Q: I have a cream couch with thin stripes color stripes are tan, beige Brown... Would this rug go good infront of it?! Q: Need to figure out what our max budget needs to be for new carpet for about 900 sf.: I've looked into this myself for my house. Check out Home Depot or Lowes, both have installation services. The maximum I saw there was around $4 a square foot installed. It really depends on the type and quality of the carpet. I was looking at some nice carpets that were around $3 a square foot installed. I want to buy a steamer, but have been warned that most have the usual problem of leaving too much residue that makes carpets easier to soil.: I've heard that it's NOT the carpet steamer that's leaving the residue it's using too much or not the right kind of shampoo... Most people think MORE is BETTER but, that's NOT the case with carpet steamers... What happens is all the soap doesn't get picked up and eventually it dries and settles into the carpet where it attracts even more dirt particles.. Q: Okay, so that's 2 questions in one. Don't hold it against me. Instead, please suggest a cleaner (or a home-made recipe/solution) for cleaning and shining stainless steel small appliances (coffee maker, panini maker, barmen's toolset, and some others) and for how to get set-in stains out of a small oriental rug. Don't know the composition of the stains; they've been there for awhile. They are on a white-ish background. Thanks!: For the stainless steel appliances, I like to use Cerama Bryte- they make several stainless steel cleaners. When I am out, I use vinegar.

Q: The floor is pretty beat up in some of the rooms and between having a baby and preparing for a deployment I don't know if we're going to be able to fix it properly in the near future so I want to prevent further damage with rugs and runners.Anyway, I want to put runners and rugs down in the heavy traffic areas. Couple of questions:Do you know of a good store/website that has matching rugs and runners for reasonable prices?Also, we plan to put the runners on stairs ourselves, which are all wood also (they are straight and all the stairs are uniform in size so it shouldn't be a problem ... it's a three-story-house) but we were wondering if we can just buy a runners to do this or do we have to buy special runners specifically made for staircases? It was supposed to be a quick-fix but it turned out so well, that here we are 7 years later and it still looks great. If you select a runner with a boarder, begin at the top of the steps. Once you work your way down the steps, you may have to cut off the edge of the rug (boarder) and then some, so the cut lands at the end of a riser above a stair tread. If you want the boarder to show at the bottom of the steps, begin the second runner at the bottom of the steps and work up to the other runner until they meet in the riser crease. This will look like it is all one custom piece with a boarder all around the edges. Good luck. To protect your floors from further damage until you can get around to either refinishing the floors or installing wall to wall carpeting, I would certainly use rug pads under any runners or throw rugs.
