Q: Motorcycle ran just fine until it tipped over on the right side. It didnt hit too hard but hard enough to bend the rear brake pedal. Now when I try to start it it tries to crank then starts a clicking type sound then nothing but I can still hear the gas trying to move through the bike. Anyone know what this problem could be? Q: I really hate engine braking because I lose a lot of speed, and it just sounds awful and it drags so much it makes me think I'm doing something wrong..so I was wondering can it be avoided? I've heard that if you rev match u can avoid it, true false?also, when shifting down what are the correct speeds for each gear on a regular 600 sportbike? I know they'r all diff, I'm just asking what are YOUR speeds.
You hear different things from differnet people. You can rev match as your downshifting and you shouldn't be engine breaking at all. Honestly what I do is not really shift down through the gears except in certain circumstances. I normally just pull in the clutch and glide to a light or stop sign and just quickly click down through all my gears. I've asked some people if this is unsafe and everyone I have talked to says they do it a lot of the time too.

Q: I am working on a custom bike. I see some bikes online with no front brakes. What are some advantages and disadvantages of taking it off. To me it looks better, less maintenance, and lighter. I can see safety being an issue too. This is my first street bike so be nice. Do you use the hand brake more or less than the foot brake?
Disadvantage: The harder you brake, the more weight transfers to the front tire, and the less weight remains on the rear tire. Weight equals traction, and therefor braking ability. With no front brake, NO HARD STOPS will be possible. Thus, any emergency or evasive situation will result in a skid, and most likely a collision. Few, if any, jurisdictions allow motorcycles with only one brake, and no insurance company would knowingly cover one. Advantage: Cosmetics.
Q: im going to get a motorcycle in like 6-7 months but i want to learn all about them first, it will be a yamaha r6about the shifting i know that like down is first half up is N and up is 2nd and so on...what abiout braking though? clutch then brake but do i downshift at all while doing this or just downshift when stopped or what?also when do you downshift?
Its best to avoid just pulling in the clutch and coasting to a stop then kicking down a million times til you reach first. Its recomended that your downshift accordingly as you brake and slow down. That way youll remain in gear and engaged while you slow so that in the event that the light turns green before you stroll to a complete stop, you would then be able to just roll on the throttle and continue on your way. If you were to just pull the clutch in and coast then you would have to scramble to find the correct gear so that you can continue driving. Now that thats out of the way, based off the fact that you need to ask these questions its probably best to find a more beginner friendly bike to start on. I say that in the most non offensive way. Just something you should consider. Ride Safe!
Q: I am brand new to motorcycles and am teaching myself how to simply start and stop while i wait for my MSF class. I notice whenever i brake and come to a complete stop in first, the bike stalls. I then have to turn it back on, find neutral, and start it. Do i need to have the clutch pulled in when i stop? The bike works fine other than this, i get the feeling im probably not doing something right.
The bike is working fine, you need to pull the clutch in when you are going to stop.
