Q: What do you put between a carpet and a tile floor?
There is a foam pad they use underneath the carpet. And along the edges the put a tack strip which has thousand s of upside down tacks thru a wood strip. This grips the edges of the carpet and keeps it in place. Although the pad isn't absolutely necessary it is advisable.
Q: I had roofs leaks in my 2 bedrooms (hurricane related) and filed an insurance claim. they covered replacing the carpet in the 2 bedrooms but NOT replacing the hallway and stairs' carpet because that was not damaged. The carpet is 10+ years old so of course i am replacing it all. I think it should be consider all one item, they say that because there is a 'break' between the room and the hallway, their practice is to only replace the damaged carpet -- though this is not defined in the policy. The new carpet is totally diff color. Has anyone had any experience with this? I have total replacement cost and it is State farm.
They do not owe to replace all the carpet. They would pay only for the room. Just because the carpet was damaged in one or two rooms does note mean they will pay to re-carpet the whole house. The purpose of insurance is to put you back where you were, Since you had 10yo carpet they owe you 10yo carpet. However, purchasing 10yo carpet is not an option - so they purchase new. Some policies apply depreciation to carpet. If they paid to put new carpet in the non-damaged areas, they are putting you in a better position after the loss than you were in before. And your policy does limit the coverage to the damaged areas. Most like there is language in it that says something like: We insure against direct physical loss to property described in Coverages A and B. The damaged carpet was damaged by a direct physical loss. The hall way carpet was not damaged. There is no direct physical loss. Additionally, your policy has language in it that says they don't owe you an exact decorative match. Here's another way to think about it- you damage your car and the fender and front bumper cover has to be replaced. Do you think they are going to paint your entire car? No. They pay to paint the damaged areas. So- your options are to replaced the damaged areas only and leave the old carpet in the hall. Or, go ahead and take State Farm's money and replace the damaged carpet and pay out of pocket to do the hall as well.
Q: Hello I need a carpet cleaning business name that is easy to remember and catchy, also not too long. It will be good If the domain is available also. Thanks in advance.
Rug Scrubbers.
Q: i have a cream colored rug and i got mustard in it..how do i get it ou? anyone know an old trick or any other advice????
Use a damp sponge and wipe up as much as possible. If there is still a mark a small amount of dishwasher detergent on the sponge should do the trick.
Q: does anyone know how to get the smell of urine out of carpet, ive trieed ferbreeze but its not doing it, any suggestions...
Hope this helps...Good Luck ! Carpets/Upholstery: 1) A great non-toxic carpet stain remover is club soda. Soak spot immediately with soda and blot until the stain is gone. 2) Pet Urine on Carpets: Dab area with toweling to absorb as much as possible, wash spot with liquid dish detergent, and rinse with 1/2 cup vinegar diluted in 1 qt warm water. Lay towels or paper towels over the spot and weight down to absorb excess moisture. Let stand 4 to 6 hours, then remove toweling, brush up nap and allow to dry completely. Use an electric fan to speed drying. 3) Red wine stains can be removed from carpet by rubbing baking soda in and vacuuming. 4) Sprinkle cornstarch onto carpet, vacuum. 5) To remove grease spots from carpets, first sop up the liquid with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of baking soda into the spot. Let it absorb overnight. Next day, remove the excess and vacuum the area. 6) To remove grease spots from carpets, first absorb excess with a sponge, then rub a liberal amount of corn starch into the spot. Let sit overnight, then vacuum. 7) Dry cornstarch sprinkled on rug and vacuumed. 8) Carpet Fresher 4 cups baking soda or cornstarch 35 drops Eucalyptus essential oil 30 drops Lavender essential oil 25 drops Rosewood essential oil or any combination of your favorite essentail oils Measure 4 cups of baking soda into a bowl, add essential oils. Break up any clumps that form, stir until well mixed. Before vacuuming sprinkle powder from a shaker type can or jar. Let it sit on the carpet for about 15 minutes then vacuum. 9) Herbal Carpet Freshener 1 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup lavender flowers Crush the lavender flowers to release their scent. Mix well with baking soda and sprinkle liberally on carpets. Vacuum after 30 minutes. 10) Sprinkle baking soda on carpets before vacuuming for a natural rug deodorizer
Q: Are rugs supposed to more or less engulf a room and be under the legs of your furniture (in our case that would be the 8X10), or are they used more as accents rugs in front of couches and chairs, not actually touching the furniture but filling the empty space....hence the 5X8?Or are there no rules and anything goes in the world of rugs? Also, any suggestions for selecting a pattern are welcome. Our chairs are neutral, but the couch has a strong leaf with some floral pattern to it, and in addition to struggling with size and colors to match it, we're also having problems with pattern on pattern. I suppose the safest thing to do would be just to forget rugs, since we seem to be challenged in this area - but the floor desperately needs something and the room needs a punch of color to balance it. Thanks for your help!
The rugs should be under the legs of accent pieces like kitchen tables or accent-end table. I'm not sure if the rule extends to the larger pieces.
Q: Is there some kind of carpeting that won't collect dust deep within its root? We're going to have most of our carpeting changed to laminate because I have HORRIBLE dust allergies, but we want to keep the carpeting in the living room and dining room. Is there some kind of hypo-allergenic carpeting?
I believe Berber carpeting helps with keeping the dust out as well as indoor/outdoor carpeting. Your best bet is to call a carpet store and ask them. May be a little more expensive than the cheap kind. Why don't you get rid of carpet all together and do some area rugs without wool and dust holding carpets. Then you can wash them or take them out side and shake them. Best of luck to you.
Q: I've never heard of carpet tile. How do you install them and what are the advantages/disadvantages compared to a roll of carpet? Are the tiles cheaper? Easier?
The carpet tiles are easier to install. They have the advantage that if you make a spot on one, you can lift it up and replace it. Great if you have kids or pets. They just snap together from what I've seen. Haven't priced them, though, so I can't tell about that.
Q: So I have this cheap $20 rug from walmart thats teal. I did away with it for a while but now that I want my room redone, I want a black rug to go in front of a futon. How would I go about dyeing this rug instead of buying a new one and leaving this one to collect dust? It has a plastic wired bottom to hold the rug together and to act slip resistant. Would dyeing it affect it?
Whether dyeing would work depends on what fibre it's made of. If it's wool or cotton, it would dye quite well with ordinary dyes, though it might present a few difficulties since dyes usually call for being heated, and a lot of rinsing after. If it's a synthetic fibre, which it very likely is, it might not dye at all because synthetics don't absorb dye very well, if at all. If they do, they usually require processes that would be very difficult to achieve with a rug, such as heating the dye bath with the item in it. All in all, it's probably not worth even trying. Find a cheap black rug to buy.
Q: I have not always found snug bugs in my rugs......so I am taking a poll here today to see if this saying could have some real validity to it. Do YOUR rugs have snug bugs? If so, how many snug bugs can you count in your rugs? And lastly, why on earth do we tolerate snug bugs in our rugs? What think you?
Its just a saying....
