- Q: I am replacing my vanity sink with a Pedestal sink. I turned the shut off vales to the off position tight.I disconnected the cold water and drained the remaining water and everything was fine. I disconnected the hot and drained the water from the connecting tube but water still came out of the shut off valve at a decent pace.I placed my finger over the valve and i felt pressure build up...like when you stick your finger over a bottle of soda.I tightened the bolt on the valve and even the screw to the handle to no resolve.any ideas on how to make it stop while i connect the Pedestal sink?also, i am as novice as it gets.thanks in advance
- It's not the packing nut seal since that only seals the stem which is attached to the handle. There is an inner washer attached to that stem which shuts off the water, this is probably worn and needs replacement. Do not attempt to change this valve, leave it to a professional because it's not an easy thing to do, unless you're good at soldering. Shut off the main water supply that services the whole house. Also note: If you don't have wood behind the sheet rock from your existing vanity, you'll be in trouble, because the Pedestal must be bolted to the wall to be secure otherwise it's a safety hazard.
- Q: Chev 350 in marine use. Made horiffic exhaust noise, especially with increasing throttle. Cam seems fine still, but the rocker on #5 exhaust was somewhat off to the side but still touching the side of the valve stem...but stem bent. What would cause this and is this the cause of the loud combustion sound (like a spark plug out of it's hole?
- You have several problems here! First of all lets dispense with the marine part, -- which is mostly cooling system conversion! A bent valve -- probably reason for popping, - it is most likely bent inside from striking (being struck) by piston with some possible small piece of metal between top and valve, -- this could be a simple as a piece of broken piston ring, or maybe a screw or nut that has fallen down in intake system some time,- and just now sucked into combustion chamber! Clearance between piston and head not really large when piston all the way up! In order to repair, you need to remove the head and have valve taken out, -- which will probaly require new valve guide replacement! As for rocker arm, it may or may not be involved in actual origional problem! I would have head all checked over to make sure that it is ok,-- as foreign objects inside engine can ruin head also! Now if this is a high time engine, It might be a good idea to pull other head off also, as you have to remove stuff on top and intake manifold to get other one off again, -- (if it has problems later)! The loud noises may have been piston still banging on valve, -or exhaust gasses popping out when ingniton occoured because of valve not seating, -- you could also have bent intake valve, just not as bad, -- and gas popping back out through intake system also!
- Q: We need to replace our erg valve, but we cannot locate it.
- i'm no longer attentive to that style. some cam sensors are on the front of the engine. some are under the valve conceal. My advice could be, to call the save that offered you the sensor and ask them or call a dealership. in many cases they are satisfied to help. grasp tech 40 yrs.
- Q: I own a 2001 Chevy cavalier Z24 with a dual cam... Just got it tuned up and noticed oil in my spark plug sockets, which leaves me to assume either the valve cover gaskets or the cam carrier gasket is leaking oil... I would prefer to so this by myself considering I'm sure it's going to be costly.. Anyone have any ideas on how I go about replacing either?
- valve cover shouldn't be that much of a problem as long as you have some basic tools and some mechanical ability. Take it that its a 4 cylinder car, the size of the motor is very helpful when looking for tips. Just don't over torque your bolts when replacing. 89 in lbs is about normal on gm's valve covers
- Q: My chevy s-10 pickup automatic is shifting rough from 1st to 2nd, gives the truck a bump when shifts. Tech says I likely need a valve body replacement. He also indicated I could drive this for a while if I wanted. What more can happen if I prolong replacement? Truck is still at a fair blue book value and I'm wondering if I should sell it now. I have been very lucky in not having to sink any $ aside from normal wear and tear into it, so for me to have it replaced is the first $ investment. I have 103k miles for 2000. Anyone else in a sim sitch, or having multiple problems at this mileage as well? I'm wondering if this is the begininng of the end?
- Chevrolet did have a bad problem with valve body wearing out the bore where the valve rides. I would recommend you replace the valve body too, unless it has high milage and the transmission has never been overhauled. Then I would say sell it now! They also have a problem with the reaction shell breaking or stripping and causing a no reverse problem. Those usually go out around 150,000 to 170,000 miles. So if your in that range, and you haven't had it rebuilt or you don't want to spend the money to rebuild it. I would recommend you selling it now.
- Q: Where is the Canister vent shut valve located on a 2003 honda crv
- difficult step. try searching in search engines like google. that will can help!
- Q: My sump pump shut-off valve is very noisey. I wrapped insulation around it, but it still clunks. The clunk can keep me awake.
- If you mean the discharge check valve, it will clunk when the level switch trips the pump. The head or weight of the water trying to flow back into the crock causes the check valve to slam closed, making a clunking sound. This is pretty common and normal.
- Q: I am a junior piping engineer. I want to know what is the meaning of term Triple Eccentric in Triple Eccentric Butterfly ValveButterfly Valve. So kindly enlighten me.
- Good question but I think I found your answer. Hope this helps. Triple eccentric means:- 1)First eccentric is the offset between the shaft centre line and the disc trunnion centre line. 2)Second eccentric is the offset between the body centre line and the disc centre line. 3)The third and the most important is the eccentric in the sealing(multiple) itself such that if you draw a imaginary contour line between the sealing shape vs the body centre,It becomes a cone with one side flat on surface.(I hope my words are clear enough to make you understand). The reason for this shape is because it gives better sealing ability for the valve.eg:- Fire safe valves are triple eccentric valves which are also called pyrogenic valves. The sealings are multiple in nos. and together they form a pyrogenic shape therefore this sealing is also called pyrogenic sealing.
- Q: i have this valve and its really stiff i was wondering if there's a way to loosen it up a little its a KBI Ball Valve baught at Ace hardware and it looks like their might be a way of adjusting it i just dont know how
- tap it lightly with a hammer while turning it
- Q: This trumpet has been in storage in its casing untouched for about 5 years. I took it out and tried to play it but only air comes out and no sound. The 2nd and 3rd valves are hard to push down. What do I do to fix it? Thanks!
- take the valves out and lightly apply some vegetable oil to free them up.
