- Q: How is the line differ from a neutral and ground wires in a three prong plug?
- the bare wire is the ground and goes to the green lug == the black wire goes in the brass screw/lug=== and the white wire then goes in the silver/aluminum looking screw/lug === the purpose of the ground is to act as a safety net to prevent shocks and c
- Q: i know what spark plugs are but what are plug wires and the purpose of getting them. what do the plug wires do? someone told me that it was time to get spark plugs and plug wires replaced on my 2000 impala.
- if they have never been replaced, yes it is a good idea, they transfer the[spark] to the spark plugs [hi energy] so they do wear out.
- Q: I was re-wiring a light switch and a fan control knob and I accidentally cut a wire too short. This wire comes out the front of the fan dial and goes around to the back, connecting to another wire, thus placing a wire nut impossible. Can I just link the two ends together, then seal it with electrical tape? Or do I have to buy a new fan dial (which will cost $25, a cost I'm trying to avoid)? Will just the tape be safe enough?
- You should definitely use wire nuts but your fan dial is totally savable. Just use two wire nuts with a short piece of wire in between the short ends you have. Wire nuts are important because you need to clamp the wires together to get a good amount of conductivity. If you just taped the wires together they would touch but not well enough to make a good low resistance union. Bad connections are high resistance and cause heat and then fires.
- Q: Ceiling lights wire guage
- It may depend on whether you are connecting to an existing circuit or you are running an entirely new one from your panel. If you are connecting to existing circuitry, then you need to check the breaker size. If it is a 15 amp circuit, then #14 is acceptable. If it is a 20 amp, then you must use at least #12. It is very unlikely that you are required to use #10. NEC does not require it for a 20 amp circuit. If you are running a new circuit, then you have your choice. Just make sure that the breaker sizes and wire sizes match as described above. Contrary to the advice of some, it is just fine to run a 15 amp / #14 circuit for lights. The key is to avoid overloading the circuit. If you are just going to add a couple of fixtures, then the 15 amp will be fine. If you are adding 20 recessed can fixtures, you might consider the 20 amp circuit option. If you think that you are going to add more to the new circuit later, consider that when you decide which size to use. The difference comes in working with the wire. #14 is much easier to bend and work with. I certainly would not attempt to use #10 unless you actually do have some weird local codes that require it.
- Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of a bank wire transfer ?
- its just a transfer of funds from one account to another --- usually overseas --- most intracountry transfers can be accomplished online today ---- it depends on how much you need to transfer and to whom --- there are much easier and cheaper ways to transfer funds --- credit cards, international transfers such as western union, international postal orders ---- have fun
- Q: Coming from my ceiling I have a black, a grey, 2 white, 2 bare and a red wire. Coming from my ceiling fan/light fixture is a green, black, black with a white stripe and a white wire. How exactly would I go about wiring this? It is a two switch setup without a remote.Thank you in advance.
- Call the manufacturer about your ceiling fan. It may be designed to work with a light kit. I've done this myself. The grey and red sound like wiring that works with the light kit. The black, white, and green wires are hook to your house wire. (House wire is black, white, and bare (ground)).
- Q: I know that most wire is copper, however, I found this wire that is silver in color. So that got me to thinking, what other metals are used in wire, and, are they all non-magnetic?
- It was made of tin and copper alloy. Outside coated with silver color tin to prevent rusty. This alloy is non magnetic. Other type wire or special cable were made with strand steel + copper like high voltage power line. Or like TV cable uses aluminum jacket shield copper coaxial cable.
- Q: The switches for the ventilation have 6 wires coming out of the ceiling. My ventilation unit has 5 wires. The ceiling has 2 black, 2 red, and 2 white wires. The ventilation unit has yellow, black, white, red, and blue. how do i make the connections?
- Go back to store get the instructions (if they have to, they can rob it from another package or make photocopies of it). Since the colors have that much of a difference, it probably be your best bet to hire an electrician for it. Check with several for rough estimates and for how soon.
- Q: Wires in the dash*Radio constant*Radio Switched*Radio illumination**please match these up with the options below**Wires on the stereo itself*Dashboard Light Dimmer Switch*Amplifier Remote or Power Antenna (Positive +)*(fuze) yellow memory (negative -)*(fuze) red 12v (positive +)if someone could please help that would be great-since the wires were replaced i cant go by color
- Car radio wire constant to stereo yellow memory. Car radio wire switched to stereo red 12v positive. Car radio wire illumination to stereo Dashboard Light Dimmer Switch. Don't forget to ground the black wire on the unit to the ground wire from the car harness. An extra ground strap to the chassis is a good idea also. If you don't have an amp or a power antenna, cap off the blue Remote/Antenna wire.
- Q: ok...all the wires in my quot;atticare encased in this silver metal casing....when i opened a bathroom wall...the wires were also like that.....at the fuse box...they all leave like that........sooooo, can i assume all my wires are encased like that? does that make them pretty safe from rodents chewing? (yup-been watching Billy the Exterminator) why were they done like that? tx for any info....
- In the U.S. it WAS called BX and is now called MC, standing for metallic clad. (If the lines are flex-able). This stuff was used to protect from damage. This is usually used in commercial applications, but is perfectly legal (if the proper connectors were used) in residential applications. It sounds like you are doing a remodel. If so, you will need a EXPERIENCED electrician to modify the runs for you. Don't let anyone tell you it is against code. It is simply overkill.
