- Q: hi, i want to know about a train‘s suspension system and the way it works,also i want to know if the suspension system can pivot relative to the wagon or not, and if the answer is yes, how it is
- On a bogie carriage or wagon (i.e. a car mounted on trucks) the suspension is built into the bogie frame and on the newer vehicles consists of coil springs while older vehicles have semi-elliptical springs. Hydraulic shock absorbers may also be used. The bogies are compensated, which means that the frame is finely balanced and the sides and ends are moveable which means it can 'flex' to smooth out the ride e.g. when going over points (switches). The suspension is integral to the bogie and pivots with it. Most bogies have a central bearing but on some newer trains there is no central pivot; the superstructure rests on pneumatic pads mounted on each side of the bogie frame. Some trains e.g. the Eurostar are articulated, which means that each 2 carriages share 1 bogie. This means that overall the train weighs less but the bogie has to be specially strengthened to support the weight of the 2 carriages. The 'Pendolino' train has a unique suspension system which allows the train to tilt when going round curves, to compensate for the centrifugal force felt when travelling at high speed. On rigid wheelbase vehicles (of which there are large numbers in the UK and Europe) the axle is supported by coil springs on the newer ones and semi-elliptical springs on the older. Steam locomotives usually have semi-elliptical springs mounted inside the frame for the driving wheels, although a few older ones have outside springs. The bogies and ponies on locomotives such as 'Pacific' and 'Prairie' types have their own integral suspension that pivots with them. On some European locomotives the suspension of the rear and/or front trucks was made integral with that of the front and/or rear driving axle and the axle load of the engine could be adjusted, but this system was not much used in the UK.
- Q: i have an 84 S-10 2wd and i want to put a suspension lift on it but i have a independent front suspension so how can i do it? i dont want to lift it super huge just like a max of 6 inches

- It depends on whether you are raising or lowering the vehicle. If you're lowering it, it requires no change in the drivetrain. If you are raising it to put bigger tires or very large rims that increase weight or grip on the ground (i.e. mud tires), you will have to beef up the transmission. They make a kit to extend the steering linkage.
- Q: I want to use coil spring spacers, but I dont want to fiddle with steering geometry and such.
- You only going to lift the front? Spring spacers will get you 2.5 if you get the 2.5 lift spacer. But it's just as much work as new springs.
- Q: Alright, you know how truck suspension systems have those big springs next to the wheels for extra support? (If not, you can't help me) Well, I just got my S10 used it does have springs in the back one of them fell off. So my step-dad called his mechanic son he said it's still drivable that he doesn't even think it's stock. So I was just wondering if it is, if so, do I need to get it fixed or can I continue driving it without that spring?
- These trucks come with what they call leaf springs in the rear as you describe. Someone had put a thing called helper springs, as they more and likely did towing with it, or carried allot of stuff that made the back end droop. Since one of the helper springs fell out, you can take the other one off, since it will not effect what you do during driving and such.

- not very good you can,t. it will slip or not go at all. the transmission is what turns the wheels when your going forward or reverse.
- Q: I have a 2005 Yukon XL Denali that after about 10 seconds after ignition a medium volume noise starts up and continues for 5-8 seconds then turns off. I know that this is the Air Suspension System pumping up but is this noise normal? Should the sound of the pumps be audible at all? If so, should they be loud enough to hear if you were 10 or 15 feet away and be very noticeable?
- My 04 Denali XL has the same pump noise from day one. It is pretty loud and yes you can hear it from a good 10-15 feet away. If it happens EVERY time you start up then there might be a leak in the system. On my slanted driveway (Front on the uphill side everynight) my truck does NOT engage the auto-level system every day.
- Q: I have a lifted 2001 Gmc sierra 1500hd it has a 6 inch suspension lift with a 3 inch body lift. Recently my left front wheel has been shaking causing really bad vibrations all over. They occur more often at a slower speed such as driving down the street. My tires are worn out pretty badly in the front. i believe I need an alighnment and someone told me my tires are off balance would this explain the strong vibration and the front left wheel shaking or is it something else.
- your tires may be bad but check to make sure that the wheel mount is not bent from the lifting

The spring assembly rests on a seat. The Strut Suspension System helps to cushion the movement of the coil spring when a car hits a bump or a pothole and works to hold the tires to the road and provide better vehicle control. Conventional (Shock Absorber) Suspension System In conventional (Shock Absorber) Suspension Systems, two control arms are attached to the frame of the car and a coil spring and shock absorber are attached to the frame and one of the control arms. The spring and shock absorber work together to smooth the ride of the car over the roughness of the road. This suspension system works to hold the tires to the road and provide better vehicle control.
- Q: Im trying to find a rear drive shaft for my Ford Expediton 97 and found a couple in slavage yards but its asking me what kind of suspsension i have wheter its auto or standard and to be honest i dont have a clue, how would i go about checking this ?
