- Q: This is the hood located inside the grill on the front of the car that you pull to lift up hood. It broke off. Now I cannot lift the hood at all. What is this part called? I want to try and buy the part online. Thanks in advance.
- It's usually called the 'hood release lever'. I've heard it called the 'hood release tongue' simply because it looks like the car is sticking out its tongue at you when it pops out. By the way, it's not intended to be used to lift the hood (that's the most common way to break it). It's only designed to release the safety catch behind the grille. To life the hood, either grab the hood itself or the grille. Personally I would just go to a Benz dealer to pick it up. You don't mention what year and model you have but for many Benz models, that lever is less than $10.00 and the more common ones will likely be carried in stock by the parts dept. By ordering it online, you may end up paying more by the time you include shipping costs with the price. BTW, it's still possible to release the hood with a broken lever. Just get something long and thin (a metal coat hanger works very well) to reach behind the grille and to pull the safety catch forward in order to release the hood.
- Q: I once lifted a small car out of a ditch. I was younger.and stronger.but it was pretty cool.
- sounds like you might have some oil on your pads or maybe your right caliper may be sticking?
- Q: I have a body kit on my car that gets in the way for a traditional car lift. I took it to two merchants shops, one lift cracked the kit and the other shop said we can't do it.Unfortunately I don't blame them too much since I chose a car with a kit, and please hold your opinions on body kits. I'm looking for a shop in my area that may have a lift suited to my car that won't interfere with my side skirts, or a specific name of a lift.unless all car lifts are pretty much the same?thanks in advance
- Yep them 4 arm lifts will do up a side kit real quick. You need someone with a drive on rack. Like good alignment shops/frame shops use. Instead of arms, you drive up on two tracks. Lift's the whole car on the tires. Jacks built into the lift can then access the suspension from the bottom and inside the body kit to lift it if need be. Use for alignments, exhaust work, oil changes, and all kinds of stuff at our shop. Mostly cause the techs are too dang lazy to use the 4 arm racks. Too easy to just drive up on the lift and hit a switch and up it goes.
- Q: I have a 300e Mercedes and the back head rests fall when the car gets started. When the engine is on and I try to lift the head rests they fall again but when the car is off and I lift them up they stand. What is the cause of this and how do I solve this problem? Please help someone?
- sounds like you have power head rest might take it to your Fever mercedes dealer for thy speck the doch!
- Q: I have a 1997 Ford Explorer and I was told that my valve needed a new lift. I was told that, but was not told what it was. I was told that without the lift for the valve I can still drive the car problem free, but that I should get it taken care of sooner or later. Is there a mechanic in the Yahoo galaxy that can give me some insight? Thanks.
- Does the engine make a clicking, or tapping sound? If so that is a lifter, not a lift. A lifter rides on the cam shaft and has a push rod on it that activates the rocker arm which pushes on the valve. A bad lifter will make noise and ultimately fail. You could damage the engine, at the least it will run poorly. To fix it you have to take apart the top of the engine. Not an easy or cheap fix. If this is not the problem I don't know what you were told. Good luck.
- Q: I‘m going to be doing some work and was wondering if the factory equipped jack could hold up one wheel.
- I don't even trust a factory car jack to change a tire with.
- Q: I have a 2003 crown vic (it was a police car at one point) and recently when i accelerate, usually between about 20-30mph, there is this metallic rattling sound under the car. The last time it did that, I got the oil changed (about 4 weeks ago) and the sound went away. However yesterday it started back up again. I figured that maybe my car is burning oil but when i checked the levels, it looked fine. The oil didn‘t look contaminated either, at least not as far as i could tell. Any ideas where to go from here?
- Rattles can be easy or hard to locate. Once found a fix is straightforward. Eg catalyst brick breaking up ? Failed / broken support bracket? It's very unlikely an oil change would correct such a fault but there maybe a heat shield? That is near that was fixed and has come loose again.? We really need to get under car and have a visual look and wiggle and shake test by hand to ascertain any potential issues giving rise to fault described. A garage can do this as car lift makes it easy.
- Q: Suppose the piston in hydraulic lift has a cross-sectional area of 0.10 m2. a. What air pressure must be produced by the air compressor to support 14,000 N, the combined weight of car and lift? b. Why is the area of the liquid surface in the reservoir irrelevant, yet the cross-sectional area of the piston very relevant?
- P F/A 14000/0.1 140000 Pa since the force is supported by piston, its area is more significant!!
- Q: how much would a 2 foot car lift be on a 1998 cadillac deville
- easy way is put on a chevy 4x4 frame under the cady body
