Q: The light disappears spontaneously after 1 seconds. The car drives ok afterwards. The oil level looks fine on dipstick, and I have one bar left on the auto oil change indicator. This has been happening for the last 2-3 weeks. I recently had a dead battery, which is lt;1 yr old, and thought it might be a bad alternator. Could this all be due to that?Thanks: All cars have a sensor which detects oil pressure. That sensor is probably bad or the electrical connector could have become disconnected from it causing your ECM to give a false indication. Or the wire/s itself somewhere else could have been broken. So really there are 3 things that could cause your oil light to come on. Or worse your oil pump may be getting weak indicating its fixing to go bad or the oil pump pick up screen is clogged. But one clue to that is do you hear any tapping/ticking from within the engine? If you do then that would be an indication to the oil pump going bad or screen clogged up. Hope this helps.

Q: I own an Audi A4 2001 and my check engine light comes on almost everyday then will go off. The first time it came on was almost a year ago and I had it checked by auto zone. They said it was my cadlic converter.I never got it checked out, so now it‘s coming on almost everyday then going off after the car is parked for awhile. I just found out that I may have a problem with my CV joint as well, so I was wondering if it was my CV joint the whole time making my light come on? Does the light say Check Engine or Service Engine. They are two different things. There is a good possibility that you need to change your timing belt because I believe you have what is known as an interference engine and the belt needs changing at around 60,000 miles and if it's not changed and it breaks, you will bend valves.

Q: I have a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.6l v6. I‘ve had it for about 14 months now, and these past few weeks my light‘s come on for the Check ABS System and Check Traction Control. Check your brake fluid level first. All four tires must be the same size and inflated to spec. Disconnect the battery, step on the brake, reconnect the battery if the light stays off, your gold. Most failures are wheel speed sensor(s). You may be able to get a free scanner diagnosis at Auto Zone etc. Ask your friends or AAA for the name of a shop you can trust. Look for ASE certification. Contrary to popular belief, most mechanics are honest, incompetence can be a problem.

Q: The service engine light came on in our car this morning after getting gas so we thought it was just the gas cap but took it to auto zone to be sure. They said it was an egr or ezr (not sure which) valve and sensor and that it may just need sprayed with wd40 to get it to open up and if not and has to be replaced its a $170 part. My husband drives our car 100 miles a day to and from work so please use that in saying whether or not its driveable.: the egr dilutes the mixture in the engine and this lowers the temperature in the cylinders if you notice any pinging sounds under load this is how damage to your engine can occur if it sounds ok you should be safe driving it until it is fixed. no promise. good luck.

Q: Ok so I was driving and out of nowhere my engine light comes on and when I would complete a stop on a light my car would shake. It also kinda wanted to turn off on me but it didn‘t. And when I was in a stop and then accelerated my car would take out white smoke out of the exhaust. Also when I would try to accelerate it would have trouble accelerating it didn‘t want to go. And it kinda smell like gas also.I have a chevy cavalier 1999Please answer thank you: The first thing you'll to do is have the check engine light decode (Read), most auto part stores do it for free, including Aamco stores and go from there. White smoke? If it just vapor, steamy white smoke when the engine is cold then it should be consider normal. But if keep on smoking and the vehicle is loosing coolant: Remove all spark plugs then do a cooling system pressure test and if you use a small flash light or better use a borescope and look through the spark plug holes and you'll see if the coolant get into the cylinder combustion chambers, this is the reason causing the white smoke. The cause is a cracked cylinder head or a blown head gasket. Take care and check into the matter right now before the coolant fill up the cylinders overnight and when you start it up the next time. It'll go to a Hydro- lock and engine damage will occur. HTH

It will be a 4 digit code Pxxxx . the P stands for powertrain. And O for the first digit would mean output, a 1 would mean Input. then the next 3 digits are the systems and sub systems.
