Q: well i've been asking for quite sometime on the correct wiring of a bathroom fan up to the same circuit as my light in the bathroom but i believe i've figured out. but i have a question now about the wire guage.the wire guage in the house is the standard solid 12 or 14 i think(house built in 50's) and the the wire that came with the bathroom fan looks a little smaller or about same size but it's braided .it should be fine to splice the two right?: It will be fine to wire nut them on there.

Q: I want to connect one of my rear sony speakers along the baseboard to my receiver. The specs say that the wire comes with 4 terminal blocks, with 4 connections on each terminal. My question is what will connect to what? Will the speaker attach the the flat wire cable that will attach to the original speaker cable which will connect to the receiver? It will be much appreciated.: The flat wire is what you run under carpets, along baseboards, etc. The four wires allow you to run a pair of speaker wires (two sets of two) from your receiver to the general location where the speakers will be. The terminal blocks allow you to run regular speaker wires from the receiver to the flat wire. The terminal block at the other end then lets you run speaker wire from a terminal block at the other end of the flat wire to the pair of speakers that wire feeds. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which speaker, as long as you wire it up correctly. That is, you can have the first terminal be the + wire for the first speaker, the second the - wire for that speaker, and the third and fourth wires being the + and - wires for the second speaker.

Q: I have an old house and am replacing a dimmer switch in the kitchen.The old switch is has only 2 wires coming out of the switch that are both black. From the wall 2 wires connect to the 2 black wires on the switch, one is black which I have concluded is hot and the other is red, which must be the common wire. My question is that there is a 3rd wired that is pushed into the electrical box that is capped and not being used. This wire is white. I can only assume that would be a ground wire, but why would it be white in color. Can you tell me what the coloring scheme was for wiring old houses? You should have them checked before you connect something. Black is hot White Neutral Red wires are also used for hot wires, switch legs (like to a ceiling fan), and are the second hot wire in 220-volt installations. Another useful application is the interconnect wire between two hardwired smoke detectors. A ground would be green or bare.

Q: coil wiring diagram: The two small wires are positive and negative. Most are color coded and if it's a OEM part, the negative will be the same color as the group of smaller wires connected to the negative battery cable. Each manufacturer uses different color codes and for instance, Kawasaki uses black with yellow stripe. The other wire will go to the positive side. If the coil doesn't have wire coming out if it, it may have a + or - sign by the terminals. In actuality, it doesn't really matter which way you hook it up because a coil doesn't really care which way the electricity travels. It's the collapsing magnetic field that creates the spark and not the direction or movement of electricity.

Q: i need magnetic wire to make a coil and build aradio: You can often get varnished wire at an outlet such as radio shack. I have also used the yokes of old TV sets that I usually got for free at a local repair shop. I had to carefully unwind the coils. The wire in an automobile ignition coil is another potentially free source. You can purchase electrical insulating varnish as well. Krylon makes an aerosol variety and most others come in a regular can, but you would have to be creative in dipping the wire and suspending it to dry without damaging the coating.

Q: I have a 200 amp main breaker just below my meter, which is mounted on a pole. The neutral wire coming in is run to ground. From this box, I've run 2 cables (1/0) ~80 ft to another box with a 150 amp main breaker. This box is grounded to an 8ft ground rod. I am wondering whether this setup (no neutral wire from meter pole to building) would potentially allow a ground fault without tripping the 200 amp main. For example, if somebody dug into the line with a backhoe? Oh yeah, the cable is in a 3ft deep trench that will be covered. Q: We are replacing an older style submersible 3 wire well pump with a newer style 3 wire plus ground. I do not know where to ground the green wire? Is it necessary to extend the wire from the pump all the way to the top and ground it there or can i just ground it to the pump itself? Any ideas? First time home owner... trying to save money and not call an electrician (Im an avionics technician so I have some what of an idea what im doing.) Thanks: It shouldn't be grounded to back to the pump, it should be brought out and grounded either with the house or a separate grounding rod.

Q: The new light has 1 live, 1 neutral 1 earth wire, do i remove the earth connect the reds if so what about the 2 blacks?: There should be black and white wires in the ceiling. Black is hot, white is neutral. If there is no ground wire, that's OK. You just wouldn't connect the ground wire anywhere.

Q: We bought a used 2004 Chevy Venture that is a cargo style van... it only had a radio in it. So we just bought a Sony car stereo with a cd player to install in it. However, we are having trouble locating the correct wiring harness for the 2004 Venture. We've bought two already for GM vehicles that should technically work for the year of our van, but they do not work. One salesman told us we needed a very expensive wiring harness because it controls the airbags and other electrical gadgets (but they didn't sell it at his store... he said to look online). I've looked online and can't find anything. Would we be better hardwiring it OR does anyone have any experience with a situation like this?
