- Q: A bottle of gorilla glue spilt on the carpet (the kind that dries white) I can't get it off without tearing the carpet up...and I live in an apartment. Do I have to rip the carpet out or is there a way of getting it off. If I have to rip the carpet out how do I replace that patch?
- Unfortunately Gorilla Glue is a polymer and bonds with nylon carpet fibers. You'll have to cut out a patch of the carpet and replace it. Good luck finding a piece to match unless you take a piece from a closet. If you do that cut the damaged piece out first and lay ti over the replacement piece and CAREFULLY cut an identical patch. Tape in and glue the patch with carpet tape and adhesive. Make sure the pile and pattern match. Good luck.

- I have one I think is very similar to yours (from Crate and Barrel?). It's a big black rug that almost looks shaggy, only it has no rubber backing, and it sits under the coffee table. I have several with rubber backings too, but the weave on them is very fine. When they need cleaning, I just take them outside, set them on the deck and hose them off with the power sprayer. It's kind of gross how much dirt comes out of a rug. After I've given them a good bath, I throw them up over the deck railing and let them air dry. It doesn't seem to hurt them, and it's the only way I have ever figured out to clean rugs. I made the horrible mistake of putting a rubber backed bath mat in the washer/dryer once. The washer creased the rubber backing really bad, and the dryer made the corners curl under and melted some of the rubber. I had to toss a perfectly good bathmat out, and I will never make the same mistake. Now the non-backed rug that sits under my parrots cage goes in the industrial washer at the laundromat and air dries. It's pretty beat up from that, and inhale had to patch it, but it also stained and gross from having a bird on top of it flinging food, so I don't really care, it isn't decorative. So ya, no washer/dryer, but the hose seems very effective.

- Go to a corner and simply pull up the carpet. It is probably attached by a tack strip.....a strip of wood with slanting nails to hold the carpet. Remove all of the carpeting and then all of the padding underneath. A dust mask is a good idea while doing this. If you intend to send the carpet out with the trash, cut strips no larger than 4 feet and roll the strips up into tight tubes and tie with string. Last, remove the tack strip. The tack strip has been nailed down. A small nail every 6 inches or so. Remove the strip carefully. If you need to pry, use a piece of the padding or carpet under your pry bar so as not to dent the flooring. You will have some nail holes in the flooring from the tack strip, but this is close to the wall and so it won't be too noticeable. Know that you probably have water damage on the flooring from your leak and you may need to have the floors refinished. Good luck!
