Q:I was thinking of getting my new apartment re-carpeted. I bet I can get the landlord to pay half, but out of curiosity...can anyone give me an estimate of re-carpeting a small studio apartment with some flat (not fluffy) basic carpeting?
Your best bet would be to tell your property manager and use there contacts to get the best deal. Most carpet stores compete for this business and get the contract for little margin but high volume. Therefore you will replace the carpet with same color style etc....Most of the time the winning contract will be between 11 and 12 dollars a yard installed. So your looking around $1200 dollars.
Q:what is everyones opinion on carpet vs carpet tiles. price ability to keep clean etc. thanks
I have both commercial quality carpet tiles and also carpet in our house. I am very handy so installed the carpet tiles myself. The commercial qaulity have a heavy backing that makes the tiles stay down without glueing. We had baseboards made from the tiles also....4 high and I glued them around the room. Looks fabulous. But you can use wood baseboards also. Carpet tiles are easy to install, just follow the instructions in the box. If you need to you can make a template out of paper to make a pattern. Then lay the paper pattern upside down on the backside of the tile to cut the tile following the pattern lines. But remember you have to lay it one the tile upside down to cut the pattern out of the tile correctly. Think about this carefully to do it right. We had our carpet tiles for 19 years in a high traffice area...in the hallway coming into our house from the garage. We're always in and out of thru the garage. They still look like new 19 years later...and we do have some extra pieces to replace if we ruined any but we haven't. I got these commercial grade for less than 1/2 price since they were left over from a big commercial job. I also put the carpet tiles in the basement in my husbands office. Have lasted 15 years and still look like new. Both are darker colors so dirt doesn't show. Have never had to clean or wash them....I just vacuum them often. But if I needed to wash or clean them I'd take them outside and brush some light soapy water on them then hose them down and stand them up to dry out well before putting them back. If you're going to use carpet tiles get commercial quality though...they are much heavier and wear better. I love them. We also have carpeting in our living room and dining room and bedrooms. Those I need professionally cleaned periodically. And of course if it's wall to wall carpet it needs to be installed by the company you're buying the carpet from...you can't do it youself. Good luck with your decision.
Q:I have just this cheap low shag carpet in my boys room I want to put down some wood planks. I don't understand why I would have to remove the carpet, it's so low it's not plush. Not quite as bad as commercial office carpet but pretty close to it. Can't I simply install the fllor over it, what's going to happen if I do?
it would not be a good idea. we do not understand how large of an section you're masking yet pull out the carpet and placed down which ever foam pad ( with vapor barrier) the producer is calling for. Do issues the right way the first time and not in any respect worry again. perhaps slightly extra artwork and $ yet well worth it.
Q:It's beige and im thinking of buying a Vacoom cleaning that cleans the carpet do those really work? like a Bissel?
just rent a rug doctor and steam clean the carpet if you don't want to make a big investment. steam cleaners work really good but you usually have to shell out more money for a good one. i've gone through two already and i'm tired of spending money on them!
Q:OK saw an episode of trading spaces a while back and they painted some carpet does anyone know anything about that or staining carpet they did it on real short carpet my carpet is pretty short it is like the carpet they put in apartments point is mine is really bad stained from room mates having pets and my mother when she lived with my having a pet that she never cleaned up after so looking for some ideas any help would be great
Rent a rug cleaner from your local hardware store, first pretreating the worst spots with a spot remover. And see what this does. Cause in any case you don't want to be breathing the stuff left in the carpet. If you own the place, I'd recommend pulling it up (in a corner or doorway), and seeing what is underneath. Or make a canvas painted rug to go over the area, buy a large canvas (dropcloth or the like) give it a basecoat, then your design and then a few coats of poly. Would be easier to clean up, and not as expensive if you decide to toss it.
Q:Im having trouble finding a rug that I like for my living room, so I was thinking of finding a large carpet remnant to use in the space instead. Does anyone have any tips for finishing the edges of the carpet to prevent frays and little carpet fuzzies taking over my living room?
Almost any carpet store will either have on site or access to a rug binding service. When I had my store , we had the color choices of the binding and we then sent the carpet remnant out to a place that did just that, bind the edges to stop it from fraying. Ours were sent out on fridays and returned on the next friday. Just check with your local mom and pop carpet store. Most all places charge by the linear foot to bind or serge a rug. Berbers generally ran more to do this. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar. GL
Q:I have a bissel carpet shampooer. I use that wit hot water and the bissel cleaning solution... Which is okay working.. But I need to DEEP clean my carpets. Whats the best cleaning solutions I can use in my shampooer or pour directly on the stains? The stains are mostly pet stains (no odor) and the stairs get bad because of all the foot traffic. Any diy home remedies or anything really, thanks!
Windex okorder .
Q:bought a hookah to celebrate turning 19, and my cat knocked over the hookah while we were smoking. Lets just say there is a nickle sized burn in the carpet. Is there ANYTHING I can do? My bf is being a jerk and told me I need to sell my hookah now since it burned the carpet (he doesn't want it in the house anymore), and I'm extremely irritated because it is mine. I am so glad I wasted money on the thing that I am now not allowed to use.-It is not illegal. I smoke legal shisha out of it.-we are renting the house from his parents, and are looking for the least damaging way to cover or fix it. I have no problem explaining this to his parents, but would like to fix it if possible.
I had a burnt hollow in m carpet and this what I did to repair it. STEP a million: decrease or sand away the blistered ends of the carpet fibers. decrease fibers will in basic terms mixture in in the event that they're basically extremely shorter than the encompassing carpet. STEP 2: decrease some carpet fibers from an no longer substantive component of carpet someplace else in the room or from an same carpet remnant and fasten them to the decrease fibers employing relatives glue, if the relax fibers are especially shorter than the encompassing carpet
Q:What size rug should I get?
That depends on what else you have in there and how much of the tile flooring you want to cover. If you want to completely cover the room with the rug, get a 16x16. If you want to see some of the tile, get something more like a 14x14 to 12x12 (depending on whether you want a 1-foot tile border or 2-foot). But, let's say you have a basic set-up with a sofa against one wall and a coffee table in front of it, and an entertainment center against the opposite wall. And, you want the rug for accent, not necessarily to cover up the tile. The area rug would start just about at the front edge of the sofa, maybe a few inches away from it. It sould be centered side to side with the sofa, and come out far enough to extend a couple feet beyond the coffee table. In this case, you would be looking at somewhere between a 5x8 to a 6x9 area rug, with the coffee table pretty much centered over the rug. These are pretty standard sizes, because that's generally how people use them as an accent.
Q:My fiance and I are moving into our brand new house this week. The home is brand new but has been sitting empty for nearly a year. My question is with the brand new carpeting, I know I should at least vacuum to remove the loose/excess fibers in the carpet, but I'm also debating renting a basic carpet cleaner from Home Depot. Would that be overkill or should it be done?
bran new carpet comes with a preventer on it, it shoul not be deep cleaned for at least 2 years of use, doing so will remove the stain preventer, if its a decent carpet, check with the builder or the carpet installer before doing anything, there might also be a warranty on it that could be voided if you do that.
