- Q: Phone wire outside was old is anybody done that, do it your self put a new wire on?, Just curious to know..
- The wire comes down or up to a connection box. This is the place separating yours from theirs. Anything on your side of that is yours and you are responsible for maintaining it. Changing it is not difficult. You need some wire, fittings and a tool to attach the fittings. The peiople who sell that should be glad to explain how to do what. Most of the connection boxes now use a plug-in connector so it becomes a piece of cake. If the wire toward the street from there is the problem, just report it and a staticky phone. That is the phone company's problem.
- Q: I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer lt and i was trying to see if anyone knows what color is what for the radio harness i want to straight wire my aftermarket cd player in because the harness is 100 dollars to buy. if anyone can tell me which wire goes to where by color or know of a good diagram i would appreciate it.

- Q: the plug only has room for black, red, ground wire.. what do i do with the white wire
- There okorder /... is a 3 wire plug used for 208 or 240v (there is no 220v in the US). It has two hots (gold screws) and a ground (green screw). A typical 10-3 cord has a black white and green white, connect the green wire to the green screw and the black and white wires to the gold screws. An L6-30 is not compatible with devices that have a 240/120v configuration that use both 240v and for 120v and need a neutral connection, for this you would need to use a 4 wire L14-30. Also be aware there are some special rules about ranges and clothes dryers, please update you question if that's what you are dealing with.
- Q: A wire has resistance 56.8 ohms. If another wire consists of the same material but has twice the length and half the diameter of the first, what is the resistance of the 2nd wire?
- The two wires are composed of the same material, so we can concern ourselves solely with their respective dimensions. The second wire has half the diameter of the first, which means a cross section of the second wire has only 1/4th the cross-sectional area of the first wire (the area of a circle being proportional to the square of the diameter). The second wire is also twice as long as the first wire. Since electrical resistance is inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the wire and directly proportional to the length of the wire, we must have the resistance of the second wire to be 1/(1/4)*2*56.8 = 4*2*56.8 = 8*56.8 = 454.4 ohms

- Q: ok...all the wires in my quot;atticare encased in this silver metal casing....when i opened a bathroom wall...the wires were also like that.....at the fuse box...they all leave like that........sooooo, can i assume all my wires are encased like that? does that make them pretty safe from rodents chewing? (yup-been watching Billy the Exterminator) why were they done like that? tx for any info....
- In the U.S. it WAS called BX and is now called MC, standing for metallic clad. (If the lines are flex-able). This stuff was used to protect from damage. This is usually used in commercial applications, but is perfectly legal (if the proper connectors were used) in residential applications. It sounds like you are doing a remodel. If so, you will need a EXPERIENCED electrician to modify the runs for you. Don't let anyone tell you it is against code. It is simply overkill.
- Q: I bought a chandelier from Ikea and I am having trouble wiring it. The colors do not match the colors in the ceiling. There is also one extra wire in the ceiling. This chandelier is to be controlled by a switch. Chandelier wire colors:WhiteBlackGreen/yellowCeiling wire colors:RedYellowBareBlackPlease help! Thank you!
- You do have a problem there, the colors in the ceiling are not standard. So black goes to black(hot), then green/yellow goes to the bare copper (ground). Now the tricky part is, you'll need a test meter to figure out if the yellow in the ceiling is the neutral which should go to the white. I would test between the yellow and the black in the ceiling (with the switch on) to see if there is 120V there. If there is problem solved, if not check between the red and yellow. I am guessing that either the red or the black will be the hot and the yellow will be the neutral. The one you do not use, I would cap off either by putting a wire nut on it or electrical tape.
- Q: I have a Trane Heat pump AC/Heat. There are several wires and Im a little stumped? There is a Tan wire*which the book does not show) and a black wire that is labled X1 on the old one but is not in the new ones book? I have also been told NOT TO hook blue wire up to the B port?? But if not, not sure where to put it?
- Go get an HVAC technician to install it. You'll have at lot less headaches
