Q: i have well water. suddenly i'm getting more pressure in my water. I have a well siofterner system. does anyone know what could be causing more pressure to come out from the water?/ thanks alot.
The problem is either your pressure tank or your pressure switch. Since the switch is governed by the pressure in the tank, I would suspect the switch first - not the tank. You could check your pressure tank pressure using a tire gage, and make sure it is in the owner's manual operating range. The pressure switch tells the pump when to turn on and off - which is what fills the pressure tank. To check the switch, run the water until the switch closes and the pump turns on. Note the pressure at which it turns on. Now watch the pressure as it builds and note at what pressure it turns off. If you want less pressure, adjust the switch accordingly. We have ours set to come on at 42# and turn off at 65#. Our pressure tank air setting is 35 PSI.
Q: I installed a new water pump on a Cherokee straight-6 engine, the upper radiator hose is not heating up and the engine is starting to make a funny noise. The thermostat is new and was working fine before. The coolant reservoir is full and no more coolant will drain to radiator / engine. Anyone know why waterpump is not circulating coolant?
Apparently these guys made a 26-minute video detailing a water-pump swap on a Grand Cherokee. They are both 4.0's, so the procedure is the same.
Q: Pump frequent start will reduce the service life, I ask what kind of frequency is called frequent start?
Pump is the same, often start, not just reduce the service life of the pump, motor, contactor life will be shortened.
Q: I want to buy a 2000 Audi tt coupe that seems to be in good condition. The owner mentioned he has replaced the water pump. What could the reason be for having to replace the water pump? Could the car have over heating issues?
IT is EXPECTED that you replace the WATER PUMP and TIMING belt at 100k mile INTERVALS on ALL audi cars! The KIT is about $250 from CONTINENTAL using a HEPU water pump! It is ALSO NORMAL to FLUSH And FILL ALL FLUIDS at 100k mile intervals as well, even the BRAKE and STEERING FLUIDS! Consult with BLAUFERGNUGEN and 1-800-ALL-AUDI and 1-800-ALL-EURO. ALL small engines with TIMING BELTS require PUMP and BELT changes at 100k mile intervals! The AUDI has BOTH a timing chain AND a timing belt! AUDI REQUIRES THAT SPECIAL SYNTHETIC OIL that is EUROPEAN with the numbers 502/505 PRINTED ONTHE AALBEL! NO VALVOLINE may be used in ANY EUROEAN CAR! GOOD LUCK!!
Q: I have replaced the presure switch on my water pump but it switches on and off when it is building up presure instead on staying on until it gets to right presure.Any ideas of what is causing this?
This can get sticky, so pay attention and keep up. Every well system has to have a pump and a resevoir tank. The older style tanks used the air that gets trapped in the top of the tank and compressed, to push the water back out when you opened a tap. However, over time water and air will mix together a little at a time until there's very little or no air left at the top to compress, and we all know that you can't compress water, so when that happens, the pump starts up, the pressure switch realizes that the pressure is instantly at the shutoff point and shuts back down, sometimes over and over in an almost self perpetuating cycle, until you shut the power off. With the advent of the new bladder tanks, where the rubber bladder installed in the center of the tank keeps the air on top at a certain pressure and the water coming in the bottom away from mixing with the air, these problems pretty much go away, until the bladder breaks and allows water to flow up into the top area. Then you have a very expensive old style resevoir tank, with the same old waterlogged problems. If you have either of these types of systems then you can remedy the situation for a short time at least, by completely draining the tank with the pump off and then shut all the valves above and refill the tank, allowing the water to pressurize the air. If you have the bladder tank and it's acting that way, then you may want to replace it, or just use it as is. You can always pressurize it from the top and drain it by putting enough air in it to blow all the water out and then start over.
Q: There is no water at all! What can we do to troubleshoot this before calling a Plumber? This is the first time this has happened and we never had a well before. Please help (serious answers only)
You can rule out the thermostat. If you have no water at all the thermostat has no control over water pressure. The water heater also has no control over water flow, other than what comes from the water heater to the faucet. If you have no water at all that would indicate one of two things. The pump isn't pumping or the well has gone dry. Hopefully it's the pump. Your best option is to call a plumber as much as you don't want to. On the pump is an on off switch that could possibly have shut off due to a power surge. You should be able to flip this switch and get things back to normal if that is the problem. Also, once when I had no water and didn't know what to do about it I called a friend who did. The problem was no more than a loose wire on the pump. Reconnecting the wire made all the difference and saved a huge plumber's bill. You might go online and with the name and serial number of the pump find the on off switch and any other description of any parts. Hope this helps.
Q: i have a 2003 dodge neon and my thermostat keeps rising to the highes level setting off the indicator (its not broken) i did have a leak in the raiditor and it was very notice able..after pacthing is up there was noproblem till yesterday now the thermostat keeps rising i admit the is very little antifreeze in ther and the rest is water but the is the same mixture tha was in the care that it was rinning off for the last three minths i cannot seem to keep the thermostat down my raiditor is in nee of repair but i m wondering if its the water pump does the water pum help regulate engine temperture? ther are no ivsible leaks and no drippiage could it be that i just need to put antifreeze or could it be the water pump or a broken raidiator? help i will give points for best anwser but really i just need help!
Did you use a radiator stop leak to repair the leak. If you did the radiator could be stopped up. The water pump only pumps coolant through the cooling system. If it has no leaks or the shaft bearing is OK, the pump is OK. Also since the car was getting hot, it may have effected the thermostat. And the head gasket will cause overheating if it's leaking. To check this, remove the radiator cap (while the engine is cold, to prevent being burned) run the engine and look for bubbles in the radiator. The radiator is probably the culprit. Hope this helps. Q: We have fresh running water..no well... We just want to install it on our playground for the kids to experience a manual water pump. Can it be attached to running water? Do I need a tank? Help! Thank YOU!
Go okorder before you do anything serious or the local health department. This could be opening up a whole new avenue of new lawsuits and illnesses to you and those around you, check first. My daughter drank some water out of a free flowing well, well she was plowing a field recently, she contracted a parasite that almost killed here, one that only comes from birds that drops it's feces while drinking at a water supply. Some states require drinking water to have a cement barrier 18 inches thick and three feet wide around it. Sorry.
Q: I have a 1985 Jaguar XJ6 that runs great, that I was thinking about trading for a 1991 Alfa Romeo 164 that needs a water pump. Just wanted to get feedback from Alfa owners and find out how hard it would be to put a water pump in the car. Thanks
About $130.00 for the water pump (first link below). As for the difficulty, take a look at the second link for a good thread on replacing the water pump on the 164.
Q: I have a 2000 chevy impala with 85K on it. I have heard/a weird rattle noise from under the hood for some time now. I once asked about it on here and got suggestions regarding front end problems. I had that checked out and the front end is good. I still have the rattle noise along with a high pitched, but not very loud, squeeling noise when I accelerate. I am leaking coolant and it seems to be coming from near one of the belts. Is this a bad water pump? If so how expensive of a fix is it and how involved of a repair is it?
It sounds like a water pump or maybe a loose connection. It is probably time for a water pump if it hasn't been replaced yet. Parts will run under $60 and it probably involves an hour of labor. The Impala is a big car, it shouldn't be hard to get to and remove. Taking it to a shop will run under $100-$150 for everything.
