- Q: What is the function of the pump?
- Pumps are usually used to enhance the liquid, conveying a liquid or liquid to increase the pressure, that is the original motive of the mechanical energy so as to achieve variable liquid fluid energy machine called pump.The technical parameters of measuring water pump include flow, suction, lift, shaft power, water power, efficiency, etc. according to different working principles, they can be divided into volumetric pump, vane pump and so on. Displacement pump is to use its studio volume changes to transfer energy; vane pump is to use the rotating blade and water interaction to transfer energy, there are centrifugal pumps, axial flow pumps and mixed flow pumps and other types.
- Q: One repair shop on the phone says I will need new water pump, coolant flush and *850.00. On the other hand the dealer says I may need tow other drive belts (alternator +). Second dealer says I may need a water pump! I do not wish to get stuck with extra costs! any one with experience?
- On a 10 year-old car, if those parts have never been changed, then it's a good time to do it. The alternator and other belts have to come off to do the timing belt. The water pump is in there, too. When it fails, then the same parts you're just having replaced have to be removed to replace it. The incremental cost to replace the belts and water pump when you're replacing a timing belt is little more than the parts themselves. It's relatively cheap insurance against additional expense in the future. Finally, if the water pump is being replaced, the coolant has to be drained anyway. If the coolant is more than 3 years old, flushing/replacing it is recommended anyway. Just be sure that the shop isn't billing you the book time for each of these jobs individually. By doing it all together they have significant time (and cost) savings.
- Q: Car is ford taurus 98.The car had some problems including overheating as thermostat was bad so was was not working. i drove it 25 miles to garage (i had to stop once because too hot to let it cool), i brought it to Ford who replaced the thermostat. Now they tell me some bits of thermostat broke and they need to replace the waterpump and want $620 for it. The other repair were also extremely expensive and i want to bring it to another garage 1.3 miles away on flat road.-1- is it safe to drive 1.3 mile with no water pump or should iget it towed?-2- should i have to pay for the water pump or is it ford's fault if they did not remove the bits of broken thermostat before reconnecting new thermostat to hose ? Can i prove that the pump was working when i came in if i drove 25 miles with it ?Thanks for your help.
- On a cold day, with the heater on max heat will help, but ultimately its going to depend on how hard you drive the car and what kind of traffic you get stuck in. Its safer to get it towed, but you should be fine, just constantly watch your temp guage and when its gets around 3/4 turn the car off and let it cool. As for the thermostat, ask ford to see the new one they put in and see if the new one is the one that broke, or if it is the old one. If the new one is broken, they may simply try and replace only the thermostat as a faulty part. However if it is the old one that broke they should have flushed the system to clean out all the bits and pieces. Talk to the service manager and see what he says.

- most water pumps have a weep hole in the bottom of the pump when the seal goes its because the bearing is going bad. As long as the bearing keeps going you have a chance the problem is if the bearing freezes up it just goes BANG ! AND BLOWS ITSELF OFF THE CAR DAMAGING WHATEVER IT HITS ON THE WAY OUT. better safe than sorry a water pump is not that expensive compared to the damage it can cause if the fan locks and shatters too.

- If this is a well you are talking about, it may be a faulty pressure switch for a start from kicking on to often, and also it sounds as thou you don't have enough air in your tank not leaving enough air pressure so your pump kicks on too soon, and shuts off to soon. Check your pressure switch, and drain your tank completely, and see if that works. You will have some air at first, but it will stop in time. Your tank also needs to be in the right position as well keeping the right amount of air in it. Sounds like your pump motor still may be OK. One more thing, check to see if your check valve is shot.

Adjust fan belt tensioner to remove alternator belt (there is a plastic cover in the middle of the tensioner pulley under which is a bolt usually torx 50 with which you can adjust the pulley pulling clockwise/to the right). Proceed to remove bolts and pulley from water pump. Remove bolts from water pump. Put 2 screws into the empty/previously unused holes in the sides of the water pump to pull it out. Remove and replace water pump. Refill with coolant. Bleed cooling system to remove air from the system.
- Q: and it still runs about every 1/2 hr even if you are not using water. I have no leaks from the pump thought the house so I think the problem is between the house and the well. I can't hear or see any leaks in the elbows in the well. I tried to pull the foot valve up but can't get it out. I replaced the pump cause it was worn out and it was running every 15 min. Do I need to set the pressure on the new one it cuts off at 42 and on at 20 psi and what else could cause it to run when it shouldn't? I know I should call a plumber, but haven't worked in months and can not afford one.
