- Q: The car is either a 2005 or 2006 and runs pretty great except the check engine light tends to come on and stay on and sometimes when the check engine light is on the car will slightly shake in sort of a jerk motion then it will stop immediately. I do notice this happens when the car has not been driven in a few days. We have taken the car to auto mechanics and when they run the code they say it could be a number of things but never give a resolution to the problem. I am a female so I dont know much about cars and the car seems to be okay except for this problem. I plan on driving across country so I want some insight on what this could be before I make this trip.
- The codes are usually quite specific as to what they mean. Some auto stores will run codes for free - like Pep Boys, Auto Zone or O'Reilly (i think.) They will tell you what the code says and sell you any parts that they can determine. If it is fuel/emission related The light should STAY on. If it is mis-fire (which it sounds like you have) the light will go out after a while if the mis-fire stops. There are specific codes for misfire of a single cylinder. if you have one cyl misfire it could be plug or injector. There is code for random misfire. If you have that it could be water in fuel or bad fuel can cause this. If fuel is ok could be bad failing fuel pump or plugged fuel filter. Any competent technician should be able to diagnose it. If it has a drain plug in the bottom of the fuel tank have someone crack loose the plug and drain a quart or so out into a pan. Water and gas don't mix - so look for globs of water - water lays on the bottom of the tank and occasionally gets slopped around where it gets sucked into the fuel intake. Can cause your symptoms. Auto stores sell fuel Dryers that will dissolve water and run it through the system. ask them about it.

- Q: There are 2 warning lights that came on along with the check engine light. One of them looked like a car with a key in the middle and the other looked similar to a H and then the truck lost all acceleration I still had power for lights and my breaks worked but when i pushed on the gas it didnt go anywhere.This happened twice and i turned the car off and then restarted it and the engine light was still on but the other 2 werent but then when i started driving again and it did it again. we brought it to auto zone and they ran a diagnostic on it and said that nothing was wrong and turned the check engine light off but I dont want to get stuck somewhere and dont know what the lights mean. Please help
- The light that looks like a car with a key in it has to do with the security system and is probably what is causing your problem. The H might be something to do with the four wheel drive if it even has that? Just a guess. But yeah the security system can completely immobolize your car if it thinks for whatever reason it might be getting stolen. Kinda hard to diagnose intermittent things like that but I'd suggest taking it to the dealer and see if they can pull any related codes that might be stored (its possible to have codes stored and no check engine light on, it usually only comes on if something is detected that will affect emissions). I would guess Autozone probably just checked the engine control module and none of the others.

- No. Go to an Auto Zone and get the codes read for free so you know what the problem is. Make sure your gas cap is on tight.
- Q: Can someone help me out with this problem? I would like to try to fix it myself. My SES light came on in my 2004 BMW 325i and this is what the auto parts store said the problem was. The code was P0411.
- / The P0411 generic code has to do with the Secondary Air Injection System, which includes an air pump, vacuum hoses and the combi (sometimes called Kombi or combination) valve. If you feel that you can change these yourself, then go for it.
- Q: Every time I hit the F5 or F6 to light it up, A grey box pops up with a cancel sign in the bottom and won‘t let me light up my screen. What buttons do I hit to unlock it?
- If you are in a bright place, it will do that if the Auto illumination is checked. Try going to System Preferences/Keyboard and un-check Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light
- Q: I have a 1995 Chevy Blazer, and it has problems starting, idling is very shaky, and I smell burning all the time. I replaced the EGR valve, plugs, wires and caps, but was told the catalytic converter is now the problem. However, if that is true, why does the light only flash while I'm in idle?
- It flashes only when the computer detects a misfire. That's why it shakes at idle. Maybe a fuel injector problem. Good luck.
- Q: Is it ok to wire a 12v bulb to a 14v power supply? will the extra 2 volts hurt the bulbs very much?
- It's only about 15% over the bulb's rating. It will probably be extremely bright and will burn out sooner than otherwise. but should work OK.

- trying to get it on the internet is impossible unless you have a subscription to a repair sight.some auto parts stores will let you look at the diagrams in the book
- Q: Mechanic turned it off using a tool- said it was an old crash sensor code but it came back on the next day. He couldn‘t trouble shoot it any further- only option on his tool was to turn it off. It hasn‘t been hit in years- why would the light start blinking now? I tried to manually reset it following the procedure but it did not work. He said it is probably the sensor in the console. Is there anything else I can do to fix it. I‘ve heard that sensor is $800. Where could I find it for less? Junk yards like to sell with the airbag which I don‘t need. Is this an easy job to do by myself?
- The other thing the mechanic didn't tell you is that if the air bag light is on The Air Bags will NOT deploy in case of wreck. That is the computer telling you is detects something wrong with air bag system and it has disabled it. impact sensors are single use items. Once they have been triggered they have to be replaced as far as i know, this would explain your issue. I'm not absolutely certain about the sensor some confirmation would be nice.
