- Q: My front brakes were making a squeaking noise on and off on my motorcycle so I changed the front brake pads (in which they needed to be changed bc the pads were shiny)... and now they squeak and squeal even worse! High pitch noise. And I don't even have to be pressing on the brakes for them to squeal, I can hear it going 45 mph! What's going on here? Btw the rotor is smooth/no ridges. Best answer, 10 pts! Thanks
- You should always lube the bearing surfaces of the caliper when you change the brake pads on any vehicle - motorcycles, cars, trucks, etc. The bearing surface on most motorcycle brakes is the two pins that run through the caliper and pads. You can use specially formulated stuff if you like, but they get moly grease from the factory and that's what is generally recommended. Just a thin coating and rub it around with your finger. You can get a normal person's lifetime supply can from OReilly for $5. Make sure it's moly grease, and not white lithium or some other type. It will be black and have an odd odor. Other than that, some pads come with a coating on them that has to be worn off and will squeak for the first few uses. Especially budget ones made out of cheaper compounds. I always spend the extra money for EBC on my bikes and Wagner on my trucks.
- Q: I know how to bleed brakes, but is their a good way to fill brand new brake lines? Thanks!
- No need to buy any tools. Better with two people, one topping up the reservour with fluid and one squeezing the break leaver. First pump until you feel some resistance then slow down until you see the fluid running out of your callipers without any air bubbles in. Must make sure that the nipple you have loosened is not too loose but not so tight that the resistance is too great. Do each calliper seperately and you may need to go back to the first one again. Don't forget the rear one either. Seperate line but the same process. One warning Break fluid is highly corrosive so don't spill any on your paint work!!!
- Q: I want to learn to ride a motorcycle. I know all the technicalities of CBTs and all that stuff, but want to know more about actually learning.I definitely want a 125 rather than 50 as I really can‘t bear the idea of getting to work at 30mph. Due to a chav culture in the area I really don‘t want a moped style, but would be open to a vespa style. My preference is for one that is more like a cruiser.however; I am not sure as to how difficult it will be to learn a manual bike, so feel I may be limited to an automatic scooter. So I want to know how hard it is to learn manual - bearing in mind I have been driving a manual car for 7 years. The other thing I want to know is: what is the best way to reduce the insurance cost? I realise that not having a full licence I will struggle to get it very cheap, but feel there must be something I can do to bring it down from the ?350 for fully comp mark.Thanks.
- If you can ride a bicycle, you can learn to ride a motorcycle. Balance and steering are quite similar, and the motorcycle's hand controls for throttle, front brake and clutch are easy enough to master.
- Q: China to implement the ban on smoking policy, some city electric cars will not completely replace the motorcycle, with and without electric cars or motorcycles What are the pros and cons, the performance of motorcycles can be completely implemented in the electric car, how long to be better Let people exercise the traffic
- Electric cars have no advantages, motorcycles are advantages.
- Q: So I just took an MSF in California and I LOVED it. Anyways, a big thing my coaches stressed is NEVER braking a turn. Always get the bike upright then brake. They did a pretty good job of explaining why that is to me, but I just don't think it's always possible. I mean, I always find myself braking in a turn in my car, great example: Getting off the freeway, you approach that big swooping off ramp and although you're able to maintain speed (40mph) exiting, there is some congestion on the off ramp and you're going to have to slow down... how do you do it? I know the emergency procedure for that situation, but realistically the bike isn't going to stop in time, or I will end up stopped in the middle of the road... is this just an issue of my immaturity on a bike?
- You are correct, every time you ride you will encounter some new situation. But the advice from the instructors is one to heed. If you over-brake in a corner you will be in trouble! Janice gave some good reasons and advice, as many did. Do not ride with the tip of your nose, ride with your eyes. 2-10 seconds is the minimum safe riding area you should be scanning constantly. Turns have blind areas, plus, obstacles: sand, gravel, metal, ect. These are some of the main reasons that you are told not to brake in corners. No matter how long or how skilled a rider is traction can be taken away at any moment, by a number of causes. It may take time to stand up your bike, but it will be able to stop faster(bigger tire footprint means more stopping power!) I took the MSF course after I had been riding for a time and I did it to save money on my insurance, but I have found traveling these ribbons of asphalt that the techniques and information passed along at these classes is time proven. Take everything they told you and apply it and you will probably ride for years without sudden impact, which is a very good thing indeed, Ride Safe and God Bless You-bty it will take sometime to understand motorcycles, but never stop respecting them!
- Q: I just had new brakes put on and a service done on the front brakes, its a Harley
- the brakes are disc type this system uses what is known as Knock Back the bearings and all the components are slightly narrower than the overall rim width. the bearings are torqued and this allows a slight wobble in the brake disc which pushes the pads away from the caliper. only 1 thing causes squeaking on this system, the pads are lightly rubbing the rotor. causes; most likely the tech over tightened the bearings. 2nd didn't install the caliper properly (clean lube set the pads) 3 rotor is messed up (slight warp, heat caused swelling) and caliper piston sticking just because harley worked on don't mean its right. Take it back and make them fix it
- Q: If someone accidentally hits a guy riding a motorcycle from behind, can they go to jail?
- If it was an accident, no jail, even if the motorcyclist dies. If you were driving recklessly, this could be reckless endangerment, and if the cyclist dies, this would be vehicular manslaughter.
- Q: How to drive a motorcycle (bike)?I know the basics of motorcycle driving, but I need some details explanation. When we shifting the gear, how to use clutch and throttle. Please help me
- Generally to move of, you runt the motorcycle on and a green light should come on. Start the engine. Raise the kick stand. Hold on the front brake. pull in the clutch, push the gear selector down. SLOWLY release the clutch at the same time and amount is twist the throttle, and when you feel the bike straining to go, release the front brake. To Increase speed, twist the throttle further back. To change UP a gear, release the throttle at the same time as pulling in the clutch, and flick UP the gear selector.
- Q: I have a 1982 Honda CM 125, and recently what seems to be the rear brake light is sticking. Using the front brake will not make it stick, but as soon as I use the rear brake it does. At first I thought this could be the switch on the brake pedal - but if you give the bike a good shake the brake light will disengage. So could this be a faulty connection? Any help with repair would be spectacular! :)
- Start at the brake foot pedal, follow the line off that lever that has a string and look for an adjusting nut. It could be you can adjust it. The fact that it stays on suggests to me it is not faulty but just needs an adjustment. cables and things stretch out with age, that is why honda has adjustment options on things that need to be adjusted. If it is the switch, I have cleaned them and made them work again. If you have a handy friend , ask for help.
