Q: One switch is old and I want an auto switch in the stairwell. Can i add just one auto switch to the pair of three-way switches? Currently there is a switch on the top and one on the bottom of the stairs. I want the bottom one to have a motion sensor switch.: NO. A 3 way switch is designed to make/break a circuit when either switch in the pair is flipped. BOTH positions are both 'on' and 'off' depending on the position of the other switch. The motion sensor is 'on' or 'off' independently. It can't work with the other half of the 3 way pair.

Q: Its a yellow light located above the temperature gage that has some unusual shape that i cannot recognize. What does it mean?: most yellow lights are like yellow street lights thay are there to warren you. its letting u know that either u have some sort of fluid low, or Ur abs system is not working, best thing to do is go to local repair shop let them see what light is on they will be able to tell u what it is. most shops will look at it for free. or go to ur local auto parts store thy will do the same thing for free. but i would have it checked out ASAP

Q: I have a 2007 ford fusion SEL 3.0L V6 with 100 thousand miles on it but in really great shape. I got a check charging system warning on the screen, but no light on the dash. I noticed it was a little weaker at starting, but not extremely weak. I checked the battery with the multimeter and got a 12.86 volt reading while off, and a 12.33 volt reading while running and max electrical activity, which I dont think is really that low for my alternator‘s size. Now I just tried to start it and it was practically dead, I heard one successful revolution and then everything shut off: radiator fan, dash lights, headlights, everything. After a few more tries it finally turned over, and now starts like it did before (slightly weak). Any other auto people have advice? By the way when I couldnt get it to start i did use the multimeter again and it still had a 12 v reading. is there another way i can check the alternator?: This happened to me in a 2006 Ford Fusion. Turned on the key, read out says check charging system. Turns over slow.but just wont start. Found out there is a fuel reset switch that can be tripped. Mine must have when I took out the battery, not sure. Anyway, There is a button behind the passenger side kick panel. If you lay on the floor board and reach over the top of the panel (toward the outside of car) you can feel a ring with a button inside it. What I did was to push it and hold for a couple seconds with the key off, then did it again with the key to on. Turned the ignition off, then tried to start it and it fired right up. Smelled of over fueling due to my heavy foot when it wouldn't start. It eventually evened out and is running fine. Hope this helps. Rhino

I found a pair of 7 auto headlights for 1/2 the price of one motorcycle headlight. it should fit the bucket but what about the 12 volt system?: Most bike headlight bulbs are auto parts mounted in custom housings, and replacements can be bought off the shelf at AutoZone or Poopboys. My light I've run for the last 25 years is like that. In fact, some of the original custom chopper headlights were bolted up right off old antique cars like the old bullet light Chevy's and Model A Ford's. All electrics, both Bike and auto nowadays are ALL 12 volt systems.

Q: My engine light came on 3 days ago.I took my car to Auto Zone they hooked up a scope and it read it was the gas cap.I cleaned the gas cap and the surronding area of the cap area.He turned to senser light at my request and the next day the light came on again.I live 90 miles away from a Toyota dealer.Does anyone have anymore suggestions?: There is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to tell if the Gas cap is causing your Check Engine Light to come on using the OBDII tester (they don't have a scope at Auto Zone). You would need to Visualy inspect (was the gasket GONE) or use a Fuel Cap pressure tester to verify. What they did find out, was that the CODE recorded in your computer had something to do with an Evaporative System Leak (I hope). Of more use would be to post here the actual Code (or codes) P0xxx that they did retrieve from your computer. If you don't have it go back and have them read the codes again and Post your story again. BTW. it is against state law for Autozone or other auto parts stores that are not a licenesed REPAIR center (In California) to turn off the Check Engine light. (Turning off the light is a repair and they are not licensed to do repairs) Now YOU can turn the light off with their computer. Do not buy any parts based solely on having the codes read. Up to 40% of the time the code is telling you that the Device (for example an O2 sensor) is working perfectly and reporting (sensing) a problem that is occuring earlier in the process. DIAGNOSIS tells you what the problem isnot the symptom (the code is a symptom). Find the codes from last time or have them read again and REPOST your request. If it is someting bigger then it most likely will be covered under your 8 year 80,000 mile warranty that all cars in the US have (Except CA only cars they only get 7/70)

I took it to advance auto for a free computer reading and it cam out with system or car running lean..I ask the guy he said it could be the O2 sensor? I don't have the money right now to take to a mechanic .. what could it be? and where are the O2 sensor locate in a 2001 ford escort zx2 ?. maybe I can change them..
