- Q:A diesel-powered generator with a cost of $145,000 and estimated residual value of $7,000 is expected to have a useful operating life of 75,000 hours. During July, the generator was operated 150 hours. Determine the depreciation for the month.
- 145,000 - 7000 132,000 / 75000 1.76 per hour July 150 hours x 1.76 per hour rate $264 Keep in mind I rounded the $1.76 but if you follow this procedure it will get you where you want to be. I hope this helps and wish you all the best. good luck
- Q:I have a 3 bedroom / 1 bath home. It is just 2 of us in the house. Also, I've heard that there is way to plug your generator into any wall outlet and it will charge your whole house. Any truth to this?
- A 10 Kw unit should be enough. Remember you're only going to use it during a commercial power outageyou'll only run essential appliances during that time. Yes, you can plug the generator into any of your house's outletsbut the power company asks that you don't, because the electricity will also run back up the utility lines and could endanger people working to restore commercial power. A qualified electrician can install a proper receptacle into which you feed power from your generator and does not risk harming the linesmen.
- Q:If i had a remote alaskan town of 1000 residents, how much power would I need to generate to run the whole town. Would a diesel generator work?
- A mine can take a *LOT* of power. If it were just the people, and they were not used to electrity, maybe a MegaWatt would be enough, for a while at least. Since you would be burning diesel to make the electricity, price would be high. You might want to get firm contracts that somebody would buy all you generate.
- Q:A couple years ago the power in our area was out for two whole weeks because of ice and such, we stayed warm thanks to gas heating but now I'm in an all electric mobile home in the same area. All I want to power is the refrigerator, deep freeze, microwave, one laptop and at least one, maybe two little plug in heaters.I need to know what size/type generator to get and if I need a separate kit or anything in order to hook up to my mobile home. I don't want to buy the wrong type or size and find out it doesn't work in the middle of an ice storm again.Thank you for any and all help, it's very much appreciated.
- Add the power for each item, total watts for each and then double it for the size of the generator. I suspect at least a 10 kw unit. The heaters will use a lot of power next is the refrigerator and the deep freeze. The microwave will need to be inspected for size but usually they run on 15 amps at 120 volts and can draw down the output of the generator when they start. You will need a transfer switch and the proper installation and inspection of it to your power panel and possibly need to notify the local power company that you have the back up generator wired into the unit. Electric heat on a generator is not a good idea rather try to get a fossil fuel heat source that vent to the open air, this will allow a smaller generator to be used. I suggest you consult a local qualified professional electrician to do the work so they can properly size and install the package.
- Q:If you send me a link to where the lyrics to Corey Feldman's song former child star I will give you the ten points. I kind of looked for it but I dont really have the chance right now so if you find a valid link or know the lyrics please mark it down for me, thanks! By the way I am pretty sure the song is called Former Child Star but I might be off, it was supposed to be about MJ I guess and I am curious about what it says, thanks!
- kc - Here is what I found: Green is the Colour We made history at Universal CityWalk (Universal Studios Hollywood). For the first time ever, a CityWalk concert was Off the Grid! A bio-diesel generator was graciously supplied by @POWER to provide us with alternative energy to power the lights and the sound required. Thank you to Universal CityWalk, @POWER, Green Team, Team Feldman and all of the fans who made it a very special event. Truth Movement dedicated the show to the 'King of Pop' Mr. Michael Jackson. coreyfeldman /index2.html
- Q:I was offered a job in the same general posistion for a YOUNG company that has offered me 15.00 more a hour, lead position, training in a differnt brand of the same product I work on and, basicly the freedom to choose my own hours (avg. 40-55 hrs). Or do I stay where I am at were I have some stabability, lead position, unstable hours (avg. 40-65 hrs plus nights away from home/family), possabilities of advancment and, a since of loyalty to bosses. Note: I worked hard to get where I am at, however, my current knowledge is the bases for new job. WHAT DO I DO????????????
- Get yourself a piece of paper and draw a line down the middle. Write on the top of each side current job or possible job and then list the benefits and drawbacks about each position so you know exactly what you think of each. Take this information and speak with someone you trust who doesn't have a direct role in this decision - a parent, brother, sister, or friend. Your spouse/significant other should be consulted about this decision, but sometimes it also helps to speak with someone who isn't directly impacted by your decision. If money is the deciding factor, go with the new position. It also sounds as if you can make more money working less hours and have more time with your family. How are the benefits at each company? If the cost of health care is more at the new company versus the old one or is not as good of coverage you might consider staying if healthcare coverage is a major factor for you. Let's face it, in this day and age no job is stable and guaranteed, even if you own your own company.
- Q:Hi. I'm thinking about getting a 15KVA Cummins generator.I want to know how many hours can I run a Diesel Generator before I have to give it a rest? How many hours do I need to rest it before I can get it started again. I live in a hot and dusty area.I have heard that Diesel engines are happier if they are just kept running and they hate being turned off and on, is that true?Any help or insight would be appreciated.Greetings from Iran
- you need to read the documentation. No such thing as a diesel that runs forever All engines need fluids checked. In generators, there is prime power and standby power. Your warranty will be different for each type. The prime units can run for very long times, but are more expensive and have oil adding systems, etc to automoatically maintain levels and things like that. The diesel engine can be shhutdown and restartted like a gas engine. The turbo and starter motor are the real reasons for not doing short starts and stops. Also, how much load/environment you put on the generator makes a difference in how long it can run too. They can run for a long time as long as they are checked and maintained.
- Q:I need a generator that will power alot of stuff, preferably cheap as possible, or any other power source of that kind.it will need to power about 5 normal appliances and a 600w bulbany ideas
- Cheap as possible - go Chinese if you want to use it once a year and don't care if it goes paf at any time. Honda makes some good units if you want quality and back up. You need to add up the power draw of your five normal applications and your 600w lighting load. Add 25% and the unit will be adequate. If your appliances have induction motors you will have to have at least three times the rated power of the motor(s) to get them to start safely. If you need more than 3000 watts of constant power you should consider diesel, for longevity go for slow speed i.e.1500 or 1800 rpm engine speed. Price will range from $400 for a 2500w Chinese thingy up to at least $14,000 for a fully enclosed automatic 12KvA super silenced slow speed diesel unit on a slide. Running costs get high with the bigger petrol units. Inverters are good, but you will still have to generate power some how for the batteries - wind, water, solar, generator etc. Will be more expensive to set up but will be better long term for a cabin or similar. I'll tack on a couple of links below. Good luck.
- Q:I want to place a quiete genarator which is about 7kva. Will it disturb people in my apartment? We usually make a lot noise in the building. But doesn't sound a lot also?
- a 7kva generator isnt even that quiet. i know they say quiet but theres only so much you can do. why do you need a generator anyways? and yeah it probably would disturb the people in your apartment.
- Q:I am looking for a portable propane generator primarily as a home backup. I have a couple models in mind but have no clue about the quality. they seem to have good reviews, but wanted to ask in here anyways. i'm looking at the Sportsman GEN7000LP or Powerland PD3G8500E Tri-Fuel. anyone have experience with either of these? or can recommend a similarly capable brand/model?
- Why a propane unit? Propane cost more per gallon that gasoline or diesel. If you have access to natural gas it would make more sense.
