- Q:wire colors and funtions
- Most Common Firing Order For Cars Is Plug 1, Plug 4, Plug 2, Plug 3 But Get A Haynes Manual And Check, I Dont Want To Blow Your Engine :)
- Q:Wired car radio no sound powered on then wires crossed had to run red straight to battery. Then memory and ground crossed. Now nothing. Checked fuses radio fuse is bad. Will i also need a new wiring harness? Stereo Works fine when hooked up to battery charger.
- Yeah i had them all wired together right i didnt tape them off cause i was trying to see if there was a bad speaker or something and.the.ignition wires hit.the.ground so i ran it straight to the battery cause i thought the ignition wire shorted out in harness then i was told to check radio fuse.
- Q:My starter I replaced has 3 wires, two red and one black. Where does each wire go? Pictures would be very helpful if possible
- The First red wire goes to the solenoid on the fender well right by the battery. the second red wire goes from the solenoid to the starter on the one main post there. the black wire goes from the engine block to the battery on the negative side. All connections must be tight but not not crushing on the battery
- Q:Is it possible for a wire to arc with a nail? The u-nail that hangs the wire to a wooden support beam looks like it was hammered in too far and may have cut through the insulation around the wire. Is this a fire hazard or can I leave it as is?
- If you're talking about Romex cable, and a staple of the type commonly used to anchor it, some shock or fire hazard might exist. It's hard to tell without seeing the case. The cable consists of two or three insulated wires and a bare copper ground covered by an outer plastic jacket. If only the outer jacket of the cable is crushed or pinched, the danger is minimal. If the inner insulation of the wire is compromised there might be trouble. If you think this is so, show it to a 'Pro'. No-one can responsibly advise you without 'eyeballing` the situation.
- Q:I am installing a GFCI outlet in the kitchen (20 AMP) the box that it is already installed in has more than nine wires running into it. What I need to know is how does one determine the load wires from line wires when there are multiple wires running to an outlet box?
- You use some test equipment to determine which is the line cable. All of the grounds are connected together. Identify each of the remaining wires with numbers BEFORE you disconnect anything. After that you can make a wiring drawing of the connection box and device before you disconnect anything. Once the drawing is done you can tun off the circuit(s) and begin the changes. The line/hot wire and it's neutral are connected to the G F I line connections, the load connections are made to protect any down line devices. If you do not need to protect the down line devices all of the connections can be made before the G F I device. If this seems too much of a challenge for you the best solution is to have a qualified professional electrician do the work.
- Q:i have old wiring for a stove that iam putting in ,a new box but i have only 3 wires 2 of them are white and 1 black how should i connect on a 4 wire receptacle? on the receptacle 1 white 1 green, 4 a ground then it says x then y ???????
- dont even attempt to wire it up. call an appliance service and they can test the wires for current and properly wire it up.
- Q:installing ceiling fan, when remove light fixture, it has 4 wires system, wires used: white red and green with one light switch, what is black for, it has a wire nut, but has nothing connect to it
- Before I answer this again I would like to know. What has 4 wires the ceiling box or the fan/light kit. Are they comming out of a three wire together? (one piece of romex) from differant directions? Black is hot. colored(other than green) is wired to hot and may be hot also. White is neutral same as ground but should not be wired to or with a ground Green or bare copper is ground
- Q:I need to know about the fuseable link. and or wiring diagrams.
- depending on how it was set up to the solenoid, you could have two or three wires, including the battery cable. that large wire goes from the b terminal on the starter to the battery positive. there is also an i terminal on some, that is a wire that goes from that terminal to the ignition coil indirectly for a full 12 volts or close to it while cranking. the last terminal should be the s terminal. it goes back to the ignition switch.if you only get a single solid click, i think the solenoid is a good potential for the problem. if you pull that off and remove the plastic cover at one end, you will find the moving contact section. either flip that copper piece around or use a fine file or sand paper to clean it up along with the contacts in the cap itself. after all of that is clean, reassemble and bench test it before you reinstall it. if it cranks over well and at high enough a speed, then install it. if not, check the battery and then maybe have the starter tested at a shop. if you reinstall it and it still only gives you a solid click, then see if you can crank the engine over with a socket on the crank. bolt. if that does not work, then pull all of the plugs and try again.

- Q:I bought a new ceiling light and wired it myself. But I cheated by just copying the wiring from the old bracket into the new one. I want to do the other ceiling lights in my home. Supplied with the lights I am using is a 3 - way bracket (sori if terminology is wrong). Anyway the old bracket I copied was 4 way. My lights are wired from the mains supply with 3 live wires, 3 neutrals, and 3 positives. The light unit only has one live/neutral/positive wire. What do I do with the extra mains supply wires? I hope I have made myself clear as I even I am confused. Many thanks.
- Sounds like you have extra wires that are feeding other outlets or lights.
