Q: I need these values for 400 KVa and 150 KVa plants in order to run an air pollution computer simulation. Thanks!. Volumetric flow is not useful for me,because i don't have any information about flow areas or diameters.
This is a difficult question to answer accurately. The velocity of the exhaust gas is highly dependent on the size of the exhaust pipe. A smaller exhaust pipe, a much higher velocity --- a larger exhaust pipe, a much slower exhaust gas velocity. A 2 exhaust pipe would have about 2.25 times the velocity of a 3 pipe. The exhaust velocity is highly dependent as well on the RPM of the generator. Double the RPM, and there is much higher pressure, and much higher exhaust gas velocity. An attached article mentions that the exhaust velocity in some unspecified gasoline powered car --- and at some unspecified RPM --- is about 240 to 260 feet per second. autolounge /tech/exhaust.html

Q: I was offered a job in the same general posistion for a YOUNG company that has offered me 15.00 more a hour, lead position, training in a differnt brand of the same product I work on and, basicly the freedom to choose my own hours (avg. 40-55 hrs). Or do I stay where I am at were I have some stabability, lead position, unstable hours (avg. 40-65 hrs plus nights away from home/family), possabilities of advancment and, a since of loyalty to bosses. Note: I worked hard to get where I am at, however, my current knowledge is the bases for new job. WHAT DO I DO????????????
It all depends on you. If you want to get paid more and have more free time with your family then choose the new job but if you want to have a stable job and not have as much time with your family then stay with your job. If i was you I would go to the new job but thats just me.

Detroit diesel used 2 cycle engines in the 50's and up. They may still use them, I'm not sure. 2 cycle engines does not always mean you mix oil in the fuel. It means the engine fires every stroke, not every other stroke, (4cycle engines) The most common series I'm familiar with is the 53 and 71 series.

It will depends upon the maintencence / operation / safty precautions taken by tghe user. i think the diesel gen is batter than the gas genreratoe.

Well. first insight. If by new you mean the 1940s you are dead nut. Pretty ALL of the trains you see are diesel electric and have been since the 1950s. Here's how any Fuel-electric system works: You have a fuel. In the case of a diesel engine your fuel is Any stable liquid that burns. You burn that fuel in a chamber of some kind such that you create a physical motion. Pistons and cranks is the rule of thumb. You take that motion usually in the form of rotation, and you use it to move a magnet past a coil of wire. A magnet moving past a coil produces electricity, which you can now use to drive an electric motor, or charge batteries, or play Youtube or whatever. Diesel engines have a huge advantage over traditional internal combustion engines, (although diesel came first by like 12,000 years :). They require no spark, and they can burn darn near anything. The whole concept of a Diesel engine is that when you compress something, it heats up. If what you are compressing is flammable, and you compress it enough, it will ignite and burn. This turns out to be exactly true, and why you can run your 1982 VL Golf Diesel on a bottle of corn oil in a pinch.
Q: I know about solar panels and wind turbines but either will have to be above ground. Petrol or diesel generators are to loud and fuel isn't cheap these days.
Hello Rig up an auto alternator to an exercise bike running a belt off the bike wheel to the alternator, connect ? to a couple of good 12 volt batteries (deep cycle boat batteries would be best) wired in parallel from battery to an inverter of around 500 to 750 watts this will be enough for lighting, radio, and small toaster. Now of course you will need to set up an exercise routine for running the alternator but you will keep very fit and if their is a few you can take turns and all keep very fit! If you could get more batteries and larger inverter you would be able to run a small kettle as it's only on for minutes so batteries would cope. Regards Alan
Q: I want to build a deisel generator that electrolizes water to make oxygen and hydrogen to increase fuel efficiency. Then I want to make an algae bioreactor and extract the fuel from the algae to power my diesel generator. What is the smallest engine that can support this? Do I need fuel injection or can the oxyhydrogen come in through the air intake? As I understand with oxyhydrogen added you can acquire a 100% fuel efficiency.
I'll guess HOH can be used, with all sizes of diesel and gasoline motors, likely even in gas turbine motors and jet engines, BUT it as near zero utility for any of them. Even the fractional hp model airplane motors should work. More than a pint of HOH Brown's gas is a serious explosion hazard, so be sure production is reduced while the motor is idling.
Q: I was talking with a friends and I know gas in a car or lawnmower etc will go bad after a certain amount of time. Then we got thinking about the massive amounts of diesel fuel in storage at hospitals etc, is there a storage life for it? and is it turned over all the time?
Scott: Since Diesel has a much lower vapor pressure than gasoline(7lbs/PSI) by far it is judged by flash point(under 130F degrees Properly stored(moisture and air is prevented from entering the tank) it can be stored almost indefinitely. These are the contaminates which degrade and evaporate regular gasoline. As gasoline evaporates( little or no problem with diesel at ambient temperatures) it leaves residues which form gums. In refineries and other business having sources of ignition, diesel is the prefered fuel for running equipment because is far less hazardous than gasoline which has a high vapor pressure and low ignition point, even a spark can set it off.
Q: for electricity
Running a generator of any kind or size will cost you more than your local utility company charges per day. A generator is usually a emergency or standby situation and not ment for long term use.
