- Q: For my botany class, we're supposed to find 1 sample of plant each from 10-12 different families, press them, and mount them. They are due this Thursday (3 days from now).I had already pressed all the plants needed well ahead of time using the plant press with straps and newspaper. I waited about a week to for them to dry fully, and they were all nice and flat - but someone thought they were trash and threw them away! I should have hid them in my room, but obviously it's too late for that.Now I gathered more plants to replace them, but I don't think I have enough time to press them normally. I heard that I can place foil on top of each individual plant and use a clothes iron to flatten and dry them quickly. Will this work? It doesn't need to be a work of art, it just needs to be recognizable and intact for mounting. Thanks for any advice - it's much appreciated.
- I remember once reading about somebody using a microwave to accelerate the drying time of pressed plants, however I've never tried it. You could try googling this technique. I would think that the heat might cause discoloration because plants are very sensitive to that sort of thing. In any case, I would think that using a big, heavy, book-the bigger the better-like a dictionary, would work better than a newspaper. I normally press my plants in big books like this, and then put a big stack of books on top of them, and stomp a few times on it for good measure. It presses the moisture out of them and the paper absorbs it. Some papers absorb better than others, for example laminated paper doesn't work well at all for this. The trick is to get the moisture out as quickly as possible. So you can try this, let it dry a few hours, maybe take it out and put it on a new dry page, to speed up the process a little. It's like wringing out a wet towel in a way. I don't know how thick the plants you are trying to press are, but the ones I press usually dry overnight.

- Establish your max. An easy way is to do 5 reps to failure and look on a bench press chart (google) to find your theoretical max press. Keep good form, once you know your max do a bench pyramid system (google). Before your max set, do something you can do for 5 reps and strive for 6, its okay if you dont hit 6 but have someone help you do a forced rep on your last one. Pyramid down the same one you went up. If you did your max easily, add on 2 or 3 pounds and try to get a new max rep high. If you are under 25, you should be able to do a 3on 1off system. Example: Chest, tris shoulders on Monday: Back Bis on Tues: Legs on Wed: rest Thurs: start chest, tris and shoulders again on Friday. Every 4th workourt on try to use dumbells for movements, this will help with strength as well as confuse your body. Just remember not to max out every workout, volume is good, but keep it around 10 sets per bodypart, overtraining is something you do not want encounter, trust me. Strive for 30 to 40 grams of protein every three hours and drink alot of water. Supplement with creating an glutamine if you want. Keep in mind there is no need to load creatine, 5grams works just as well starting out and as maintenance. Make sure you go off creatine and glutamine after 30 days, best to cycle, there is such thing as too much of a good thing. Best of luck!
- Q: in gym i am able to do a flat bench press of up to 40-45kg.....20-25kg feels like nothing.....but i am not able to do push ups ...maximum i have done in my life is 20 pushups on some lucky day...if i am doing 5 pushups rather 2 push up they does not feel effortless ....my first push up will feel like i am doing 100th....why is it so.....?i read some where that it is because of unbalanced training ...but on Wikipedia i found that both exercise target almost same muscle group...can some one clarify???
- Yes, bench press and push ups do use the same muscles - chest, triceps, deltoids. In essence it is a very similar movement - pushing your arms away from yourself. It's hard to say why you aren't able to do push ups as well as bench press but nevertheless you can improve you srenght in push ups by doing them the easy way first. The easy way being - you in a push up position but your knees on the ground as this will make it a bit easier. I'd say complete as many reps as you can for 3-4 sets this should make you gradually stronger and you soon will be able to do more regular push ups.
- Q: I'm 16 years old i weigh 170 lbs and my max bench press is 145 lbs i would like to get up to at least 170 lbs by at least a couple of weeks what workout plan would help to quickly increase my max bench press?i also do take protein shakes but i have not seen much results from them
- I doubt you'll be able to get your max up to 170 THAT fast, but the best strength routine for bench(or any lift) is the 5x5 routine. You'll do 5 sets of increasing weight each time. For you and your max, I'd try this- Warm up set- empty bar, or maybe a lil weight. Set 1- 85x5 Set 2- 95x5 Sets 3-5- 105x5 Then throw in more reps if you feel like you can do it; and lower weight if necessary. Be sure and fully heal your soreness before you do another chest day, and you should see results! As the weight and reps get easier, just add more. Work hard, and if you don't notice results right away, remember that progress doesn't come instantly! Good luck!
- Q: Like, if your husband or friend hit you and someone else called the police but you didn't want to press charges, could they still be arrested? (Assuming NO ONE presses charges or whatever it's called)Oooor can you get arrested if someone ELSE who witnessed the event presses charges for you (If that's possible)? - People are under this misconception that people are the ones to press charges, when in fact it is the police that press the charges. Police tend to want the opinion of the victim, but if there is evidence to prove this could have occurred, the police are the ones that actually press the charges, not the person that is the victim. As others have stated, most states now have a law that states if a domestic disturbance has occurred, someone (typically the male) must be arrested, regardless of whether the victim wants to press charges or not. This is because police were getting sick of being called out to these disturbances and the victim not wanting to press charges. A simple resolution to not wanting to press charges is to not call the police in the first place... although I would personally advise against that. A witness cannot press charges. If a murder takes place and the police can pinpoint who the likely suspect is, that person will be arrested, no doubt about it. Once the officer presses the charges, the state officially charges the person and the state is the one that convicts, not the victim.

- You can press them in any heavy book that you don't mind the risk of staining. If you don't have a book like that, you can sandwich each leaf between two sheets of waxed paper.

- I haven't maxed on anything in a while, a little stronger now but my most recent 1RMs are: bench - 370 squat - 555 curl - gotta go with Mr. P on this one, no one maxes on curls and that's inviting injury barbell mil press - not something i've maxed on but i would hazard to say probably around 200-205, i can rep out 155 10 times to the chest. weight 222-223

- I use a Bodum Chambord. I have an 3- and a 12-cup model. They are measured in espresso cup sizes so the 3-cup model is actually more like 1 regular coffee. I like the glass models, but that or stainless is your choice. Although you should get stainless if anyone around it is a klutz. The French press is also very useful for making tea (I use my 3-cup for that work).

- How are you gripping and where on the bar are you gripping. When you come down with the bar, it should be on your nipple line and press up and slightly back, almost like an arch. You WILL almost always feel your shoulders being worked on BP, but the pain should not set it. I would lower the weight and work my way back up by getting more strength. Simply pyramid. For example 135lbs x 12 reps 145lbs x 10 reps 155lbs x 8 reps 165x 6 reps 145 x Failure This exact routine will help build strength and size and will give you a nice pump to engorge those muscles with blood and nutrients, meaning if you eat a meal or take a protein shake right after, it will easily be delivered into the muscle fibers. This is just an example, do it to YOUR OWN strength levels. Don't try and be braveheart on the first set because the rest of your regiment will fail. Good luck.
