- Q:Which are more secure, wired or wireless networks? Explain.
- Wired networks are always more secure because they're not advertising themselves to the world; e.g. you need to have physical access to connect to a wired network. Wireless networks can be secure; but the fact of the matter is they're advertised to any passer-by and are susceptible to having their keys cracked.
- Q:I want to install a single-pole dimmer switch for a series of 4 pot lights in the same box (double gang) as a kill switch for a receptical already installed. There is a 14-3 wire (b/w/r/g) brigning power into the box from the main, and 14-2 wiring for the dimmer and 14-2 wire for the kill switch. How do I wire this? The single pole dimmer has a ground and two black wires. The switch to kill the receptical has only two brass screws on one side.
- Before you go cutting any wires, please verify what each is to/for. I am concerned that the 14-3 is not the incoming from the panel. There is a chance for 2 other possibilities: 1) The power is fed from the light fixture (using the 14-3). If this is the case, the black will be the constant hot and the red will be the switched power returning to the fixture. 2) The 14-3 is actually the wire to the receptacle for a half-hot (half switched receptacle). If I am wrong, then so be it. If I am correct it will totally change how this gets connected. If you have already cut that red wire, you'll be regretting it.
- Q:need to know how to properly wire this amp in a truck
- wow I have never heard of this amp until u mentioned it. the ratings seem good. ur best option would be to call sonic electronics have them send you a manual on how to wire this amp. they sell this amp. I mean u ask how to properly wire it. wire it to get power ? or to the woofers ? red wire + goes to your battery. black wire - goes to your ground (not your battery) to the frame of ur vehicle. then u need a blue wire, your remote this wire goes to ur stereo's remote wire it should be the same color or it will be marked. but if u do not know how to hook up an amplifier u should go to a professional shop due to the fact if u improperly hook ur amp up YOU CAN START A FIRE IN YOUR CAR.
- Q:i have a 300x1 @ 4ohm and 600x1 @ 2ohms, i wanna hook it up at 2 ohms what gauge wiring kit should i get?
- I am pushing about 1000 watts through my wires...I use the lowest gauge (biggest wire) i could find, which was 2 gauge. Before, i used 8 gauge power/ground wire and 14 gauge speaker wire. I re-wired my truck with 2 gauge power/ground wire and 8 gauge speaker wire.... MUCH more punch and substantially louder playing levels. I lost lots of power through my previous wiring. Lots of ppl argue with the wire size, but i say go lowest gauge possible. I mean, its makes sense.....the bigger the wire, the easier the electrons can flow through.
- Q:You have a 3 foot wide wire, vs a .3 inch wire. They are equal length. There is 3 volts going through each wire, to power your 1 volt LED. So, would the 3 foot wide wire have less resistance ? I don't even think it would work.
- When I started out, I found that the water analogy was helpful. Water flow (through a pipe) represents the electrons flowing (= current). The pipe represents the wire. It's hard to push a high flowrate of water through a small pipe (say like a drinking straw), but easy through a large-diameter pipe. The small pipe shows high resistance to flow, the large pipe shows little resistance to flow. Electrical current works the similarly, for electrons flowing through the wire. In electrical circuits, voltage corresponds to pressure. Are you aware that to push 1A through a wire of resistance 1 ohm requires a voltage drop across the wire of 1V? And that if you increase that voltage to 2V (from 1V), twice the current will flow (=2A), even though the resistance stays the same? If you had two of those wires (connected in parallel), you could push 1A through each wire by applying 1V across each wire. That would total 2A without having to increase the voltage. Well, that essentially is what a larger-diameter wire is, it's the equivalent of taking two (or more) smaller wires and melding their cross sections together into that of a single wire. But since it now takes only 1V to push 2A instead of 2V, it appears that the resistance is half as much, as in 0.5ohms, when using both wires. From that you can conclude that larger-diameter wires have lower resistance. Hope that helps. Later you will discover that the water analogy doesn't match perfectly well since its pressure relationship is highly non-linear, whereas the electrical relationship tends to be highly linear. Also, we generally don't push water back-and-forth in pipes the way some electrical circuits use alternating current. That's a heads-up that the water analogy will fail to explain some of the electrical things you'll run into.
- Q:01 F350 that did not come factory with cab lights.Bought the recon cab lights that come with its own harness. No plugs on the ends, just plain wires on the end. Where does the green wire splice in to behind the passenger kick panel?
- if a 2 wire loom, black is ground and green would be park lamps. get a test light, ground one end and stab wires until you find the live wire that lites the test lite. park lamp switch must be on when testing. head lamp switch 1 click out.
- Q:for a kids robot kitabout a 4 inch black wire--other side is red...the tip broke off--i tried to strip it---but the rest of the wire is copper colored and thinner--the end had a harder silver tipwhat is a wire like this called--would radio shack have it--i can't seem to find it on their website
- It okorder /... What you now have is stranded wire that has been tinned on one end. A tinned wire is one that has been soldered to keep the strands together and make for a stronger connection. If the wire must be flexible then replace with stranded wire. Solid wire will be easier for you to work with but not will not work as well if the wire moves a lot. Additional Yes you could solder the wires if there is enough to hook to. The size wire I think you are talking about can be soldered with about any small soldering iron and resin core solder. You might even slip a piece of heat shrink tubing over the wire before you solder the wire. After making the connection you can slide the heat shrink tubing in place, heat the tube to insulate the connection.
- Q:i have a 3mm diameter wire that has only a single thick conductor and it's really really hard?how do i know if it is a magnetic wire or not?are thick magnetic wires hard or soft to be wrapped?are there other types of wire that have a single conductor thick conductor?note: single thick conductorgt;gt; i mean they are not thin parallel collected wires like usual

- Q:When you buy new earbuds/headphones there are usually two wires connected by a thin piece of rubber. Is it ok to split the two wires that are joined together when you buy them? Im wondering because i need the extra length.
- Its possable on some headphone wire to do that; on others the jacket is too thin and you run the risk of exposing bare wire , if you do expose bare wire I suppose you could cover it with electrical tape....
- Q:On a 1985 Dodge D-250 there are two wires coming off of the starter the thicker off the two goes two the starter the smaller one has been cut up by the battery. I was told the truck was running last week and all they were doing to start it was touching it to the positive post with the other wire but when I do this the starter just clicks. I pulled the starter and had it tested and was told its good and I have power to the cab I.e. lights and all so were does this wire go and what do I need to do to start this thing
- Sounds like it may have a temporarily weak battery. Hook it up to a charger overnight or get a jump off someone. If manual transmission, you could try a push start and just let the alternator charge the battery while you drive around.
