Wilton carpet, like Axminster carpet, is woven. However the difference between the two methods is the way in which the carpet is woven. Whereas the Axminster yarn is woven into each weft and then cut to the required pile height and then reinserted when that colour is needed again –the Wilton carpet yarn is a continuous strand woven all the way through.

Q: We are getting the carpet throughout the house redone. We had planned on a high quality laminate, but apparently our floors slope too much for that. Now we have to go with carpet. I fear a berber throughout will look too industrial, not homey enough. My husband feels like flush style looks like apartments he had in the 70s. The carpet salesman is recommending the same carpet in the whole 3 floor house. We have spill-prone kids, but no pets. any recommendations? we want it to look nice, but don't really know where to go from here.
A plush or a textured carpet ( I like textured since its hard to see footprints and vacuum marks) Either of those work well to give you a warm homey feeling. As far as the kids and spilling , I suggest a pad that won t allow moisture to go through . These are commonly call pet proof pads. Not allowing the moisture to seep all the way down to the wood subfloor, you prevent possible mold and its easier to get any liquids back though the carpet and this prevents restaining for from wicking. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q: We bought berber carpet and my new puppy decided to dig which pulled the thread. What kind of glue do you use to tediously put each loop back in the carpet? HELP!
You can't fix it. It will be more cost effective to cut out that piece and purchase a new piece to fit in.
Q: I steam clean my carpet twice a year but lately because of a sick pet it is more often. No matter if I do it myself or have a professional do it, I see dark brown water. It has never been clear. How many times do I go over the carpet to get the clean water. Is this all dirt? Or is it color from the carpet and pad. It drives me nuts. Only carpet that comes out with clear is one that was shampooed twice over the years in an extra room that isn't used. Thanks to anyone who can tell me why and what I have to do. No, I'm not a pig lol. Of course I vacuum regularly.
its because of wear and tear on the carpet / the padding / and the sub flooring. the boards underneath nove when you walk on them..causing sawdust for lack of a better word. dirt and oils from your bodies and the dogs and things that have fallen on the carpet. dirty shoes. the padding deteriorating...its all normal. you will never truely get the floor clean. the only way to do that is to remove the carpet completely.
Q: What is the best way to get a VERY yucky white carpet clean???I have a carpet shampooer and it doesn't seem to do the job. Do you know of any good pre-treaters or tricks I should know?
For heavily soiled carpets, shampooing is recommended, rather than spot-cleaning. Wet-cleaner machines spray and remove hot detergent solution while cleaning the carpet. Instructions Difficulty: Moderately Easy Step One Purchase or rent a wet-cleaner machine also known as a steamer, at a hardware or grocery store. When you rent a machine, the necessary cleaning products are usually included or can be purchased at the rental store. Step Two Vacuum the floor thoroughly. Step Three Spray heavily soiled areas with prespray or traffic-lane cleaner. For really dirty areas, increase the amount of prespray used instead of increasing the amount of carpet shampoo. Step Four Fill the machine's hose or reservoir with hot tap water. Step Five Use the machine and carpet shampoo according to the steamer manufacturer's instructions. Step Six Maximize the amount of water removed from the carpet by making a water-extraction pass with the water spray on, and then again with the spray off. Test the carpet with your hand. If your hand comes away with water droplets, extract again with the spray off; if your hand comes away damp and the carpet feels wrung out, you have extracted correctly. Step Seven Wait overnight for the carpet to dry before walking on it. To dry thoroughly, open windows and use fans. Tips Warnings * Special solutions are available to treat pet stains and odors. * To help your cleaning last longer, neutralize detergent residue left on the carpet by steaming with a vinegar-water rinse made up of 1 c. vinegar and 1 gallon water. * Oversaturating the carpet can cause water to soak through and damage the floor underneath.
Q: Our cat who is not declawed, will pick at anything. What carpet would be best in the den?
I think you mean Berber carpet. Why don't you simply go to a carpeting warehouse place and see if they have remnants and get them to bind the edges and then lay it down on the good carpet as a large area rug? I did that one place I lived and it worked out quite well. I also went to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond and looked for large area rugs that they have for kids going into dorm rooms and bought two rugs and laid them over my carpet. They were good for several years and when they got bad I rolled them up and threw them away and unrolled some new ones. I think they ran about $30 per rug.
Q: The pad is worn out under the carpet in traffic areas, but the carpet is fine.
This Site Might Help You. RE: Can I replace carpet pad without replacing the carpet? The pad is worn out under the carpet in traffic areas, but the carpet is fine.
Q: I purchased an old wool, floral patterned, pile area rug (approx. 8' x 10') at an auction. It needs cleaned and there is not a professional cleaner in my area. Can I clean it with a traditional steam cleaner using cold water? If so, what about the beater bar? Do I need to diconnect that so I don't fuzz the wool? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Since you don't have a cleaning service in your area;I would recomend taking it to laundry mat that has commerical washers and add 1/2 cup woolite and wash on the lowest setting and then take home and place over railing or flat surface and let air dry. I do this with my Oriental area rugs. If a laundry mat is unavailable; use the recomendation above in your bath tub; squeezing gently after your drain tub and then palce over railing or place on flat surface.
Q: On Craigslist, someone is selling rugs from Iran (with certificates of authenticity). The person's parents recently left the rug business and he has many rugs available.Does anyone know a fair price for these rugs or have a price guide? I realize that smaller rugs are obviously less than bigger rugs, but what, for example, should a 4' x 8' rug cost? Thanks for any help.
The price should be around $40/square foot for a standard hand-knotted wool rug. If you're looking at a kilim (looks like a very thick tapestry) those will be much cheaper, and if you're looking at a silk rug, or silk blend rug, those will be about double the cost of wool, or maybe more.
Q: we are trying to remove the old carpets in my house. you see last year, are air conditioner broke and leaked fluid all over the hallway carpet, and now we're trying to remove them. how do you do it with out ruining the floor below.
using a utility knife, pull the carpet up from the wall and begin cutting it in managable peices puling the carpet up a yoititu cut into
Q: Its almost thanksgiving which means lots of guest! I have nasty old stained grey carpet. what can I do in only a weeks time?
Well, you can get lots of area rugs...or just a couple big ones for the center of the rooms. Sometimes Wally World has them for about $25-30 each. Of course, they aren't high quality, but they'll do. I say center of the rooms, b/c that's most likely where most of the wear/dirt is. But I would try cleaning the carpet really well first. Rent a Rug Doctor and clean it, vacumming with a regular vac REALLY well first. You can save on the carpet shampoo if you use liquid Gain (it's low foam enough, use the same amt. of it the machine requires of the reg. stuff). I have off white carpet, and I've even used bleach in my steam cleaner before. Not something I'd do often, but I was desperate to get it clean and didn't care if it got messed up. It stung my eyes before it was all said and done, but it looked really nice afterwards (I used Gain at the same time also). It didn't bleach the cream color out of my carpet at all, and that's using about 1/8-1/4cup per clean water change. But if you're worried, dilute some bleach with water and test in somewhere hidden first. But if you think your carpet is ugly anyways, I don't know that you'd care if it were lightened up a bit.
