- Q: I have two toddlers, and needless to say my carpets get a little dirty very easily. Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaning machine that actually gets the job done. I had one about 2 years ago ( can't remember the brand ), and it sucked. It didn't work, and it left my carpets soaking wet. - It'd help to know what exactly is in your carpet - do the hairs bother you or has it been peed on - or worse!? For hair, the best thing I've ever tried is scraping carpet with a rubber-soled shoe. Once you've done a bit the hair all clumps together and can be picked off by hand - not as much hassle as it sounds! For pee you'll have to wash it, which is a hassle without a proper wet vac. First check if any friends or family have one you can borrow, or if there are any companies nearby which will hire one out to you. If not, try using something like Shake 'n' Vac, which is a powder that you sprinkle on the carpet and then hoover off with a conventional vaccum cleaner. If you're still really desperate then you'll have to get a big bucket of warm soapy water, scrub it in with a big scrubbing brush, put a dry towel on it and stomp around on it to pull as much of the water back out of it as you can, then wait a very long time for it to dry out again completely. This is a massive pain in the a*se though, so try the other methods first and maybe stick to just washing any really bad bits with water if you have to!

- Some carpet stains can be removed with a paste of 2 tablespoons white distilled vinegar and 1/4 cup salt or baking soda. Rub into the carpet stain and let dry. Vacuum up the residue the next day. (Always test on an out-of-sight part of the carpet first).
- Q: so funny story haha. i was at softball practice last night at an indoor facility. The ground is made of an astroturf- carpet type material. the drill was to practice sliding on a piece of cardboard. i however slid a bit too early and skinned my thigh on the carpet/astroturf stuff.Now i have a giant burn thing about the size of my fist on my right thigh. - Firstly i dont know how they can justify selling them to you, they sound tight. A carpet has a five year life span,(this is a general guideline) so i would find out how long they have been in there, and they cannot charge you for this time while they have been in there as you were not occupying the property, and they cannot expect you to pay the same amount as it would for you to recarpet the whole property. say they have been in thier three years, this would mean the carpets have a two year life left. i suggest going to a carpet shop with the measurements and getting a quote and then divide that by five, and if they have been in there 3 years offer them 2/5ths of the price the carpet shop quote you. the reason i am saying do it like this is because i work in a letting/estate agents, and this is how we resolve issues with security deposits if the landlord wants to claim for carpet damages. - Or... if it's synthetic, take it out onto the driveway hose it down, put some soap on it and brush it in lightly, then rinse it with the hose. My family used to put an old shower curtain down under the high chair. Works wonders. Good luck.

- Find a really good nail polish remover and use that. If that doesn't work then use rubbing alcohol, and if that still doesn't get the stain out, then find a carpet cleaner that removes harsh stains. Good luck!
