- Q: about two months ago we started to plant our flowers in our garden.then one week later we notice we had alot of dead flowers.then that same day we had some guest over and they all said it was squirrels.so if you have a way of keeping sqirrels out of your garden please tell me!!!!
- I have a couple of squirrels who visit my fire escape in the city and chow down on my potted plants, stripping them totally of leaves. First attempt: cayenne spray (powder + water) -- seemed to be like salad dressing to them. No good. 2nd attempt: garlic chopped up and place on the soil. More salad dressing. 3rd attempt: mothballs. They stink and it's horrible with my window open. But it does work around the leaves close to the ground. HOWEVER the morning glory vines climb the trellis and those upper stems have become a frickin' salad bar!! And I have since read online that mothballs can leach into the soil and aren't good for the plants either. Currently I have resorted to a large clear plastic bag over the trellis and that is keeping them away as I search for a solution. 100% Essential Peppermint Oil has been recommended and that will be my next try.
- Q: I'm wondering which of these two stores is better to go to for gardening tools and supplies. Someone help and tell me why!! :)
- Big box stores are not where I usually buy my gardening supplies, but I may buy a tool or 2 there is the quality and price is right. To buy good tools you need to look for the best price but the most important is the quality. Cheap poor quality tools just don't last. I found that out years ago after buying a new trowel just about every year. I splurged on a stainless steel one. I take good care of it and it has lasted 40 years. I use 16 oz. disposable colored beer glasses for pots and I put holes in the bottom with a wood burning tool. @ $3 for 50 they are not even worth washing and sterilizing to use again. I also use plastic mushroom boxes and other plastic grocery containers for growing plants. The plastic biscuit containers make a good tray and humidity hood. I buy my soiless pro mix at a local nursery and pay $30 for a 2.8 cubic feet of compacted mix. It is much cheaper than buying those small bags and as long as you keep it dry will last for years. Many of my trays are from the grocery store garden center after they are finished selling flowers. They only throw them out anyway and are happy to give them to you.. My fertilizer may come from a big box store or anywhere else that has a good price. To sum things up--buy quality tools--recycle anything you can and look for the cheapest price on the rest
- Q: Hey looking for a home maintenance/reno tool kit for around 100 bucks or less, any good websites which have deals? Thanks!
- I wouldn't buy such a thing, and especially not a cheap one. Kits always have stuff you don't need, often have cheap stuff that breaks or wears out fast. Better to buy decent quality stuff as you need it, and never buy really cheap tools. $100 would buy you some basic hand tools of reasonable quality, or one good small power tool. Tools are one thing where you get what you pay for. I've gone cheap and I've bought the best, and the cheap ones are usually a waste of money.
- Q: And once indoors, they usually die because the humidity indoors is too low for both centipedes and pill bugs to survive.
- False. I would think if it's dry outside, they are looking for a wet environment. They cannot live indoors because they are crustaceans.
- Q: If the next doors land is lower than mine, do I measure the wall from my land or next doors.I have also built the wall on my side of the boundary, including footings; does this mean next door can not paint their side of the wall or fix things onto it?
- depends on where you live, in my state if you put up a fence on the line it is a common fence, both will take care of it, he can paint it on his side, go by your land for measurments
- Q: Hi, I have a copy of the Better Homes and Gardens Bread Cookbook from 1963. In there is a recipe for Hopping Bunny Bread. The picture with the recipe shows two versions of the finished bread: one has the bunnies shaped in a curlicue type of fashion, with a head, body, tail and ears. The other version is simpler, just a twist of bread that resembles a bunny from the back, with a tail at the bottom. I have the cookbook but we moved and a lot of my books are in storage, and I won't be able to look for this book until after Easter. This bread is a tradition in my house...I bake enough for my family and for my parents too. I do remember that there is orange juice in the bread dough. If anyone has this recipe or cookbook and can give me the recipe I will really appreciate it!
