- Q: I recently re-wired my house with 4 wire telephone wire. They all meet in the attic. How do I wire them together and is there some kind of junction plate I can use? Additionally, I did also wire my house with Cat6 wire, but would like to keep it strictly for Internet.
- (links just for reference, from search engine results)
- Q: does it matter what gauge speaker wire to use when hooking up a powered subwoofer?
- A Powered subwoofer does not use speaker wire - it usually uses a RCA cable. EDIT: Ok - some older subwoofers only have speaker inputs and speaker outputs. You run speaker wire from the Left/Right speaker outputs to the sub, it strips off the sounds it wants to produce, and it passes the other sounds onto the other speakers. I suggest some good oxygen free 12 ga wire. There is a roll off effect with higher frequency sounds and long runs of speaker wire. It usually does not matter for a Home Theater system, but you can hear it with a high-end music system. Thicker wire reduces the effect. Since with a sub you would be running wires to the sub, then back to the L/R speakers, you could be using 15-30 ft of wire. Get a spool of good 12 ga from a speaker building site or get some of the Carol 12 speaker wire from Home Depot.
- Q: I have a 2002 chevy trailblazer lt and i was trying to see if anyone knows what color is what for the radio harness i want to straight wire my aftermarket cd player in because the harness is 100 dollars to buy. if anyone can tell me which wire goes to where by color or know of a good diagram i would appreciate it.
- You can get the harness at WalMart or Best Buy. It connects to the aftermarket radio and then just plugs right in to the vehicles harness.....unless you already hacked it off. The thing only cost about $15.00 and makes the installation process a breeze.
- Q: I have a set of two rotating beacon lights on my truck. I would like to wire these directly to the vehicle with an on/off switch. I picked up a two prong toggle switch from autozone, as well as some wire. I'm not sure how I need to do the wiring. I read somewhere about running wire from the fuse box? And how about grounding?

- Q: How can it be possible to create a high voltage and have a small gauge wire? Example: 3gj or 3000mw in a small wire (just an example)
- Wire six does not care about voltage, it cares about current. Every wire has a speific Fusing current when it melts or in a coil it burns up the insulation and shorts out.
- Q: Hi,I'm trying to install a ceiling light with a 3 wire configuration (white, black, ground) into a wire configuration of 4 wires (white, red, black, ground). This is configured for two on/off switches. So far, I have white to white, black to black, and ground to ground with the red capped off. This works with one switch perfectly, however when I hit the other switch, the circuit breaker blows. Please help, and thank you!
- A circuit consists of two conductors not counting the green/bare, but can have more than two. Also a circuit can branch off and energize other things. Thus you have branch circuits. The ceiling box fan probably is a branch circuit consisting of two or three maybe four conductors i.e., black, red, white and green/bare. A ceiling fan will pull a load/current of usually 2 amps but can be a lot more. A 60watt incandescent light bulb pulls 1/6 of an amp, or 4 60watt bulbs is around 2amps. By and far the amount is very low considering most general lighting circuits can handle up to 20amps without any problems.
- Q: i have two 12 gauge wires running from my battery to my sub amplifier, does this effectivly mean i have 6 gauges. each wire has a 15 amp fuse so does that also mean i have a 30 amp fuse?
- Id say run 3 strands minimal because sometime it says its a certain gauge but there is not much wire inside, and to add the the 2X 12gauge = 9 gauge use 3 strands.. better chance of working right.
- Q: I have two alpine 1242d. I need to wire them parallel parallel. Ive seen many pictures on how to do it but im still a little confused. Okay first off do i need any special type of wiring or will my 4awg wire work. Because it shows multiple wire connections where the wires combine. The positive connect from an existing wire already running to the amp. If anyone understand what i mean can you explain it to me. Thank you much appreciated!
- This is series parallel this diagram is a bit easier to read they didnt have one for par/par your wiring fine but 4 awg is a big huge for speaker wire for so i doubt it will work for wiring 2 dual voice coil subs where the wires combine just twist the copper together and put it in the speaker terminal if you feel like you just cant completely understand it take it to your local car audio shop or a best buy wherever they install car audio equipment im sure thye wont mind helping you out its hard to explain in writing
- Q: My home is wired for the thermostats with two wires (red and white). I have acquired a new thermostat that requires a Red, White, and Common wire. Using the white wire in that position will power the unit up but it won't trigger the heat. Is there something that can be put in line that will allow this thermostat to work without rewiring the house?
- T-stat wires are usually left loose in the wall, no staples, so you can easily replace it by pulling a new wire through with the old one. First try to get an idea of where the wire goes. Get an estimate of total length and go to home depot and purchase 18-3 t-stat wire. They sell it in 25 feet, 50 feet, 100 feet, 500 feet, or by the foot. Compare prices and get enough to make a continuous run. Older 2 wire Tstats used a mercury or spring switch to simply connect the two wires together (24v + and sl return). Your new Tstat needs a common because it is being powered by the same feed that activates the unit. (So you have 24+ 24- and sl return) When you attach your new wire to your old wire be sure to actually strip the outer coating of about 4 inches or so and fold the wires around each other to get a good strong bond, and then tape it tight to keep it as small diameter as possible.
- Q: we need to know if we don't connect the red wire and just cap it off.
- Get a volt meter and test between the white wire (place probe on white wire) and the red and black wire and see if you have power to either or both if both just chose either black or red and cap the other off, or see if one of the colors is attached to a switch, that should connect to a light kit if you have one, the connection should be between the white and one of the colors the green is the ground and gets attached to the ground wire on the fan.
