- Q: I have carpet at one end of my house and tile on the other end. i want to install new carpet but still keep the tile. how do i install the carpet with tile at the end of it???
- Transitioning between carpet and tile is the last step of any tile installation project. It finishes the project off for good. When you are completing a tiling project yourself, it is important to remember to roll the carpet away from the tiling area instead of cutting it to where you think the tile might end. After the tile installation is finished, the carpet can be rolled back over the tiled area and the edge of the tile can be used as a cutting guide so the carpet will be cut exactly where it needs to be cut.

- Q: Saw a picture of the Mega Doily Rug... Awesome. Made with cotton rope and a size S crochet hook or your hands. Is it true that you can really take any doily pattern and just use this huge cotton rope to make a rug? Would you have to alter the pattern at all? Thanks for any help! Wanna make one for my grandma.
- It's true, and they used to make them with rages, so they were called rag rugs. I made a litle door mat sized one once using strips of rags. Just experiment, you can always pull the thing out and try again.
- Q: My new dorm room is a 9x10. I want to get an area rug to put down, since the room just has cold tile floor! How do I go about buying an area rug, and what size do I need to get?

- Q: Someone that moved in with me recently broke the wireless internet adapter to my computer and since I haven't figured out how to fix it I think it may be easier for me to just run a wire from the router to my computer. The problem is that the router is on the xbox in my room and the computer is in my living room 30 feet away. I am getting a 50ft Ethernet cable but I don't want to run it straight across my floor and plan to run it through my basement. I have hardwood floors in my room and there is already a hole to my basement there but my computer is over stretched carpet. I am wondering if I can put a small hole less than 1 inch in the carpet without damaging it or creating a spot that will wear more quickly.
- If you need to drill a hole for a cable, don t try to go through carpet. Use a bit as small as possible to just get the wire through.. Carefully pull back the carpet just a bit ( a few inches) between the base board and the carpet. Drill at a slight angle between the carpet and the base board and between the tack strip. After running the cable, the carpet can be put back in place easily. Never drill through carpet, it can snag and pull threads out. And if you happen to have a continuous filament carpet, you can pull a whole row of carpet threads out. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
- Q: I've just moved into a beautiful older home (125 years) and, although it's been recently re-wired, there just isn't always an outlet where I need it. I live with my elderly mother and do not want to take a chance that she might trip over a cord. When I do short tasks like ironing or vacuuming, can I slip the excessive cord under a rug so that she will not encounter it with her feet. She is absolutely sure that I'll burn the house down - and she's incredibly intelligent, but I'd like to hear from a real fire prevention expert.Thank you for your expertise - I think that safety is essential - paranoia is a bit much, though!
- Folks, it is oh so important to READ carefully, the question you're considering answering. I see absolutely nothing wrong, in the least, with this lady's idea of putting any excess cord under a throw rug so that her mother doesn't trip on it. As long as you don't forget it, and leave it there, you're perfectly safe. Check the cords in question to be sure they're in decent condition, don't put cords under any rug or sheet or anything of that nature that is showing wear of any kind of the insulation around the wires. As long as you observe a few common sense ideas you should be safe as safe can be. If, in the future, you find yourself wanting more recepts than you currently have, you could purchase one of the new multi-outlet extension cords used by carpenters, electrians, builders, workmen, in a #12 size wire. It won't be real cheap, but they come in 25 ft, and 50 ft. lengths. You could plug that into one outlet in any room and run it around the outer edges of the room to wherever you want electricity. You can leave it there indefinitely, as it doesn't draw any juice as long as nothing is plugged into it. Being on the outer reaches of the room, it's easily hidden by running it behind a cabinet, or chair or couch, etc. We live in a house built in 1904, so 106 years old, we've done this in many rooms, and are still utilitizing them to this day. We also have much of the old ball and tube wiring functional in our basement and a few walls.
