- spank your cat until it behaves..... Seriously you needed to put towels, to draw the oil out first thing. Keep doing that until there is none left to draw. Naptha as in Fels naptha or you might try lighter fluid....make sure you are well vented. A wet vac MIGHT do the trick as in the local carpet shampoo rental place. If all else fails call a pro. Obviously your concerns are an oil based product which might harm the dyes...or loosen them and anything else strong enough to attack the oil may be too strong for the dyes.... Oil lamps really should be kept in a safer place and used only as an aux light source when the electric goes out....open fire lighting has ALWAYS been dangerous....not trying to sound lecture like but over the years I have learned both candles and oil lamps are probably not a good thing in lieu of flashlites....not as romantic but far less likly to take out your entire house.

- Staple or screw the four corners down. Staples will look better but screws will be easier to take out when cleaning is necessary.

- You should have not gotten it wet. You should have vacuumed it up right away. There is no real way to get that out of the carpet now. I have tried. I did the same thing. Spilled an ash tray, brushed off as much as i could, then used resolve. I still have the stain. nothing helped. Sorry :(

- I'm sure the rug is machine washable. Try washing it in the machine on the Warm setting (not hot) using regular detergent and OxiClean. (Before cleaning shake the rug outside to remove any loose dirt.) If the rug does not have a rubber backing, you can machine dry it. If it does have a rubber backing, let it air dry. If you air dry the rug, you might need to fluff it afterward with a clean hair brush.

- Q:My carpet was just cleaned and is already dirty...it shows everything! I don't want to have to get down on my hands and knees to spot clean (the entire carpet constantly needs cleaning!) and I cant afford to pay a carpet cleaner every week. - Aside from the before mentioned don't wear shoes in the house... I sprinkle my carpets with baking soda. It not only neutralizes odor, but it does pick-up some dirt as well. I also wet the brush roller of my vacuum when I vacuum everyday...I use regular old shaving cream not gel to spot clean any serious stains and blot with a towel to dry... You can also buy Resolve foam for high traffic areas that you spray, work into carpet with a brush and vacuum... That's about all the tips I can think of....Oh yeah in the high traffic areas by doors if you can put a rug down.....
