I kept a NF unclipped throughout her life and always let her coat get reasonably thick before rugging her up for the rest of the winter. However, she was only ever in light work and did not sweat much. Cold is rarely a problem, only rain AND cold will bother her, so she will not need a very thick rug. I would say 9 or 12 rating is more than enough. I'm jealous - you're going to have SO MUCH FUN! :D

- A professional carpet cleaner is your best bet. However, you say this is out of the question. Realize that any home remedy is risky. Having said this, you can try to clean this rug yourself, but the results are not guaranteed. You can remove red wine with white wine. Pour white wine onto the red wine stains. Let that sit for about 20 minutes. Then wash the rug in your machine using the cold water setting and Woolite. I would not add fabric softener. After washing, hang to air dry. Do not machine dry. There is a chance machine washing will ruin your rug, but cold water machine-washing is as close as hand-washing as possible. If you let the rug air dry, there is a good chance it will survive. Honestly, if I had an expensive cashmere rug that was stained, I would take it a professional. The choice is yours. Good luck. -

Sand has to be replaced every time you clean the tank. When the gecko poops the bacteria in the poop will spread around the tank from the crickets stepping on it, the gecko stepping on it, etc.. Sand also pretty expensive. Carpet / rugs also have their problems. The geckos nails can be caught in the fibers and be pulled out. Teeth can get stuck in the carpet. You also might look into slate tiles or any other unglazed tiles. They work great and you don;t have to worry about impaction or the nails getting pulled out.
- Q: Alright.. so i need to kill fleas that MAY be in my carpet. I havn't seen any hop on me but my kitten has got fleas. I have a 12 month old son also.. that crawls on the carpet and puts anything in sight in his mouth, including his hands that obviously touch the carpet.
