- Since your house is newer, unless you specifically purchased carpet with flame resistance, it's going to be a synthetic material like nylon or polypropylene with a really low melting point. All of the different types have a lower melting point than wood will burn at. The question you need to ask the fireplace salesman is, what temperature does the unit emit at the base? If it's enough to melt the material, put clay bricks underneath it. Clay is a natural insulator, and you can set em up in some art deco style manner. Also little sparks have a tendency of getting in carpet and I have a woodburning fireplace in the basement, it's messy; bringing in wood brings in bugs, look up your local bugs.. So make sure you plan for keeping the carpet clean and spark-free!

- The manager should have a professional come in and dry your carpeting. We would never NEVER EVER clean wet carpet. You are only compounding the problem. The padding may have to be replaces. The smell is likely coming from the carpet off gassing because it is not dry. Pull the carpet back and place an air mover (not a fan) under the carpet. Have a dehumidifier going because if there is a lot of moisture you may get condensation. You want to get the moisture out of the air. Let it run for 2 days. Spray a Anti Microbial solution over the area. You should also check the walls and baseboards to see if they are wet and have those dried too. A professional water damage technician will make sure all that is checked. As long as you are not responsible ie caused the problem. The management is responsible. PS Put all your correspondence with the management in writing and document what happened. In case there is an issue when you move out. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES Good Luck

- You can use a steam cleaner. You can rent one or purchase one and use the soap that is suggested for the cleaner.

The next day, I put this carpet cleaner on it (one that has to sit for 15 minutes then you vacuum it) and it turned it orange!
- Also if there are no scraps you may be able to go to a carpet store or Home Depot with a sample and get a remnant. You can also cut out a section from where it won't be noticed such as the back of a closet and then just switch the sections.
