Q: It is known that it takes an hour to pump water, and also to know the head. How does the pump power need to be calculated? What's the formula?: Motor Power (kw) =0.163*Q*H*K/60/EOf which: Q is the flow, unit m^3/hH is the lift, unit ME is the efficiency value of the pumpK is the safety factor, generally 1.1.

Q: One month ago, mechanics replaced water pump for my car, 04 dodge stratus, 100000 miles. When I went to get the car, there was big noise coming out from engine. The mechanics told me it was because of sediment in auto oil system and he show me some sediment he took out. I know little about car so I thought he was right. But now the noise changed and engine light came on. I went to firestone to check it. The report said timing jump and cranked. The second day the engine died totally. And I went to another two mechanics. They said the previous one who replaced the water pump did something wrong to timing chain. But that mechanics didn't admit it. What can I do?: You're on thin ice with this, unless you had the timing belt replaced before 90,000 miles. That big noise was the pistons hitting the valves after the timing belt slipped, or more likely, broke from being worn out. When the engine's water pump is driven by the timing belt, the belt must be slacked to get the pump off, then tightened back up after the new pump installation. That old belt couldn't hold up under the tension. It's just bad luck for the mechanic he didn't think to question the age of the timing belt and insist that it be replaced. Of course that would cost a bit more. It will be an uphill battle. You might as well find a used engine if you want this car back on the road. Good luck to you.

Q: what is a submersible well pump?: It is exactly what it sounds like-a water pump that you put in your well under water. Q: The water pump doesn't seem to be leaking but I do have a leak under the engine in a place I can't get to. The water doesn't seem to be getting to the upper hoses of the engine. I do hear a odd sound like lose rocker arms but its hard to tell where its coming from.This engine is to big for this boat there is no room to work on it except to pull the engine. I feel your pain! Your recirculating pump and your raw water pump are two separate systems. If your upper hoses are running dry I would check the raw water pump first. The rocker noise would concern me more. To separate the noise, run the engine on a garden hose attached to the incoming line inside the boat from the raw water pump when the lower unit is removed for the raw water pump job. That will separate the possible sources for the noise. If the noise followed the lower, check u-joints, gimbal bearing, gear housing. If it is still there, check the oil for water, and the recirculating pump, and valve lifters.(who knows, it might actually be a lifter.)

Q: Why such a difference in price. Is the GM worth 4 times the NAPA brand. Both are new for a 2003 Buick ParkAve Ultra with 95k miles. 1st time we're replacing the water pump.: It depends on which pump you are getting from napa the reman pump or the new pump also that is not the only thing that you will need! you will also need the plastic elbows that go from the water pump to the alternator bracket (as soon as they are touched they will break into a million pieces) there are 2 elbows in the Dorman/help bubble pack both will be needed (they aren't very expensive though) And yes the 4 hours is fine (my database calls for almost 5 hours (4.8) that's because it's an Ultra (supercharger is an interference when accessing the pump) So continue with what you are doing just be sure to get the NEW pump from NAPA

Does it do anything else? does it act like a filter? does it provide aeration or oxygen to the pond?: your koi pond should be in direct sunlight not in a shaded area. Also, just a water pump is used for fountains and waterfalls. this allows dissolved oxygen to enter the water since Koi and goldfish needs lots. Usually a pump is attached to a filter when it comes to ponds, however there are pumps and filters that are stand alone. If you have a large pond, I would suggest a biofilter box with a pump. usually they will have attachments for additions of fountains and waterfall hoses. A stand alone pump will not FILTER the water it will just add dissolved oxygen

Q: I have a small leak in my water pump and my check engine light is on throwing a P0303 code and it appears the two might be related.: As far as I know Bars stop leak will not work on a moving part like the seal on a water pump. This is an opportunity to have fresh anti freeze in your car. Get the water pump replaced and have the system drained and filled with fresh. Use a pre-mix or dilute regular antifreeze with distilled water. Many places have hard water which clogs radiators and heater cores. Take care that the system is bled of any air when refilled.. Anti freeze contains water pump lubricant for the seal. If it had been changed last year you may not have this expense now.

Q: If you use a water pump to move water through a circular trench, essentially making a little river, and then place some kind of turbine or water wheel or something to generate electricity from the moving water, couldn't you use the electricity generated by the turbine to power the pump, thus requiring no outside power?: Perpetual Water Pump
