- Q: My parents bought our house two years ago. It was remodeled by the previous owners, and they cut a lot of corners just to sell the house faster. We were unaware of this when we bought it, and we soon found a bunch of mistakes.We have berber carpet in beige. I absolutely hate this carpet and so do my parents. We have three dogs and they track in mud sometimes. It is hard to clean. Plus, my dogs seem to think they can dig through our floors, so they unravelled the berber carpet outside my bedroom door.What is the best carpet for us? - When it comes to carpeting no one can tell you what is best. All I can do is recommend things. Your life style w/ 3 dogs I suggest more hard surface's w/ maybe area rugs. Hard surfaces such as laminate, vinyl, or ceramic tiles. But you asked about carpet. With dogs berbers of any kind are not good, this includes low nap commercial carpeting.I suggest you go look at multi tone carpets that dont show dirt are readily as a solid color. To help keep it looking good you ll need to have it professionally cleaned at least once a year.When shopping look for stain resistant carpet that the stain blocker is treated into the yarn when its made , not after the carpet is made..Look at major manufacturers , such as Shaw and Mohawk. - first off, i gotta say this: you are a brave woman having beige carpets and a mechanic in the same house! i avoid buying anything light colored for that very reason. to remove the grease though: Dawn dish soap. it is great stuff! just take the Dawn, mix a tablespoon or so in you sink and add like 1/2 an inch of water. swish it around with your hand to get it super bubbly. take a damp sponge and scoop it through the bubbles. rub the bubbles into the stain really good getting more bubbles periodically. let them sit for about 20 minutes, get your carpet shampooer out if you have one, and use that to rinse the spot. if not, use a rag and warm water. you might have to do it a few times, but that has gotten grease out of my carpets on more than one occasion. Gojo works pretty good too, or fast orange, or whatever he scrubs up with at work, but the pumice is hard to get out of the carpet, so look for one with no grit. the Gojo works great on greasy work clothes though, with or without the grit. (with grit works great on denim.)

- Your are right Abigail! A rug is indeed a carpet. In some countries there is a difference, a carpet is considered to cover the full flooring of a room, whereas a rug is used to cover a portion of a floor, more of a decorative method. - Q: Yesterday morning the toilet supply line to our toilet burst, and as a result we had crazy flooding. I would say close to half the carpet in our 2 bedroom apartment was drenched, with the neighbors downstairs getting a lot of the extra water.Anyways, they have removed a lot of the padding and set up fans under the carpet to dry it. Here almost two days later the carpet is close to dry, but this places reeks of that lovely mildew smell.....Everyone I have talked to said they should have just replaced the carpet. Do you think we can request they do it if the smell persists?
- No, it isn't their fault. If anything, it's your fault. They probably will replace it but you will have to play for it. While you are living in someone else's house, you are responsible for most of the stuff which goes wrong.

- Doing a room that size , you ll need a pc of carpet at least 12x28 to cover that area because of seaming. You may need more if there is a pattern . This is done with a 1/4 turn to make the least amount of carpet and some carpets you can t do that. 12x28 is 336 s/f or 37.333 s/y. But carpet is actually sold by the s/f and not s/y. Can be advertised on a sale tag as s/y but MUST be sold per s/f. But given those numbers, it ll cost 933.33$ plus pad and installation if that isn t an installed price.
