Q: I have a Grand AM GT. My Service Engine Soon light came on recently and I cannot figure out why. I know it is not because of the gas cap because this happened before and back then it was the gas cap and now I religiously turn the cap 3 clicks when putting back on. I recently had a Fuel System Cleaning at Sears and I am wondering if that maybe has something to do with it? The light went off yesterday but came back on today. Q: Why is this?What i have done so far:-Replaced gasket(i think thats what its called),spark plugs and wires-changed transmission fluid , done oil change.Im am considering doing a fuel system cleaning and the guy at Jiffy lube said something about my coolant/radiator.My heat/ac works great, havent had any problems.If I do the fuel cleaning and change the coolant, will this get rid of the service engine light.The car works great otherwise.: Go to autozone and the will plug in an obd 2 and let you know why the light is on. Q: My AC went out, and a few days later my emissions light came on. It‘s making a whining chuga-chuga-chuga sound when I crank it up, that gets quieter as I drive. I tried adding freon to fix the AC problem, but it hasn‘t helped. It blows warm, but still works, btw. Could these 2 problems be related? Anyone have any idea what‘s going on with it?: They're probably coincidental. Most AC systems fail because of leaks in seals, not because of mechanical failure, and putting in more freon won't do any good if it just leaks out. New seals are fairly cheap, and readily available at any auto parts store, but the system should have a dye in it that can be seen with an ultraviolet light to pin point the leak. It shouldn't be a big deal to fix. If the emissions light turned on, there's probably a trouble code stored on the computer, which can be read with any code reader. It's very likely to be for a bad oxygen sensor or two. Again, not a big deal to fix.

Q: I drive a Auto 02 corolla with 120,000 miles. when the check engine light came on back in may, friend drove it to the shop for 2 days to fix. After i got it back i was told the exhaust pipe needs to be replaced(or something with the exhaust system i wasn‘t there) so the CEL dissapeared for a week then came back on, i been driving it with the CEL on since may, it makes very loud noise when i step on the gas pedal. should i keep driving it? it doesnt affect the engine right? Q: Thanks for answering so soon.Almost every year I have been going to the Toyota dealer with this problem. They mention different codes while none of my mechanics cannot find anything wrong in the systems and the car runs fine. I have spend money on diagnostics and replacement of parts to then few months later have the light on again.Are they tampering? Is there something wrong that has not been fixed? One of my mechanics said it could be anything small, such as a leak, or something loose. He says he cannot find it. The Toyota people obviously neither.Any idea?: No idea, but stop wasting your time and money going to the dealer. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a code reader. They are not that expensive. Next time your check engine light comes on, attach the code reader, obtain the code and then clear the light. You can Google the code and determine what the problem is and if it is serious enough to require repair. I keep my code reader in the glove box all the time. It's saved me hundreds on dollars.

Q: How would i kno if the ac is on?also, how can i check if theres leaks in the system?the previous owner said he had it refilled this year in june: there has to be something that tells you the temp inside the car? A thermometer? compare it to what you set the climate control on it should be the same temp or near. To see if there is a charge put the climate control on the lowest setting and see if the air coming out of the vents is cold if not then there is no charge if you hit the gas a little and the air becomes colder then there is a low charge.

Q: I have to put my key in the little keyhole next to the gearshift to get it to reverse. My brake lights don‘t come on but my headlights do. Any idea what could be causing this? Thanks for any help.: The way the shift interlock on your car works is that for the control to know that you have your foot on the brake in order to take the car out of Park, the system looks to 'see' if the brake lights are on. So the inop brake lights are the reason you can't take it out of Park without using the emergency key release. In almost 100% of the cases, the problem is with the brake light switch. It is at the top of the brake pedal lever under the driver's side of the dash. if you look under the dash and follow the brake pedal up to the top you'll see it. You'll need to have that switch replaced. You should be able to buy the switch at any auto parts store; they are usually about $20. If you are going to have someone else do the repair, call around and ask for quotes to replace the brake lamp switch. Hope that helps

Q: Hi, I have heard of the transmission problems that happen in the accords. In mine when I very start to move the car jerks and it seems like the tires are spinning but I‘m not sure if that is what‘s happening. The check engine light is on and the guy at advance auto parts says the EGR valve needs to be cleaned. Also the TCS (traction control system) light comes on occasionally. Keep in mind that my car does need new tires. Does this sound like a bad transmission problem or something minor?: the V-6 transmissions in 1999-2000 had almost a 100% failure rate. By 2001 they started to get better but there were still some issues through 2003. Only affected the V-6 as the 4 cylinder used a different transmission. as for your problem, the V-6 of that year also had EGR problems that clogged the tubes that the exhaust gas recirculation traveled through. there is a modified 'kit' to replace the EGR and the tube. that sounds like the cause of your hesitation from starts and on the TCS light. what happens with the TCS light is kind of funny from a logical point of view. The way TCS works is that when the car starts to lose traction the TCS system reduces engine power by disabling engine cylinders until the car regains traction. Well, when the engine is running on reduced power, such as when an EGR hangs or when the car has a misfire, the TCS control unit 'thinks' the TCS is engaged and puts the TCS light ON. you don't have a problem with TCS. You probably don't have a transmission problem. you do have an EGR problem if the information you provide is correct. make sure your technician replaces the EGR with the kit. the kit is only available at Honda dealers so your parts store won't have all the new pieces necessary to fix your car permanently. hope that helps
