Q: There's a nice hole in the carpet that's pretty deep. How do you fix it?
cover it with a little carpet or put some furniture over it
Q: How do I get my rug cleaned?
Either rent a carpet shampooer or have it professionally done.
Q: I have a large family room - 25 x 16 feet. I currently have a 9x12 rug on one side and want to add another on the other side of the room. The rug that works best with my existing rug only comes in 5'8x9 or 8'8x10. The first seems a little small and the second a little big. Can you have two large rugs in one room or does that overpower the room? I would only have about 14 between the two rugs if I went with the larger rug. It seems like it would look like a little landing strip. But I don't want the small one to look like a postage stamp. What to do?
It depends on what you are going to put on it. You could turn the other rug so they won't be so close together.
Q: I had the rug from work about a year ago so its pretty old but every time i go to hoover its got a large amount of white powder under it! i have no idea what it is at first i had the gross idea that it was bits of skin but there is no way that much could accumilate in such a short timewhat is it and can i get rid of it
You said the rug was old. It could be the rug itself degrading, especially the material the fibers are woven into or if it has a latex backing, the latex itself. Also it could be years of dirt hoovering hasn't been able to remove filtering down and out thru the bottom.
Q: Can anyone tell me if it is tacky to use a large carpet remnant as an area rug rather than buying a regular rug? I'm on a pretty tight budget, and I need a LARGE (10x10 ish) rug for our living room. Regular rugs that large are several hundred dollars. What do you think? Any other suggestions?
No. There is nothing tacky about this at all. I have bound and sold hundreds of room sized remnants over the years and 10 x 10 is the most common size. Be careful though. Many remnants of higher quality could cost more than a printed area rug. Binding costs me $1.10 per lineal foot and I sell it for $2.00 per lineal foot. A 10 x 10 bound rug or forty lineal feet will cost $80.00 for the binding, the cost of the remnant (estimate $70) plus sales tax. The retail store you shop at should have a binder they work with. They will send it out and should have it back for you to pick up within a week or so. If not, a few quick calls to some other carpet stores in the area should turn up someone willing to give you the number of a binder or two. If you can lug your rug to the binder yourself, you will save the money a retailer like me will charge for acting as the middleman. On July first, the binder I use is going to start adding fees for pick-up and drop-off service. Ten dollars each trip. I understand, he has to put gas in his van to keep working just like the rest of us and gas keeps going up. I strongly recommend you have your new rug bound because it will help prevent unraveling fibers and give it a professionally finished look. As part of the deal, a good binder will square it up and trim away any unevenness as well.
Q: My dog has peed on my carpet and it stinks a stink I can't get out no matter how hard I try. Someone told me that getting them professionally cleaned will get the smell out. However another person told me that once you get your carpet professionally cleaned they always get dirty easier and faster after that. Does anyone know if this is true?
getting your carpet professionally cleaned doesnt make it prone to more dirt. no no. You should get it done at least once a year professionally anyway.... pro cleaning / steam cleaning / any kind of DEEP cleaning allows allergens etc. to get out of your carpet - so its a good idea to get it done at least once a year! :)
Q: I am having new vinyl flooring installed in the bathroom and I know that rubber or latex backed rugs can stain the floor yellow. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Yep, the vinyly/latex backed rugs can stain but a rug without any backing in the bathroom is a bad accident waiting to happen. You can forgo using a rug at all and just tell your family to put a towel down when they get out of a tub, clean under the rug often with a very dilluted mixture of bleach water or just deal with the stain. The rug will cover it anyway, huh? *grin* Congrats on the new flooring!
Q: I am away from my horses at the moment and i have to call each day to have them rugged. I couldnt get a hold of the lady today and they may not be rugged. its winter here (not snowing here ever) and they have always had doona type rugs on of a night. will they be ok and not get sick?im so worried i feel sick
As long as your horses have a decent hair coat, place to get out of the wind (a wall is fine) and hay to eat they will be just fine. Even if it was snowing they'd be fine-freezing rain is the worst thing for them. Stop worrying-horses have extremely efficient heating systems.
Q: I'd like to know how REAL fur coats, bear skin rugs, etc. are made (by hand not industrial process) as I don't believe its tanning like in leather as it requires the fur to be stripped. I know the animal is killed and harvested, but someone please start after that and tell me as I'm trying to do research for a story I'm working on and I have no experience at this aspect. And if you have an idea of how long they last I'd appreciate it. Also, are they as soft and flexible as it seems or are they harder like leather? Thank you. Also I know its a cruel process and all so please no sarcasm.
Many of us wear them, but we don't actually make them into coats or rugs. They're ALREADY sold in stores ready to wear. My very first fur coat was from a curly lamb suede outside, fur inside.
Q: I've seen stainmaster carpet, and I was wondering which type of carpet resists stains the best. I'm redoing the carpet in a dining room, and my cats continually pee on the carpet in this room, so I need a robust carpet. Thanks!
I really like the carpet with scotchguard on it that seems to work great. Best of Luck.
