Q: i have had a shag rug for more than a year and the area my kids love to sit it is all smooshed down.....even when i vaccuum...The area under my coffe table is like it used to be when i vaccuum. how can i make it pop back up like it used to?: i have heard of wetting the rug and using a wide toothed comb with rounded ends, you can really detail it that way.

Q: Will skateboarding on carpet ( or maybe anyhting) with just the skateboard deck ,( no wheels, trucks), improve the actual tricks on the real thing? Thanks.: First off, the I feel carpet boarding has some merit, even without trucks and wheels. It will definitely help you get the feel for having a board under your feet. It's also very helpful when trying to learn spin tricks (like shuvits and big spins). Having no wheels, you wont have the same friction you would on the street (no wheels to rub against the concrete), but you will be able to learn what it is you need to do to spin the board (and build some confidence after landing on it). Carpet-boarding wont help much with pop-type tricks (ie ollies, kickflips, etc). Sure some of us can do those tricks on decks on the carpet, but it's definitely _nothing like doing it with trucks and wheels (it's actually a lot harder on carpet). Carpet also wont help a whole lot with your balance on the street, even with wheels. With just a deck, you'll be sliding all over the place. With trucks and wheels, the carpet effectively stops your wheels from sliding out from under you, and hence, doesnt require your to keep your weight distributed the same way as you would on concrete.

Q: we live in a rented apartment, we have carpet installed but we would prefer hard wood so much better. is there a way, inexpensive much preferred, to have hard wood over the carpet without damaging the carpet? hope to hear some interesting suggestions, thanks!!: You can't put hardwood over carpet. The softness of the carpet would let the hard floor flex and would eventually come apart, break or crack.

Are there steps we can take to prevent mildew from setting in?: Another tip: Allow your carpet to dry flat... dont roll it up or anything... maybe get a hook hanger and hang it by your dryer... so the heat can dry it a bit faster! :) thats all i got! good luck! :)

I used to sell carpet. You want to make sure you have a good installer as well. Sometimes if it's not stretched enough it will relax and develope ripples........if this happens, don't be afraid to call the installer back to restretch it. Also vacuum it every other day or so with a good vacuum. The info I gave you will help your new carpet last you a lot longer.

Q: My cat (Happy) pees all over this 1 rug we have. Happy is almost 13! And not fixed. Her mother also peed, on the 1 rug we have. Why is Happy doing it? How do it stop her?: She pees on it because it smells to her like somewhere she should pee (ie, she can smell the pee in it), plus, since she's not fixed, she may be marking territory or letting the boys know by pheremones in pee that she's matable. You won't stop her without pulling up the rug, because if she's been doing it a while (and her mother before her) then the urine has soaked thru to the floor beneath, and you'll have to fix that too. Hope it's not hardwood, because it will be ruined. Cat pee takes the varnish right off and destroys the wood underneath. Good luck.

Q: The carpet in my bedroom is matted down where I walk constantly [like the doorway area]. Is there anything I can do to make the fibers nice again? Standing straight up like they new again?: When I move furniture and the carpet is pressed down where the feet used to be, I put an ice cube in each divot, and by the next day the divots are gone. I don't know if this would help your problem, but it's worth a try. Another idea is to call a carpet cleaning company to see what they can do. I know after they clean the carpet, sometimes they comb or rake it, which left ours looking really fluffy.

Q: Well we kind of had a little mis hap and we accidently got a burning piece of paper on the ground. The paper was burning and went onto the carpet and we cleaned all the ash up and now there is a dirty ashy looking stain on the carpet. How do you get rid of it? Thank you.: if the carpet isn't burnt use a vacuum cleaner. the stuff should be dry and you might need to go over it with the cylinder part. Failing that, get a rug doctor, got the stains from my bong water out of my parents white carpet once saved me getting murdered, then reincarnated by them so they could murder me again!
