- Q: When I try to start my car the auto theft light comes on and it won‘t start. Why won‘t my car start?
- It may help if we know what kind of car that you have. If it is a GM car and the theft light comes on, you have a problem with the anti-theft system. When there is a problem with the theft system it will not allow the car to start. Generally on GM cars, it is usually the ignition lock cylinder or key problem. Most cars now have a computer chip or for GM a resistor chip installed in the key for prevention of theft. A reputable mechanic should be able to help you if they have the proper tools. However, with a theft system problem you may be better off taking it to the dealer. Hope this helps.
- Q: had Auto Zone analyze. Was told throttle position sensor circuit low input was the problem. They (Auto Zone) reset the circuit. Engine light is now off. Through it all, Jeep is running fine. What‘s up with all this??Jay
- It could have been a slight variation in the voltage that set a code in the computer. Sometimes with all accessories on (lights, heater on high, windshield wipers, stereo) the alternator output is almost to the max. When you hit the brakes, and the brake lights draw current too, you can end up with a momentary low voltage in your system. You will not notice it, but it may cause a fault code in the TPS. If the problem does not reoccur, I would not worry about it.
- Q: Can someone help me out with this problem? I would like to try to fix it myself. My SES light came on in my 2004 BMW 325i and this is what the auto parts store said the problem was. The code was P0411.
- It's not the air filter, it's the air pump locate on the passenger side(exhaust) of the engine bay. It can be as a simple fix as a broken vacuum line that control for diagram of the pump. That line is right at the exhaust as will be develop a crack in the line. I know I was doing the O2 sensor and bump it and it broken. Remove the plastic cover to get to the vacuum line. Pay $2 to get a generic vacuum and done. Save yourself $200 on the fix. Thanks to yahoo answers.
- Q: Hiya,I don‘t know if anyone knows any fancy effects that can be had with a sheet of polarizer gel, placing them in front of flashes to polarize the emitted light? I‘m used to using lens polarisers - but not on the lights - or combining them for that matter. So basically . is it practised? If so what is it useful for?
- Its used in finding stresses in perspex models of bridges etc. or even by stretching a transparent plastic bag, the effect is quite startling. The technique is to put the polarising gel in front of a continuous light source so the plane of polarisation is say strait up and down, then put a linear polarised filter on your camera with the polarising left to right, if you stretch a transparent plastic bag which is under the polarised light and viewed through you cameras filter you get an interference pattern of all the colours of the rainbow where the stresses are. I don't think the effect is as pronounced with a circular polariser. You can use a linear polariser on most DSLR's by ignoring the metering and auto focus and using manual, Pentax cameras are OK they don't use Polarised light in either their metering or auto focus systems. Constructional engineers use the technique by making perspex scale models of bridges etc, then they can actually see where the stresses in the construction are under various loads, they can see at a glance which part of the structure is carrying the load and how it alters when the load is moved. The effect will also work with flash of course, its just easier to use a continuous light source, even an anglepoise type desk lamp will work, you just need to watch the heat on the polarising gel and have an air space between the lamp and the gel. The gel only works when flat if it is curved it scatters the light and the polarising effect is diminished or even lost altogether. Chris
- Q: I am driving a V70 Volvo and the oil hasn‘t been changed for 6k miles and 9 months. Now the check engine light is on. My car stalled on me once at a stop sign other than that it‘s running great. Could it be that my oil is old?
- On cars today, there is a service engine maintenance light, as well as a malfunction indicator check engine light. If you haven't gotten scheduled, regular maintenance on your car and a technician hasn't reset the maintenance light, it would have come on. This is normal. If it is the check engine light, you should have your stored code checked at a dealer or a local parts store. If you haven't changed your oil for 6k miles/9 months, then the chances of the vehicle's OBD2 (on-board diagnostics) system indicating a failure via the check engine light is slim to none. First, unless your drive trips consist mainly of short ones that lead to heavy oil dilution (condensation, unburned fuel) due to low oil temperatures, 6k miles is for many cars, unnecessarily EARLY to change the oil. If you look at your owners manual, it will probably recommend at least 6k miles for normal driving. Oil change companies recommend 3k miles primarily to get business, based on severe (frequent short trip) driving style. If your engine uses oil to actuate solenoids in the oil circuit, and you have heavily diluted oil, the OBD2 system could potentially detect a slow response in the system. The best way to find out is to take your car to a dealer or local auto parts shop to have the stored code checked.
- Q: Car headlamp suddenly did not shine, my car in the action suddenly no distance lights, but the lights can be used! Is the headlamp not?
- If you change the light bulb, then go to the service station to check the generator charging voltage is too high, because the light bulb is not possible at the same time two burned. If it is not a light bulb it is possible that the headlamp switch is broken, if the switch is broken first to check your headlamp bulb is not installed more than 60W bulb, because the watt is too high in addition to burning the fuse may also burn the headlamp switch The Hope it helps you.
- Q: What is the composition of the car lights
- Common external lights are: headlamps, fog lights, license lights, reversing lights, brake lights, turn signals, lights, show lights, parking lights and warning lights and daytime lights. External lighting is generally used in white, orange and red; the implementation of special tasks vehicles, such as fire engines, police cars, ambulances, repair cars, the use of priority through the right red, yellow or blue flash warning light. Motor vehicles should participate in safety testing and comprehensive testing on time to ensure that the external lighting is complete and effective.
- Q: This only happens when I drive for long periods of time.
- ETS is an electronic traction control system that retards engine performance to help control wheel slippage. When there is an engine dtc or trouble code the pcm disables the ETS system. Take it to your gm dealer and have it diag. My just be an engine related concern.
- Q: Today, while my car was stopped at a red light, my parking brake indicator light and my battery light both went on at the same time, and have stayed on. My battery is relatively new and my car is acting normal otherwise. Is it my alternator? Is it safe to drive until I can get it fixed? I have a 2005 Nissan Sentra.
- alternator can be tested for free at most any auto parts store, in or out of the vehicle. battery as well. brakes, how did they feel? was it an ABS warning light or just a brake warning light? if they feel normal and it was just an ABS light, or an ABS light lit in addition to a seperate brake light, it might only be a ABS failure, meaning if you really step on the brakes the tires will lock and slide just like you didnt have ABS. brakes are the most important single system on a vehicle. nothing is worse then not being able to stop. having it towed instead of driving it ensures you dont get into a horrible accident if something bad is really wrong. after brakes, steering/suspension and tires are pretty much tied. good tires help you stop or steer quicker, good suspension/steering keeps the tires in good contact with the ground, helping you stop or steer, and pointing where you need them to go.
- Q: I went to start it on my lunch break yesterday and it was dead. I called AAA and they came to jump it and also did a test and said the battery tested fine, but it was dead again when I left work. After jumping it, driving it for 45 min and then leaving it running (lights, radio, etc turned off) for 20 min at home, it would not start again an hour later. The car has 100,000 miles on it and it is still the original battery. I have never had issues with it before. In fact, I have left interior lights on for hours and was surprised how long the battery lasted before it died. I'm really hoping I just need to replace the battery and not the alternator or something else. Anyone have any ideas?
- take battery out recharge it .see if it starts car after full charge if so not the battery uld be draing from some where or alternator fault is red light for alternator on or what .best bet drain on battery somewhere .take lead of battery and see if battery losses power out of car overnight should keep steady 12.5 vaults at all times if good battery.
