- Q: I just recently had my floors changed from carpet to parquet (that wood-looking surface). It looks great but I don't want the chairs for my dining table to scratch it up. What can I put on the legs of the chair to keep it from making that scratchy noise and messing up the parquet (something that looks GOOD [no tennis balls please])
- Rob S. has covered it pretty well. I would add however that the adhesive on the felt pads tend not to be the best, so one of two things usually happen. One-After you push back from the table a couple of times after a large meal the pads will shift off-center from the legs. Two - After a year or two the adhesive dries out and the felt no longer sticks. I find a couple of tricks work very well to help these inevitable issues. Make sure the tips of the chairs are clean. Then use some low grit sandpaper and rough up the tip. Again clean the tip to remove all dust. Apply the felt and put weights on the seat for at least 24 hours. Or (and this worked best for me) I used a small drop of construction adhesive to permanently affix the felt to the tips. Hopes this helps.
- Q: I've heard that it's good to replace your office chair with a large yoga ball. It's suppose to work out your back and abs while sitting. Is this true, or rumor?
- those little green balls? oh you ment YOGA NOT YODA
- Q: I have a chair with a broken back, it can be detached from the rest of the chair and has a metal piece that goes into the padded/cloth part of the back.
- Chairs can be a bear to fix. Depending on what piece broke, it usually indicates metal fatigue from low quality steel used at high stress points (an engineering short-sight). On those kinds of chairs I just take off the broken pieces (arms, if any) and use the bottom as a roll around stool, cause fixing them only redistributes the stress load to another weak spot. They can be handy in the shop for working on the car (waxing the lower half and polishing the mags, etc.)
- Q: manual wheel chair

- Q: I have a stupid fear of electric chairs due to some bad dreams about sitting in one. I'm not a bad person in the death row or anything; I just have an irrational fear. I can't even look at an image of an electric chair without getting nauseous or fainting. Because of this I don't really like sitting in any chairs. Help me! :(
- Well first of all I don't believe your fear of sitting in an electric chair is abnormal. You couldn't tempt me into one either! It was used as a symbol for death for many many years here in the US. It was held up as the ultimate price one would pay for doing something serious against the law. So the fear was ingrained in us even as little folks. I don't know your age, but my generation sure wanted nothing to do with the electric chair, and all the ugliness that goes with it. Do you have a fascination with death, as I notice the name you use here on YAN is Korpsie, and that is like asking for trouble. Why would you entertain such a name, when you claim to be afraid of the electric chair? It doesn't jive! It doesn't make sense to me. Your fear, or fascination, with death has overtaken your belief system. It has frightened you so much you are not even willing to sit in ordinary chairs. That is the irrational fear (not the electric chair!) Try to desensitize yourself by allowing yourself to sit in a sofa, or couch, and then move on to a few minutes in a chair, and then keep on doing that until your fear eventually goes away. You may need some therapy to deal with this problem. You spoke of bad dreams about electrical chairs. You know dreams are symbolic? Try to remember your exact dream, as then we can ferret out the real reason you are afraid of an electric chair. Earlier in your Life were you electrocuted by live wires of some sort? Something happened to make you very wary of electricity. Try hard to remember what it was, and then tell it to take a hike, because it's messing with your Life. OK? Good luck to you!
- Q: hey..guys i need an idea for making a crazy chair for example a butterfly as the sitting part nd there cud be a lighting bulb under it.....plz give ideas
- have it like a ninja because ninjas are totally cool. it can be totally black with an opening for the eyes.
- Q: Whish is most real the chair you are sitting on, the molecules that make up the chair, or the sensations and images you have of the chair as you are sitting on it?
- When people make statements like atoms are mostly empty space, therefore things are mostly made of nothing, they are vastly oversimplifying the issue. It is gravity and electromagnetism that give things their apparent solidity, so whether something is solid because it is made of dense atoms (lead) or solid because it is made of less dense molocules (carbon) it is still a real object to us. This is how our senses are adapted to experience reality. Drop a lead canon ball on your foot, and then debate the reality of the object. If, on the other hand, you were to experience reality at a different frequency in the electromagnetic spectrum (lets say in the range of gamma radiation) most everything would seem porous to you. A chair wouldn't even exist because you'd walk right through it. The reality in our heads is entirely based upon the energy frequencies our bodies have adapted to sensing. We hear sound energy in a certain range. We see light energy in a certain range. We feel physical objects in a certain range of electromagnetism gravity. Real objects are real whether we experience them as solid constructs with physical dimensions, charged particles, or sensory input translated into the firing of synapses. If our senses don't register the chair, that doesn't mean the chair ceases to exist. This whole transient reality concept is a oft entertained subject in quantum physics... does reality exist only because their are observers observing it? My guess is that even though some tests indicate that subatomic particles can be affected by observing them, I think reality would go happily along its way regardless of whether there were life forms in the universe or not.
- Q: I'm going to Ober Gatlinburg in a week with my church group. I am really afraid of heights. We are going to ski ( which I have never done before.), ice skating ( never done that either), and other things. We have to go on the chair lift and I am so scared. What is it like? Is any of this hard? Any tips? Help!
