- Q: how do you get red stains off the carpet?
- Red stains are the hardest to remove but you have several options. Spot Shot carpet cleaner will give you instanteous gratification and it can be used for other purposes, too, like cleaning upholstery. Wine Away sold at kitchen stores and Cost Plus also works on red based stains. Some red dye based stains can also be removed with a solution of oxyclean and water, but be careful to test it on an inconspicious area first to determine whether it will change the color of your carpet. Sometimes a simple paste of borax and water works and you can let it dry and vacuum it up.
- Q: So does anyone know how to properly wash a rug. A living room sized rug.... 8x10... without damaging it or anything? My darling 2 y/o has spilt plenty of things on it and it's time for a washing!
- Yes, you can wash bathroom rugs. But make sure you do it on the gentle cycle. It might say also delicate cycle or handwashables. That's how I always washed mine and then dryed it and it turned out fine. But this weekend I put it in the normal cycle (which spins kind of fast), and then when I went to take it out and to put it in the dryer, the sides were torn apart. Haha. It was kind of funny, any way it was time to get a new one, since I had that one for like 4 years. So now I bought a new one. Hope this helped.

- Q: I recently moved a couch and chair which was in the same position for 3 years on carpet. Any suggestions how to raise up the indent that is in the carpet. Thank you.
- Depends on the type of carpet you have but there are two tricks that generally work. The 1st way is to set an ice cube(s) on the indent. Carefully work up the pile as the cube melts, A hair pick works well for doing this. The other trick ( if you have a heat set carpet fiber) is to CAREFULLY inject steam into the dent. Use an iron and do steam on the dent as you work at the fibers with a hair pick. You can also put a damp hand towel ( very warm water) on the dent along with a steam injected into the dent. Extreme care must be used doing it this way as not to melt the carpet fibers. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL

If the carpet is old, you can most certainly rip it. Your answer from John G was accurate as to how to do it. I sure would have liked to have him on my staff of installers. He sounds very knowledgeable. I hope you have good luck with your stretching job. And DO consider the age of the carpet. Once it rips you are going to be forced to buy new carpet.
