Q:I have a new beige carpet that is about 1 year old. I have some stains from a dog. I used Woolite Heavy Traffic and vacuum but it really did not work. The carpet looks darker than the rest of the carpet. What can I use to make the carpet clean again?: try rinsing after cleaning. Use clear water. The soap left a residue so the carpet got dirtier faster.

Q:I am trying to find a practical solution to carpeting my basement with pets and kids in the house. I was looking at carpet tile because I can just replace a worn or stained piece. Has anyone here used carpet tile? What brand did you buy and how did it hold up? Can this be easily installed or do I need a pro? Any tips?: Unless your pets are WELL behaved They will make short work of ripping tiles up and chewing the edges to frazzles. Leaving turned up edges and holes your kids can trip on. If they are unruly, even a one piece carpet is up for grabs. Esp in the corners and at the door, if they want in or out. This applies whether it is Glued down Or stretched in. Good Luck with it! RT

Q:I recently dropped a small spot of bleach on cream colored carpet. Is there any way to dye the carpet back? It is a spot about the size of a quarter.: You can dye the carpet back and that is the only way to fix bleach stains. I am not sure where you can buy carpet dye but it is not that hard. Dilute the dye with water in a spray bottle and spray the bleach spot and absorb with rag. Continue until desired colored is reached. It is not always perfect but works. Or you can call a local carpet cleaning company. They can do it and they charged me about 50 bucks too.

Q:I want to deep clean my carpets but I can't afford to rent a rug doctor or buy a deep cleaning vacuum. What can I do to make my carpets really clean again?: This won't really clean it, but if you sprinkle baking soda over the carpet leave it overnight then vacuum up the next morning the carpet will be deoderized really good.

They are almost always wool and will wear for many years. It depends do you want your rug to last 10-30 years or forever. Hand knotted rugs get passed down from generation to generation. If you like to remodel frequently I would suggest hand-tufted, if you'd like to keep the piece I would suggest hand knotted. Purchase the rug you love. Hand knotted rugs are quite expensive compared to hand-tufted and machine made area rugs. Approximate cost comparison of 5 x 7 area rugs. Machine made area rug $100-$500. Hand- tufted would be $300-$800 Hand-knotted will be $400-$1000 Take care.

Q:I’m moving to Las Cruces, NM in about a week and I need to get my carpets cleaned. Can anyone recommend a good carpet cleaning service? Preferably good carpet cleaners that are can remove difficult spots and stains from light colored carpets.: I've used Las Cruces Carpet Cleaning in the past and in my opinion; they are provide the absolute best service in town. They helped me clean and restore some very dirty carpets in one of our rentals back to brand new. The tenants we had didn't bother to clean the carpet before they left and it had nasty traffic lanes as well as spills everywhere, not to mention pet odors in one of the bedrooms. I really thought we would have to replace all the carpet in the house, but luckily we didn't have to. Give them a call. They saved us a ton of money.
