- Q: My 19 year old step son ate a greasy breakfast, sitting on my fine designer sofa. He knows NOT to eat any thing sitting on the sofa, and that he is to sit at the table, or bar, when eating. ( His dad and I were out of town.) His plate spilled on to the sofa, and he smeared the food on it, trying to clean it up. The sofa is now stained. We have tried cleaning it with stain remover and upholstery cleaner. The area around the stain has lightened up and the stain remains. So, my designer sofa, that I purchased before I married the teen's dad, is damaged.It will be very expensive to replace the damaged designer sofa. I told my husband I think the teen should pay for some of the damage. What is your opinion? Do you think the teen should pay anything?
