3) What is the difference of Wilton Carpet and Axminster carpet
Wilton carpet, like Axminster carpet, is woven. However the difference between the two methods is the way in which the carpet is woven. Whereas the Axminster yarn is woven into each weft and then cut to the required pile height and then reinserted when that colour is needed again –the Wilton carpet yarn is a continuous strand woven all the way through.
- Q: My cat has torn up a couple of sections of the carpet in my apartment. I went to Lowe's hardware and they have the carpet I need in stock. However, I keep getting the runaround about what I need and what I need to know to get what I need. I was told that I need to find out how my carpets are installed. I don't want to ask the apartment people because they will charge me a ridiculous amount of money to fix the situation. I have Shag carpeting in my apartment. I do not know how it's laid onto the floor. Is there a way that I can find that out? Also, is there anything else that I need to know? I haven't found any help regarding this except getting the runaround. Please help a girl out! :)
- I've had to repair construction damaged carpet in several houses - here's how I went at it. Go to a carpet store and ask for carpet tape - a wide version of duct tape. You should be able to get it as single sided or double sided tape. Take a piece of carpeting identical to the carpeting you have to replace, cut it large enough to replace the damaged section, and lay the new piece over the old. Keep in mind that the carpet has a grain or pattern to it, and in some types of carpet the direction of grain is quite pronounced - so make sure you match the direction of the grain to the original carpet. You may find it easiest to cut the carpeting patch from the back side, or use a knife with a blade designed to cut carpeting (see the carpet store again). As best you can, brush the shag pile on the existing carpet away from the line where you intend to cut it - it'll make cutting easier and the pile will hide the patch when the pile is brushed back into place. Hold the patch in place while you cut through damaged carpet, using the patch as a template. If you're uncertain, make the hole in the original carpet a little small and trim the patch to fit. Once the patch fits the hole in the original carpet, use the tape to fasten the patch to the original carpet (and to the floor if two sided). Get the cat de-clawed. ;-) Good luck with it.
- Q: I just looked at a fantastic apartment...but it has this horrible brown shag rug in the main room! It just looks way too retro and reminds me of my grandparent's basement rec. room. The landlord said the apartment could be painted (it would have to be painted back when we left) and right now the walls are all white. What can I do to bring this room into 2007? I was thinking of a nice brown accent wall, or even painting the window trim....any ideas are welcomed!
- Shag rugs are back! Believe it or not, silly people all over the world think they are way cool again. Bamboo blinds with a brown accent wall and window trims sound great. Couple that with a warm wheat color on the other walls and modern mixed with photographic art on the walls and you're in business. Just remember that if your furniture isn't really modern or simple the theme will crash. This will not be a room for Victorian or mahogany furniture. Think clean lines and simple strong colors. Good luck!
- Q: I purchased a very beautiful antique rug 2 days ago. The rug had been locked away in storage for years. It has a relatively strong musty odor. It is too delicate for professional deep cleaning. I have gently beaten it to remove dust, and now have it hanging in an open garage. I sprayed it with Febreze, but that only helps for a few minutes. Do you think it just needs to air out and give it time or is there something safe I can use on it? It is huge, like 10ft x 14 ft. No deep cleaners will touch it because they fear they will damage it. Help anyone! Thank you.
- I have many antique and vintage rugs which came to me really smelling bad. The one thing you can do to absorb the odor without damaging the fiber is to sprinkle it with baking soda and letting it sit, vacuuming it up and reapplying until the odor is absorbed. I have tried airing them out and have found that most of them that are natural fibers (like wool and silk) just don't smell good still when put indoors in a closed room and further, if you live in a smoggy, dusty or hazy area like I do, they simply pick up other odors from the environment. I have found treating both sides with the baking soda helps, too, because the backing particularly if it is a natural fiber, is also impregnated with the same odor as the fibers.
- Q: one of my cats uses area rugs for a litterbox. I have a multi cat household , I use large shallow tubs for litter boxes and they are cleaned daily. I am only having problems with one cat
- Make sure you are using unscented litter. Some cats will refuse to use a litter box with scented litter. Another litter box in a private location may be necessary. For a multi-cat home, you really should have litter boxes in more than one location.
- Q: I just purchased an 8x11 handmade wool rug online. I am not sure if I need a rug pad under it to keep it from slipping or whatever. I've seen a few rubber ones that cost around $80 and some thicker plush ones going for over $100. Is it really worth it?
- You will either need a rug pad or carpet tape to protect your new purchase from slipping and wrinkling. As to which you prefer, it depends on how plush the rug you purchased is. I have a very dense wool rug in my kitchen that is on ceramic tile and used two sided carpet tape to anchor it down. This enables me to have it vacuummed without fighting the edges with the suction and keeps it from wrinkling while doing so. It is thick enough on its own that a rug pad is unnecessary. That being said, I also have another rug under which I have a rug pad mainly to protect the flooring underneath it. It has a rough jute backing that with constant traffic will scratch the floor under it, hence the rug pad.
- Q: also, if you can tell me two suppliers that sell carpet
- Carpet comes in many sizes, from small squares to wide widths and almost no limit in length. Available from local carpet shops, Home Depot along with other home improvement stores. Years ago it was priced by the square yard, but with today's high prices they mostly charge by the square foot, so as not to scare you off with sticker shock
- Q: i want a rug for my room and cant find any i really love.
- Genuine Sheepskin Rug Four Pelt Natural White 4x6 NEW is very white, very nicely made, soft, and appropriately fluffy. I have felt two sheepskin rugs that were softer and a little bit more refined, but they were $600.00 a piece, rather than $160.00. Given the price difference and the, apparently high quality of this rug, this is definitely the best option.
- Q: Or do I take it to a cleaners?
- On okorder /
- Q: ive been looking online but i have no idea what size to get him.. he is a pacer or a trotter, standard bred// i think 19hands..all the rugs ive found online say 5.9 6.0 etc.. how do i know what.what my horse is?
- 19 hands? You need to take a tape measure and measure in feet and inches from the centre of the horse's chest to the base of the tail. Go round his widest part. Different builds of horse need different lengths, depending on their build, shape etc and of course the cut of the rug influences the fit of the rug.
- Q: Would it not look good if I got the duvet and curtains in pink and got a pink rug? does pink go with aqua? any other suggestions? By the way, my furniture is tan.ThanksAnna
- I'll assume you mean wall-to-wall carpeting. You might look at a grey rug, maybe a medium to light grey. Not necessarily very exciting, perhaps, but I suggest that because carpet is hard to change. Once it's in, it's probably going to stay in for a while. Paint colour is relatively simple to change, and grey goes with many colours. Pink can go with aqua as long as you choose the right shades of both. It would have a sort of tropical feel to it and would look best with other colours that are light and bright. Tan is not going to go too well with pink, probably, but has a better chance of looking okay with aqua. Wouldn't be my first choice of a colour combo but could be all right. Grey would go well with tan and aqua.
