it leaks more, the engine over-heats, or dash light turns on. The BMW said I should have the water pump replaced but he may have just said that to make a repair sale. Anyone out there know the truth?
- on that car the miles are critical for water pump replacement and maybe rad replacement including the t/stat and hoses//you are already over the time period/coolant system failure is imminent
- Q:the water pump from the factory has an extra hole coming out the side its the smaller one on the end of this pic.
- i've always gone by the 30 second rule. even a NEW or emptied for winter motor that must completely fill, 30 seconds should be long enough. if it hasnt begun pumping by that point, i turn it off and give it some time to cool while i double check everything. then i might give it a full 45 seconds. but it wont overheat in less then a couple of minutes. and if its not pumping with the hose hooked up, the impeller is probably bad already anyways. however, if you do even get it near warm, its already hotter then you think it is where the heat is produced, the cylinders, and where you have tight clearances on fast moving parts, the cylinders and pistons. and if it gets too hot, major damage is quickly done. BTW, service period on a merc impeller is always 100 hours or 3 years. or NOW, before the motor is damaged, if unsure of when it was last done. when the impeller is less then $50 (and about an hour labor, if paying for it) and a new motor is THOUSANDS, you cant replace it too often. dennis, you have NO clue. i suggest getting one before you ruin the motor in your own boat. and in the meantime, keep your bad advice to yourself.
- Q:Here is the deal...*Van over heats*Blows Cold quot;heatquot;*Coolant leaks (not into the oil)*Added coolant and water (nothing happened)*Started van, felt the hoses (no h2o flowing thru)Ive had this problem for a while. Some times my van drives just fine and heats just fine, then some days it wants to over heat and blow cool quot;heatquot;. Adding coolant to my van used to do the trick, but now its not working. If it is my thermostat that is broke, the water/coolant would still run through the hoses right?I really think its my water pump out, but I am not sure. Does this sound like my water pump? If so, I plan on changing it myself, how do i find step by step instructions to do so.... I have never done it before, but I cant afford to take it to a mechanic! Thanks for your help!
- Again, see last answer to your same question. You obviously dont know what the real problem is, could be water pump and might not be. Instead of wasting over 25.00 on a water pump and that not being the problem, why dont you take it to a reputable repair facility and have the cooling system analyzed and they can tell you EXACTLY what part(s) need replacing, then go from there. Nobody can diagnose your cooling system problem over the internet since we are not at your vehicle with a coolant pressure tester and block test tool.
- Q:my marine engine doesnt pump water can you tell me some faults can be thanks vic
- There are 2 water pumps. One in the stern drive, or mounted on the engine which takes the water your in to cool the engine. The other is a conventional circulating water pump, which is important in fresh water cooled engines . Most often it's the impeller failure.
- Q:To get at the timing belt on a Toyota 3.4L V6, does the water pump first need to be removed? If so, is there a way to tell how worn a water pump with 85,000 miles is? Like a loose bearing feel, etc?
- If you are replacing the timing belt it is recommended you also replace the water pump. They have similar life spans and one has to be removed to replace the other.
- Q:How do you remove it without taking the engine out?
- Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) from the water pump lower tube. Remove the engine mount nuts. Remove the cowl extension panel. Disconnect the water bypass hose and the heater hose from the water pump outlet tube. Remove the water pump outlet tube bolt and position the tube assembly out of the way. Install the lifting eye to the exhaust manifold (9430). Attach engine lifting equipment and raise the engine 127 mm (5 inches). Remove the bolt and the accessory belt idler pulley. Remove the bolts and the generator support bracket. Remove the four bolts and the water pump pulley (8509). Remove the water pump. Remove the five nuts. Remove the five studs. Remove the four bolts. Remove the water pump, lower tube and gasket as an assembly.
