- Q:We have a fabric-type sofa. We have 2 dogs. One sleeps on there as much as she can!!! She's a Choc. Lab so a larger dog. She gets the sofa smelling!I plan on taking a carpet cleaner to it to get it clean.How can I protect it from smells? I was thinking of getting a plastic like material and laying it on the seat area then covering that with like a soft fabric, like what they use for pet beds. I'd remove it as guest come.How else can I protect it? What do you do?Oh and keeping dog off the sofa is a no-no. we have 2 sofas and the 'good one' is the one i bought before our marriage. My husband wants the dog to have something other then her beds to lay on so refuses to keep her off. BLOCKING sofa is NOT something we will do.We might buy a new sofa in a year or 2, but for right now I need that sofa to be CLEAN!!!!!!! Its so smelly! (Neat freak here! :) )
- Aw! Pets really are part of the family :) My cat sits next to me on the couch while I type every day. I have LOTS of fur to clean up :) Use blankets. It can still look kind of decorative and protect the sofa. As for the smell, Take an old sock, fill it with baking soda, and hide it between the couch cushions. Febreze often. Good Luck!

- Hire a professional upholstery cleaner. They don't' cost that much, and you'll be glad you hired a pro. If you attempt to clean the sofa yourself, you'll end up with splotches. Plus, you won't be able to extract the water properly, and the sofa will end up smelling like mildew. Hire a professional. Good luck. -

- You will NEVER match the leather, so don't even consider that remedy. However, HM is a very good quality sofa, so I would highly consider having the seat back cushions reupholstered in a rich tapestry fabric. The look is very fashionable the cost will be RELATIVELY minimal. Call the best upholsterer you can afford cause this will be a worthwhile investment.

- I suggest a darker hue from the colour of the floor, as the colours will still coordinate and not detract from your theme. The white sofa would contrast really well, so a deep red, but without seeing a photo, it's a little difficult.

- Do you have a glass sliding door. I had the same problem and I live on the third floor. My buddies and I made a homemade pulley system with alot of rope and we actually took it in from the glass sliding door (wider) deck. Was quite a sight actually. My only other suggestions: Obviously unscrew the legs (I'm sure you've done that). Also: does your home have an outside entrance to the basement and then you could bring it up from there? Good luck

- Q:So 2 weeks ago tomorrow I got a now almost 12 week old Springador. He's lovely and a great addition to the family - but I can't stop worrying about his legs as he usually jumps off the sofa randomly. Most of the time, we'll be able to tell when he's going to jump and lift him down but I can't help but worry that he's really going to hurt himself. Should I stop him coming on the sofa completely, or is it actually going to hurt him?
- I am not sure what a springador is....a size and weight and body type profile would be more helpful. Made up breeds can look like one or the other. That said, do you want a dog that is going to be on the furniture when he grows up and gets however large his type of mutt (he is a mutt, no matter what name you make up to call him) will get? Some people think its cute when the puppy is on the bed, but then when the puppy grows up to be an 80lb dog jumping on your bed it is no longer cute. So decide if you want him on the furniture for the rest of his life. For ME personally I do not mind small dogs (under 10 lbs) on the furniture, but I would not want a large dog on my furniture, it gets hard to keep clean, drool, hair, smell, and some dogs like to chew furniture, but that is all personal preference! Be careful with him jumping off your sofa, I also have no idea how high your sofa is, if he is landing on hard tile or a soft rug, all these things make a difference on the danger level! In all likelihood he is not going to hurt himself, but keep in mind that he will think I can jump off anything I can get on and that IS dangerous! I have see people's dogs jump off REALLY high things and injure themselves. Make sure he also understands that just because he can jump that high it does not mean it is ok for him to go anywhere he can jump. My Papillion can jump onto my kitchen table if she wants to - but she does not because she knows that is a no-no so think about those types of things as well when training your new dog. Good luck!
